Chapter 9: Chapter 9:The Trial of Fear
As Elias climbed deeper into the chasm, the air grew heavier, and the darkness seemed to press in on him. Strange whispers filled his ears, voices that spoke of doubt and fear.
"You will fail," one voice hissed. "The mountain will claim you, just like the others."
"Turn back," another urged. "There is nothing for you here but death."
Elias shook his head, trying to block out the voices. He focused on the golden feather, its light a beacon in the darkness. "I am not afraid," he muttered, though his hands trembled. "I trust the mountain."
The whispers grew louder, more insistent, but Elias pressed on. He reached a narrow ledge and paused, his breath coming in short gasps. Below, the pulsing light of the Heart of Aurum grew brighter, but the path ahead was nearly impassable. The ledge was crumbling, and a single misstep would send him plummeting into the abyss.
Elias closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "I trust the mountain," he repeated, louder this time. He stepped onto the ledge, his heart pounding in his chest. The rock shifted beneath his feet, but he kept moving, one step at a time.
