Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

chapter 30 - Frost Breath! (2/4)

Wu Chi stared at the system prompt, his finger hovering over the "Yes" button for half a second—Demolish the [Steel Plate Hut]?
He snorted. Joke’s on you, system. His Peppa pig squads might look like walking scrap heaps, but they could fight. Their combat power was legit.
“Getting to Lord Level 5? Easy peasy. The real pain in the ass? Upgrading every single damn building.”
He hummed, pondering for a moment before dragging the [Barracks] into his inventory.
Just then, Lin Daiyu strolled over, gently pulling Qin Keqing by the hand. Both women dipped into graceful, perfect bows toward Wu Chi.
Their beauty? Forget “pretty.” These two were drop-dead gorgeous, the kind that made your brain short-circuit. Every blink, every smile, radiated pure, devastating charm. Standing side-by-side? It was like watching two supernovas trying to outshine each other. Wu Chi’s eyes practically crossed trying to take it all in.
Qin Keqing wasn’t trembling like a leaf anymore. Sure, her delicate face still held a hint of nervousness, but she’d calmed down. After absorbing the info dump and hearing from Lin Daiyu about her grim, tragic future back in the Jia Mansion… she actually felt a wave of relief wash over her.
Maybe ending up here isn’t the worst thing that could’ve happened.
She’d never been strong-willed. She drifted with the current. And now? She was slowly, quietly, accepting her new reality.
“Young master,” Lin Daiyu chirped, batting her eyelashes innocently.
“Didn’t you say you’d teach Sister Keqing some skills?” She tilted her head, adding, “And she should probably get some gear too. You know, something useful?”
“Right!” Wu Chi snapped back to reality. He yanked the book titled 《Frost Breath》 out of his inventory.
...
《Frost Breath》
Type: Skill Book Quality: Blue Description: Learn the spell [Frost Breath]. When mana is depleted, consumes mental energy instead.
...
“Magic..?” Qin Keqing’s pretty, almond-shaped eyes widened as she took the book. She flipped it open—
Before she’d even turned the third page, the book dissolved into shimmering particles and sucked itself straight into her body.

The poor girl yelped, squeezing her eyes shut tight, bracing herself like she was about to get vaporized.
Lin Daiyu: “...”
Wu Chi: “...”
Seriously? Did you think it was gonna explode or something?
A second later, Qin Keqing blinked, snapping back to awareness. Her face flushed crimson, and she immediately ducked her head, refusing to meet either of their eyes.
“Pfft!” Lin Daiyu giggled, linking arms with Qin Keqing and patting her hand comfortingly.
“Sister Keqing’s naturally timid. Master, you’ll have to be extra patient with her!”
Wu Chi found the whole scene weirdly endearing. He chuckled.
“Alright, alright. No need to freak out.”
He pulled up Qin Keqing’s status screen.
...
[Qin Keqing] (Details omitted) Skill: [Frost Breath]
...
[Frost Breath]
Type: Magic Spell Quality: Blue Level: 1 (0/200) Damage: 30 + 30% of Mental Energy Effects: Slow, Freeze Description: Perfect for spray-and-pray warriors. Kill enemies by just blasting them!
...
"A ranged area-of-effect attack spell. Not bad!" Wu Chi nodded slightly. Because of its relatively high quality, this spell's damage wasn't low, and its most important features were the "Slow" and "Freeze" effects!
“Try it out.”
He looked at Qin Keqing.
She jumped, then nodded frantically, raising her pale little hand.
Instantly, a shimmering, ghostly book materialized in her palm.
Her innate talent: [Wind Moon Precious Mirror]!
“Frost Breath!”
Qin Keqing took a deep breath, opened her mouth wide, and let out a sharp cry.
Whoosh!
A blast of icy blue mist erupted from her lips, freezing the very air around her. It spread outward in a wide fan, chilling everything in its path.
The ground instantly cracked under a thin sheet of ice. The temperature plummeted so fast, Wu Chi shivered and rubbed his arm.
“Whoa, whoa, enough already!”
“Yes, Young master!” Qin Keqing cut it off immediately, her cheeks flushed pink, eyes sparkling with wonder. Back home, she’d only heard tales of monks and Taoists wielding magic. Never imagined she could do it!
“Put these on,” Wu Chi said, tossing her a pile of gear. Mostly common and rare items—he didn’t have anything better, and he sure as hell wasn’t bothering «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» with gray junk.
Qin Keqing obediently picked up a pair of boots.
“[Leather Boots]?” She blinked, her expression shifting into pure, adorable confusion.
Wu Chi didn’t notice.
“Come on, let’s grab breakfast inside.”
“True,” Lin Daiyu smiled sweetly, tugging Qin Keqing toward the hut.
“It’s early, but this place is always gloomy. Can’t even see the sunrise.”
Wu Chi ushered them both inside, dumped a mountain of buns, steamed bread, milk, and sandwiches onto the table, and waved grandly.
“Dig in! Don’t hold back!”
“My, how generous our Master is~!” Lin Daiyu grinned, her expression suddenly sly.
Wu Chi’s face darkened.
Oh crap. The mask is off.
He’d almost forgotten—Lin Daiyu had another nickname: “Lin Dui-Dui”. Netizens in his past life called her the “Great Master of Sarcasm,”. an expert at snappy comebacks and passive-aggressive remarks.
“Eat!” Wu Chi wasn’t about to play the simpering gentleman like Jia Baoyu. He grabbed a steamed bun and shoved it right into Lin Daiyu’s mouth.
“Mmph!” she protested, shooting him a playful glare through those beautiful eyes. Then, holding the bun delicately, she started nibbling away… one tiny, dainty bite at a time.
