After Time Traveling, I was Forced to Marry a Wealthy Family

Chapter 48 - II

Before reaching the cafeteria door, Mu Ci and the girl were stopped by a bodyguard-looking man. Politely extending his hand to block Mu Ci’s way, the man said, “Mr. Mu, please allow me to escort you. Let’s go.”

The girl next to Mu Ci was shocked, wondering how he managed to offend their boss. Mu Ci, realizing he had a lunch appointment with Gu Huai, sighed, recalling it was more of Gu Huai’s unilateral request.

Mu Ci would prefer eating in the cafeteria once, but dining with Gu Huai seemed a condition for staying with him for three months. Silently following the bodyguard, Mu Ci felt like he was on a mission to defeat monsters.

The bodyguard took Mu Ci into the VIP elevator, reaching the sixth floor. The management was indeed different, and as the elevator door opened, a spacious living room with splendid decoration greeted them. The floor was covered with pure white wool carpet, and the crystal chandelier was so bright it almost blinded Mu Ci.

Mu Ci shifted his focus to the small woolen carpet at his feet, and suddenly his vision was shrouded in shadow. Looking up, he saw Gu Huai had appeared and was smiling at him, “Why are you up here? I did say I’d take you out to eat, but I haven’t pick you up yet, you are already here. It’s really good coincidence.”

Mu Ci ignored his words, drawn to the tea room on the far left of the living room.

The tea room on this floor differed from the ordinary ones—it was more like an open bar. A dedicated pastry chef created fresh cakes and snacks, all exquisite and beautiful. Freshly made coffee and tea were available, and Mu Ci even spotted a bartender.

Gu Huai noticed Mu Ci’s interest and suggested seductively, “Don’t you like cakes? The taste here is excellent. If you agree to be my assistant with a nod, I’ll transfer you up anytime. You can enjoy them whenever you want, how about it?”

Mu Ci glanced at him casually, “Can’t I come up and enjoy them without being an assistant?”

“…” Although company rules restricted ordinary employees from this floor, but as one household, it must be different. As the Boss Gu’s fiancée, he could only let him disregard any rules and opened the back door!

Gu Huai smiled tenderly, “Of course, I’ll get you a VIP elevator card. You can come up anytime.”

Of course, if Mu Ci could show some mercy—kiss him, touch him, circle him—while enjoying the cake, that would be ideal.

.

Mu Ci’s work gradually got back on track. Gu Huai personally assigned him tasks, giving only one or two small orders with pictures to make it easier, perhaps to prevent him from getting tired.

Regarding Mu Ci’s interpersonal relationships, his good looks made it easy to make friends. Within a week, all colleagues in the team became familiar with him. Although Gu Huai felt jealous, he refrained from being overly authoritarian. Being in relationship shouldn’t restrict people making friends, even though he was a dignified CEO.

Usually, Mu Ci took a car home with Gu Huai after work, careful to keep it discreet. Gu Huai became a bit depressed, questioning whether being in relationship with him was such a shameful thing. Yet, occasionally, Mu Ci accepted colleagues’ invitations to parties, enjoying them like a child unable to get enough of playing.

Every time Mu Ci went to a party and didn’t go home with Gu Huai, the almost thirty-year-old man would sit in the back seat of the car with a gloomy expression, frightening the driver, who dared not even touch the accelerator, nearly missing steps.

Occasionally, the driver glanced at Gu Huai through the rearview mirror, entertaining a scary thought: Could this person in such a situation be compared to a concubine thrown into the cold palace in ancient times?

After a while, Gu Huai couldn’t bear it any longer. When Mu Ci invited by others to another model gathering, Gu Huai rebelled.

“No, either you come home with me this time, or I go to the party with you!” Gu Huai declared with determination, eyes conveying the ultimatum: It was either them or me today!

Mu Ci was momentarily stunned by his intensity, then hesitated and said pitifully, “But…but I don’t want them to look at me like that.”

Mu Ci hadn’t spoken up before, but it didn’t mean he was unaware. While working in that group, he overheard gossip implying he was Mr. Gu’s little lover, a person who climbed the career ladder through his body.

Despite the falsehood of the rumors, Mu Ci was initially angry but eventually felt aggrieved and helpless.

Now, in a new environment with new colleagues, he didn’t want to return to his past life.

Seeing Mu Ci’s expression, Gu Huai immediately understood.

Sighing, Gu Huai comfortingly touched Mu Ci’s hair, “Fine, if I go with you, I’ll keep my distance at the party, making sure others won’t find out. Do you want to keep a low profile? If you wish for a discreet relationship, I can accompany you, okay?”

Mu Ci’s expression froze, then turned to anger. He wanted to push Gu Huai away and scold him in his heart: ‘Who wants a discreet relationship? Our connection is nothing like that. My physical injuries have healed, but have you forgotten what you did to me before, the emotional wounds? What’s with this pretense now? It’s just a transaction, trading time for freedom!’

Under the light, Gu Huai’s eyes were sincere, gentle, and affectionate. Mu Ci’s words got stuck, unable to speak.

After holding it in for a while, Mu Ci finally turned around and said, “Do as you wish.”
