Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 55 - The Undead's Signature Move (3/4)

Out of the mist, they came. Hordes of skeletons—mostly knights and summoners—materialized on all sides, their numbers staggering. The knights formed disciplined ranks, charging towards the territory in a terrifying, unified advance. It was clear this was no mere mob, but a well-trained army of killing machines.
Clatter—!
Clatter—!
Clatter—!
The rhythmic clatter of countless bony feet echoed from the distance, a sound like death itself knocking on the door. It was enough to make anyone's blood run cold. Even Wu Chi felt a flicker of tension—not fear, but that primal pressure one feels when facing down a massive, overwhelming crowd.
"Roughly three thousand of them," Qin Keqing announced, her gaze sharp as she peered into her Wind Moon Precious Mirror.
"Three thousand? That's it?" Wu Chi breathed a sigh of relief. A split second later, the sheer absurdity of his own reaction hit him. The fact that a tide of three thousand monsters, each with stats over a hundred, was no longer a major threat was… insane. In just eleven days, by leveraging his cheat-like abilities and using war to fuel his growth, he had completely shattered his original plans and reached a level of power he'd never even dreamed of.
For a moment, it felt like he was a world away from the person he'd been just a week ago.

But that moment of introspection passed in a flash. Wu Chi snapped back to the present and began orchestrating the defense, adjusting the firing priorities of his towers.
Standard procedure. The moment the first wave entered range, he hit them with the crowd control. Billowing clouds of green, "fragrant" mist spewed from the Fart Towers, giving the charging Skeleton Knights a nasty surprise. The undead, being undead, probably figured a little fog wouldn't hurt them and charged right in.
Big fucking mistake!
Chaos erupted. Skeletons and their skeletal steeds went down in a clattering, tripping, stinking mess. The knights behind them, completely oblivious, piled right into the fallen frontline, creating a domino effect of bony carnage. In seconds, a huge swathe of ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) the charging army was neutralized, buried under a pile of their own comrades.
"…So, skeletons can be affected by farts," Lin Daiyu murmured, her expression a mixture of bewilderment and morbid curiosity. "Is that even logical?"
"It is when I say it is," Wu Chi replied with a smug smirk, arms crossed. Cheaters don't have to explain themselves. (TL note: nerfs when?)
At his command, the damage-dealing towers opened up. Level 5 Pyroblast Towers launched massive fireballs that detonated with devastating force, blasting dozens of Skeleton Knights into the air. While not a one-hit kill, their bodies were shattered into pieces, rendering them useless. Then came the Earth Vines, Frost Curses, crossbow bolts, lightning strikes, and machine-gun fire.
A relentless symphony of destruction. With more towers, all at level 5, the damage output was on another level compared to yesterday. A cacophony of booms and crackles filled the air as the ground shook. Under the onslaught, the Skeleton Knights finally began to fall. First one, then two, then a dozen. Within minutes, hundreds were dead.
The survivors, mostly elites, dragged their battered bodies out of the fart-zone and resumed their charge.
"Fire Rain!" Wu Chi commanded, flicking his wrist.
FWOOSH—!
The sky lit up as a torrential downpour of fire crashed down upon the remaining knights, forcing them back and finishing off a huge chunk of the wounded. Another barrage from the towers followed, a deadly web of magic, technology, and ancient weaponry that shredded the last of the vanguard to pieces.
"Go!"
At Wu Chi's signal, the ten Great Qin Vanguards leaped from the wall. Mid-air, they fired their crossbows, each bolt skewering multiple skeletons, before landing and charging into the fray with their halberds.
It was a complete and utter beatdown.
Soon, the fields on all sides were clear of Skeleton Knights. Wu Chi's gaze shifted to the distance, where the Summoners stood, completely motionless.
Too far. Only a couple of towers have the range.
A few seconds later, the Summoners finally moved. As the soulfire in their skulls flared, they raised their bony staffs and slammed them into the ground.
The earth trembled.
Countless skeletal hands clawed their way up from the soil. In the blink of an eye, a new army had risen. Skeleton Mages, Shield Warriors, Swordsmen… an endless, writhing ocean of cannon fodder, tens of thousands strong.
"An undead tsunami. Their classic move." Wu Chi nodded, completely unfazed. "Earthquake."
"ACTIVATE!"
