Chapter 66: Return to the Crimson Abyss
Although it was impossible to understand what Julia meant by 'Saint', from the literal meaning, it must be a very formidable existence.
So, Sasa sent a message to Yan Luo.
[Pretend not to understand.]
Yan Luo sat silently, looked at Julia for a moment, then withdrew his gaze and continued eating his dinner.
It seems he didn't understand...
Julia felt quite regretful. 'Saint' is a very abstract word; she couldn't explain its exact meaning to Yan Luo.
Sasa stood aside, quietly observing Julia's expression, realizing that Julia seemed unaware that the pronunciation of 'Saint' in Elvish originated from ancient Chinese, being a loanword.
Suniya was also a bit puzzled and asked her sister, "What is a 'Saint'?"
"A human leader, a being capable of granting others great power," Julia explained to her sister.
These explanations alone couldn't fully describe what a 'Saint' truly is, but they were enough to give Suniya a slight understanding of it.
"If you really want to figure it out, you can read some books in the library of Gass City."
Such distant history could only be found in the academy's library, but the general knowledge of 'Saint', known among elves, had related books in Gass's library.
Suniya responded but had no intention of reading; she had just asked casually.
As night fell, Julia and Suniya originally planned to camp elsewhere but were stopped by Sasa.
The armored vehicle then activated its optical camouflage, fully enveloping the vehicle and a three-meter radius around it.
Without any magical power reaction, yet able to create effects similar to magic, this left Julia dumbfounded.
Humans seemed to have developed rapidly without the elves knowing.
Humans not only have Saints but also these powerful mechanical creations... No wonder they were the strongest race among all the connected worlds eight thousand years ago!
With optical camouflage, Julia and Suniya didn't need to find another hidden place to camp. They set up their tent within the area covered by the camouflage, sleeping outside the vehicle.
Yan Luo, inside the vehicle, reclined the car seat, propped his feet on an ammunition box, and slept comfortably.
The night passed quickly, during which Julia and Suniya were in a half-asleep, half-awake state, as they couldn't fully trust the optical camouflage created by the armored vehicle, fearing that demons might appear and harm them.
Luckily, nothing happened throughout the night.
This incident made Julia and Suniya trust the human-made things even more.
The next morning, Julia, after waking up and washing up, invited Yan Luo, who wasn't awake for long, to visit Gass with Sasa.
In response, Yan Luo chose to evade, speaking ambiguously, arousing Julia's suspicion.
However, Sasa was much more astute. She said, "We've been out for some time now, and we need to go back and report our situation."
Despite not having studied Elvish for long, Sasa could already flexibly use the words and phrases she had learned to conduct a complete conversation.
"Alright," Julia replied somewhat helplessly.
Immediately, Sasa changed the subject: "Since we've already decided to do business with you, next time we come, we'll bring some goods. We hope you can also be ready with items for trade with us. By the way, what I'm saying is not just to you two sisters, but also to Gass City."
Sasa spoke a bit haltingly, yet she could still say a complete sentence in Elvish.
Hearing this, Julia nodded.
"Get in, we'll give you a ride. Afterward, you'll know where to meet us."
Doing so would expose the teleportation point, but next time they come, they would bring Wu Zechuan along.
A newly promoted Second Rank is also a Second Rank, akin to a catastrophe-level demon.
Julia and Suniya got in the vehicle, and Yan Luo started up the onboard radar's wide-area search mode.
This mode only targeted transmitters. While Yan Luo and Sasa were driving around this forest, they placed some transmitters along the way to locate the teleportation point.
Due to the loaded cargo in the back, Julia and Suniya could only sit on the ammunition boxes, watching Sasa use the console to study the muscle tissue of the giant armadillo.
From an external point of view, demons are also carbon-based creatures, yet their bodies can withstand bullets and even rocket blasts, which is truly puzzling.
If it were only for using deflection shields for defense, that would be fine, but city-breaking level demons truly can withstand rocket attacks.
Through the microscope, Sasa examined the armadillo muscle slices and projected the slice images into the air.
Again, mechanical creations that don't rely on magic can project and delve into the structure of flesh!
Watching Sasa's operations, Julia decided to write another report when she returned, informing the lord that humans intend to restart interactions with the elves, lest Yan Luo and Sasa arrive in Gass while the lord remains unaware of the humans' re-emergence in their world.
Though the research process was tedious, Julia and her sister quietly watched Sasa's experiment, not interrupting Yan Luo.
Yan Luo occasionally had to get out to solve demon problems, delaying their time, resulting in a drive of over ten hours to get back to the teleportation point.
Suniya, holding the shotgun Yan Luo gave her, jumped out of the vehicle, gazing at the departing armored vehicle with some melancholy in her heart.
It felt like a dream, where she and the humans communicated peacefully and exchanged gifts...
A beam of light shot from the front window of the vehicle, forming a spatial passage before the armored vehicle.
Once the spatial passage stabilized, Yan Luo pressed the accelerator and passed through it.
After the armored vehicle crossed the passage, it shattered instantly.
Suniya withdrew her gaze and turned to Julia, "Sister, what should we do next?"
"First, return to Gass and report our renewed contact with humans to the Deputy Corps Commander, explaining their intention to do business with us."
At this point, Julia felt somewhat strange.
Humans had disappeared for such a long time, and upon returning, they decided to do business after only a few exchanges.
If it were elves, to complete a business deal, at least two invitations and four dinners would be needed, letting the other party feel their sincerity before proceeding to further negotiations.
With such efficiency, elves fell into a developmental stagnation.
Let's hope the arrival of Yan Luo and those humans can bring about some changes for the elves!
...…
Returning once more to the Crimson Abyss, Sasa gazed through the vehicle window at the reddened world outside, spat involuntarily, then adjusted the light filter mode to remove the red before her eyes.
"Are you going back directly?" Yan Luo asked Sasa.
Because during their days in the Elf World, Yan Luo had rarely consumed the food they brought, eating demon meat instead, so their food supplies were still ample.
Whether Sasa continued her research in the Abyss or returned early to Blue Star, Yan Luo was indifferent.
After all, he couldn't return to Blue Star. Being exposed to the cameras would immediately trigger alarms, and he couldn't use his personal terminal, making him no different than a primitive man.
In that case, being in Blue Star and the Abyss seemed hardly different.
Staying in the Abyss, however, allowed him to hunt demons in large numbers to strengthen himself.
So, even if someone had to return, it would be Sasa.
Sasa thought for a moment and shook her head.
"The professor and I agreed on fifteen days. As long as I'm back in fifteen days, he won't say anything."
This meant Sasa could still spend a few more days in the Abyss.
Yan Luo nodded, pressed the accelerator, "Next, should we go to the Bone-Eroding Plain? Or Blood Lake?"
He never considered the Crescent Mountain Range, where many city-breaking level demons resided; just approaching it, Yan Luo would undoubtedly die.
Sasa had visited the Rusty Iron Hills last time and probably wouldn't be interested in that place again.
Surprisingly, Sasa said, "No, I plan to stay in the Dark Forest, quietly conduct research here! Other places don't attract me as much as the flesh of city-breaking level demons does."
Indeed, something Sasa would say.
