Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 60 - How'd You Kill It, Exactly? (2/4)

The room was still dark and quiet. Wu Chi stretched, blinked the sleep from his eyes, and stumbled outside. After a quick wash, he felt marginally more human. He glanced around. The beautiful and formidable Great Qin Vanguards were already on patrol atop the new stone wall. Even with only ten of them, they were never slackers.
Right. I can recruit more of them now. A Level 5 barracks has a fifty-troop cap.
He started walking towards the [Vanguard of Qin] barracks, but he didn't get far. His eyes were drawn to Mirror Lake. In the central pavilion, Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing were sitting, sipping tea and chatting. A gentle breeze rustled the willow leaves, and the two breathtaking beauties looked like they were competing with the scenery for who was prettier. They seemed well-rested, smiles gracing their faces.
Wu Chi changed course. The barracks could wait.
The two women, being ridiculously high-level heroes, sensed his approach immediately. They turned, their stunningly different # Nоvеlight # but equally gorgeous faces showing a hint of surprise.
"What are you doing up so early?" Sister Lin asked, blinking. The concept of Wu Chi being an early bird seemed to short-circuit her brain.
Qin Keqing just smiled demurely.
"The early bird gets the worm, duh!" Wu Chi grinned, unbothered.
"So, I take it no monsters invaded last night?"
"Oh, a few did," Qin Keqing said softly.

"About a hundred." On Day 12, the invaders weren't undead, but stumpy little green creatures that reeked of sulfur and were literally on fire. They didn't even make it to the wall before the towers zapped them into oblivion.
"Young Master, we already opened all the chests from yesterday and last night," Lin Daiyu said, propping her chin on her hand and pointing. "All the loot's over there."
Wu Chi looked. Sure enough, there was a big ol' pile of stuff sitting on a patch of grass.
"Thanks for your hard work! But you were on guard all night. Why didn't you get more rest?"
"It's nothing," Sister Lin said with a shake of her head.
"Our stats are high enough that we can go a day or two without sleep. Besides, this place is relaxing. Just sitting here eases the mind." She seemed to really love the view. The lake's surface was a flawless, undisturbed mirror.
"Heh. You know this is a bathtub, right?" Wu Chi said with a wicked grin.
Sister Lin gave him a magnificent eye-roll, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks. Qin Keqing looked a bit shy too, but considering her… relationship… with Wu Chi, she kept quiet. Seeing the two beauties blush, Wu Chi let out a laugh, then remembered the sword. He pulled out the [Sword of Shadows] and handed it to Lin Daiyu.
"What do you think of this?"
Lin Daiyu took the sword. "What a terrifying weapon!"
"You're the terrifying one, lady!" Wu Chi shot back. Her stats were already over a thousand at Level 5. This Level 11 sword was a joke compared to her.
"Hmph. You're right, Young Master. I am but a tool, after all," she retorted with a little pout.
"…Shit." He couldn't win against her witty comebacks. He just shrugged.
"So, you wanna use it?"
"It's not really my style. I prefer gauntlets," she said after a moment's thought.
"But… it'll do for now."
"Alright then. Speaking of which, what was the deal with that boss yesterday?"
Qin Keqing shot Lin Daiyu a weird look.
"I killed it," Lin Daiyu stated flatly.
"Yeah, but how?"
"I one-shotted it."
"…."

After leaving the lake, Wu Chi collected the loot from the chests. A cool 9,241 Void Crystals, 2,380 Void Essence Stones, seven pieces of equipment, a skill book, a [Warehouse] building, and a special red bundle. The gear was all trash except for a blue-tier [Whirlwind] skill book for warriors, which was useless to him. But the [Warehouse]? That was perfect timing. He dropped the blueprint, and a small, barn-like warehouse popped up nearby.
