Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 51 - Lin Daiyu, The Competitive Eater! (3/4)

Turns out, "Gulp Down the Heavens" didn't just buff Lin Daiyu's body; it turned her appetite into a goddamn black hole.
With everyone watching, Sister Lin lost all control and absolutely demolished ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) thirty bowls of rice.
Thirty.
Everyone was floored. And that wasn't even counting the extra dishes Qin Keqing made just for her. All in all, she probably ate the equivalent of an entire cow.
Inside the Cloud-Top Cherry Inn, the ten Great Qin Vanguards, long finished with their own meals, sat there with their jaws on the floor, watching the spectacle.
Even Wu Chi was stunned. "Daiyu," he chuckled, "did you just multiclass into a competitive eater?"
"…Young Master!"
Lin Daiyu was already feeling the soul-crushing shame of a public spectacle. Getting teased by her own master was the last straw. Her flawless face went crimson, a hint of alluring pink coloring her eyes.
She shot him a look of pure, unadulterated grievance.
"It's the martial art's refinement of essence into Qi!" she argued, trying to defend her dignity.
"That single breath of innate energy is converting my postnatal body to a prenatal state! It strengthens my body, sure, but it's also refining that core breath in my heart to grant me these new abilities!"
"I… I…"

She trailed off, so mortified she couldn't even stay seated, a wave of regret washing over her.
Wu Chi just watched, grinning ear to ear. It's not every day you get to see Sister Lin squirm like this. If I knew this was gonna happen, I would've bought a camera.
Just then, one of the Qin Vanguards, her bright eyes twinkling, spoke up.
"A good appetite is a blessing, Your Majesty. Don't you go laughing at Lady Lin."
"Indeed! You have to eat well to fight well!"
"Look at her go! She must have vigorous Qi and blood. She'd be excellent at bearing children… a fine match for His Majesty!"
"Haha, who knows, perhaps she'll be our queen soon."
All ten of the drop-dead gorgeous soldiers chimed in. They were a straightforward bunch, saying whatever popped into their heads, a complete one-eighty from the more reserved Lin Daiyu and Qin Keqing. The flurry of voices was less like the gentle chirping of songbirds and more like a barracks full of sassy, outspoken soldiers.
There wasn't a hint of sarcasm in their words; they meant every syllable.
Lin Daiyu was mortified beyond belief. "You little hussies," she huffed, her face beet red. "If you want to be a queen so bad, go climb into someone's bed yourselves. Leave me out of it."
And with that, she seized the opportunity and bolted.
The Qin Vanguards erupted in laughter. One of them winked at Wu Chi.
"Your Majesty, shall we arrange who is to 'serve' you tonight?"
"Not necessary! You're all fed, so get your asses to the wooden wall and start your patrol!" The conversational fire had swung around to him, and he shot them a playfully annoyed glare. The beauties were just joking, of course. The moment he gave an order, they snapped to attention, saluted, grabbed their gear, and marched out.
Just then, Qin Keqing hurried over with another platter of food. "Eh? Where's Daiyu?"
"Ate too much. Died of social anxiety." Wu Chi waved a dismissive hand. "Who knows where she's hiding."
"This has your fingerprints all over it, Young Master," Qin Keqing said with a knowing smile, setting the dish down in front of him. "Are you full? Or perhaps…"
"I'm not satisfied," Wu Chi said, his mind suddenly racing, "but my stomach's full."
Qin Keqing froze, not getting it for a second.
The next moment, Wu Chi grabbed her hand and pulled her into his lap. The warm, fragrant scent of a beautiful woman filled his senses. Her slender body was like molten heat, soft and pliant. He wrapped an arm around her waist, rested his head on her shoulder, and just quietly admired her profile.
From the side, Qin Keqing was breathtaking. Her phoenix eyes were full of life, her delicate face stunning from any angle. She was the kind of beautiful that could topple kingdoms. Overwhelmed with shyness in his arms, a deep blush crept from behind her silky hair, staining her earlobes and spreading down her neck.
"Young Master~!" she whispered, her voice like a plaintive melody that tickled at Wu Chi's heart, making his blood surge and his eyes turn a little red.
Just then!
BOOM—!
An explosion roared from outside!
"Monsters are here!" Qin Keqing yelped, jolting back to reality. She scrambled out of his embrace and ran outside. Wu Chi couldn't help but chuckle at her flustered retreat before following her out.
The second wave of monsters had emerged from the mist, roughly two hundred of them. It was mostly Skeleton Shield-Warriors with a few Skeleton Mages mixed in. They were more numerous than yesterday's wave, but weaker individually. That explosion had been the defense towers firing automatically.
BOOM—!
BOOM—!
BOOM—!
The Elemental Towers and Fart Towers opened fire, their initial volleys annihilating nearly half the skeleton army before they even got close. On the wall, the ten Great Qin Vanguards stood with their crossbows, their faces grim and ready.
