Chapter 8: Ch 8 Kelvin & Nicolas

'That many?' Evan wondered to himself, looking at the viewers count which keeps on increasing with each passing hour.

It has been some time or more like a day since he checked his talent and deadline and had already realised that he is in deep, deep shit.

Not only is his talent at the lost, he is also at the huge risk of losing dominance over his mind and its not even the worse.

It is a world of supernatural, maybe magic, or soul related, but he don't know for sure and he is completely powerless npt even knowing what kind of powers people have here.

Even if he knows, it's not like it's gonna make a difference actually, as without a source, he can't or more like his body can't adapt to the supernatural of this world.

So, if this is a world of magic then even if he knows magic spell he can't use it because he doesn't have anything like mana or magic power nor can you have it.

"What do think Evan? Isn't it a big catch?" A boy with tanned brown skin asked me as he showed me a golden fish, which was as big as my whole arm length.

It was the fish for which all these fiahermans have gathered here and all that commotion is happening, I even heard that there is a competition on who can catch the most of these and this guy here, Kelvin is one of the competitor in it.

"So this is golden Arrow," I said, looking at the big golden fish, whose main body was as big as half my arm and a long golden sharp arrow on his head making it look double it's size. [img in CC]

"Yea, and not only is it famous for its taste but also a favorate of blacksmith to make some swords," Kelvin said touching the long arrow on its head.

"Yea, I can see that," I said, touching it too, and was clearly able to feel how easily that thing can peirce my body.

As for Kelvin, I met him just today and we really hit off great so I asked him to show me around the river on his boat.

The main reason I said so was to see if there's some kind of pattern in how these fishes moves but since there is still a day before they are going to move.

I found nothing as all they did was lay dormant in the river, silently waiting for the day to pass.

"Man, with one of this size I could make a fortune," Kelvin said as I nods before he looks at me, wanna join me for dinner, it's my treat for helping me catch this.

"Of course, it will be an honour!" I said masking cheerfulness to this guy. Not that I hate him or anything, it's just that... I feel bad, about stoling from him yesterday.

Maybe that part of the reason why I approached him in the first place, because I was feeling guilty.

Even though, I had practiced pickpocketing a lot, it was my first time actually stealing, or doing anything which is probably not right even though I was taught that I will have to do all this.

There is a big difference in doing something and thinking of doing something.

Maybe, that's the reason I made friend with him but there is still slight feeling of guilt that's stopping me from opening up to him completely.

"You know, I thought every warrior is somewhat arrogant, but you are surprisingly easy going." He said, bringing up the topic of warrior.

From what I have known so far, Warriors are the supernaturals of these world who fight para-demons, which are the invaders in this world and also the source of Warriors powers.

How? I have no idea and I can't go around asking this to since people have an illusion that I am a warrior and I want to remain that way, it's better than people knowing that I am from a different world and pathetically weak.

The guide has specifically mentioned that many world doesn't have a favorable impression of invaders or outsiders so it's better to be as hidden as possible.

"You know I always thought that warriors are arrogant and don't care about anything, but I am happy that I was proved wrong." He said and paused, and I felt that I saw sadness in his eyes for a second.

"I really do want to tell my little brother about you, and prove him wrong too..." It wasn't just sadness, it was a deep, deep sorrow hidden in his voice...

'I wonder what he went through...'

Soon, it was evening and more and more people started to arrive at this place, they were fiahermans who were here to catch fishes or participate in competition, people looking for job opportunities and even warrior.

Every warrior had a sort of informal meeting with Oliver making me realise that I am not the only one who was interrogated and these were the rules same for everyone.

In total, there were 7 warrior and 8 according to what everyone thinks as they think that I am a warrior too, but it helps me conclude that Warrior might be people with special abilities as Oliver thought I have an ability to see things which are distant.

'Tomorrow is going to be a difficult day,' I thought, realising that my third day in this world can be my last if I made any mistake.

"Alright then, I better join kelvin tomorrow," I said to myself, as I decided to accept the request kelvin put forward.

"You see, as someone taking part in this competition, I can have an helper helping me with things while I catch fishes. My brother wanted to join me but it is not easy when the fishes comes, so I wonder if you will join me? It's fine if you don't want to, I can understand."

'I mean, I can't follow the fishes while staying on land now, can I?' Thinking so, I closed my eyes.

The evening air was cool, and the campsite was quiet except for the sound of a sword slicing through the air. Nicolas watched the boy practice, his arms crossed.

With his strong build, sharp features, and messy blonde hair, Nicolas looked like a warrior who had seen it all. His clothes were simple shirt and pants but there was something different about his aura that made him look superior to others.

The boy meanwhile continue to swung his sword wildly, and Nicolas sighed before finally stepping in.

"Hold up," he said, coming beside the boy. "You're holding it too tight. Relax your grip. The sword's not your enemy but a part of you. Let it flow with you."

The boy nodded and tried again, his movements were still clumsy but improving. After a few more attempts, he finally got a swing right, or atleast better than what it was before.

"See? That's better," Nicolas said with a small smile. It's not that he knows the boy, not even the name infact, but he was still happy to help a child who inspire to be a swordsman.

"Thank you, Sir Nicolas!" the boy said, his face lighting up as he bowed a little towards the towering man.

"Don't worry about it," Nicolas replied, standing up and stretching his arms. "But it's getting late. You should head back and rest." He gave the boy a pat on the shoulder before walking toward his tent as the fishermens and others looked at him with respect.

It wasn't a show of request, but a genuine respect they were felling towards him.

As Nicolas ducked inside this tent, a soft voice called him out.

"Dear, is that you?"

It was Patrisa. She was lying on a cot, her frail body tucked under a thin blanket. Her white hair was tied back neatly, but her face, lined with wrinkles, showed how much time and hardship had worn her down. Her hands, thin and shaky, rested in her lap.

Nicolas knelt beside her, taking her hand gently. "Yeah, it's me," he said softly.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice weak. "I can't even make you dinner like I used to."

Nicolas's heart sank as he remembered all the times he used to come home late but his wife was waiting for him with dinner ready to be served.

However, he then shook his head, brushing a strand of hair from her face with love in his eyes before he take out a locket he was wearing from under his shirt.

"Don't say that," he said firmly but kindly as he looked at the matching locket his wife was weating.

"You've done more for me than I could ever ask. You don't need to do anything else." He said before grabbing his own as he helped his wife grab hers.

Suddenly, the heart shaped glass locket gives a pink hue as a faint smile appeared on his face, but there was sadness in her eyes. Nicolas leaned closer, his voice steady.

"Soon," he said. "Soon, you'll be young again. I promise."

For a moment, a trace hope appeared on her face as Nicolas squeezed her other hand gently, holding onto that hope as tightly as he could.
