Chapter 26: Ambushed
The murderous aura emanating from Shizuka was intense, causing Nobita to tremble in fear, he struggled to steady himself, nearly losing his footing before Rim approached to support him. She softly urged, "Calm down, Shizuka."
Shizuka glanced at Rim. "You're Suneo, right?" She then reined in her killing intent slightly, but her trident remained pointed directly at Doraemon.
Doraemon, unfazed despite the suffocating pressure, he remained remarkably composed. His expression barely changed as he spoke: "You've been following us for quite a while now, so you must already know that the sun is a living entity, right? I don't know why the sun acted the way it did, but I can assure you that the meteorite we sent posed no harm to the people of Atlantis. It was altered on its way to Earth. We monitored the meteorite meticulously during transport. The sun is the only factor that could have altered the microorganisms on it without our knowledge. If you don't believe me, I can show you the meteorite's original data!"
Shizuka's face darkened. It was true that she had started to piece things together when Doraemon discovered the source of the electromagnetic signals. Still... she clenched her teeth, "Even if that's the case, so what? You're still responsible! You abandoned us!!"
Doraemon closed his eyes. "Right now, you just want an outlet for your anger. You can take it out on me if you want, but after that, let us help the people of Atlantis. I know it sounds hard to accept, but as you said, we are responsible for this. So, if possible, please let us make amends for our mistakes!"
Shizuka stayed silent, her expression still grim. Her hand gripping the trident trembled, as if she could strike at any moment.
"Shizuka..." Nobita looked at her with worry, then at Doraemon. He didn't know what to do. Doraemon wasn't directly at fault, but Shizuka's anger was understandable. The Atlanteans had been massacred by the meteorite sent by the Përjetësia people, only to be abandoned by them afterward.
After a long pause, Shizuka exhaled deeply and lowered her trident. "Fine, but this doesn't mean I fully believe you. I'm giving you this chance because you cried back then—for a human."
Seeing Shizuka put her trident away, Nobita let out a sigh of relief. He was about to say something when a loud crash resounded, and a robot kicked down the door, storming in.
"What the…?" Everyone jumped at the sudden intrusion. Shizuka reacted first, hurling her trident forward. It whizzed past Doraemon, impaling the robot before swiftly changing direction and attacking the others outside. Beyond the doorway, the area was teeming with robots.
"When did they surround us? Damn it, why didn't the alarm system activate?" Kelly yelled, issuing commands at the control panel in an attempt to activate the defensive systems, but there was no response.
"Again?! Every time I research the sun, robots attack, but the numbers this time…" Rim said in panic. She and Connie had faced such incidents before, but this swarm was overwhelming, as if they were facing an apocalypse in the year 2540.
"Doraemon, quickly, use the Anywhere Door!" Nobita shouted.
Doraemon wasted no time, pulling out the Anywhere Door. However, when he opened it, the other side was pitch black—completely disconnected from space. The Anywhere Door wasn't working. Checking his Time Belt, Doraemon gritted his teeth. "Damn it, the Anywhere Door isn't working, and there's no signal from the Time Belt!"
"What? How could that be..." Nobita panicked, trembling all over.
"The compression box is malfunctioning too..." Karen said gravely.
"I've had enough of these things!" The metal on her wristband slid down to cover the back of her hand, then morphed into golden gauntlets. Despite her small stature, Connie's strength was immense. She ferociously punched a group of robots, sending them flying.
"Karen, get Nobita and Doraemon to the emergency exit! Rim, you're with me! We'll back up Connie and the Atlantis girl to hold off the robots!" Kelly shouted, pressing a V-shaped emblem on her arm. Orange electrical energy surged around her, forming claws on her hands. A greenish-blue energy shield materialized, covering her body. Taking a deep breath, she leaped forward like an arrow, tearing apart a robot with her claws before lunging at another.
Rim also activated her energy armor and pulled the safety lock on her weapon. A red energy blade extended from the hilt of her sword. She charged at the nearest robots, slicing them cleanly in two.
"We can't leave them behind!" Nobita struggled against Karen, who was pulling him away. Though terrified, he couldn't bring himself to abandon everyone.
"Nobita, you're a key figure in human history. Nothing can happen to you. And Doraemon is our only hope. Both of you must stay safe!" Karen gripped Nobita tightly as they retreated, trying to reassure him. "Don't worry, they'll be fine!"
"Watch out!" Doraemon shouted suddenly, pulling out a small handgun from his pocket. It looked unassuming but packed an incredible punch, easily destroying the robot in front of them.
"Behind us too..." Karen grimaced. The emergency exit had been destroyed, and more robots were pouring in. Gripping the metal rod she had been holding, she swung it up. The rod quickly extended into a proper handle, and streams of gray liquid flowed from it, forming an arc before solidifying into a Chakram with white and green hues.
Karen hurled the Chakram forcefully at the incoming robots. It struck one robot, ricocheted into several others, knocking them back, and finally returned to Karen's hand, which she caught deftly before launching it again.
As she threw the Chakram repeatedly, Karen pulled Nobita back step by step, retreating carefully. Meanwhile, Doraemon continued to provide suppressing fire, shooting continuously to keep the advancing robots at bay.
"F*ck…" Kelly muttered as she took in the situation behind them, realizing that the group was now completely trapped inside.
"This isn't going to work. When the robots equipped with radiation weapons arrive, everyone except Doraemon is as good as dead!" Rim said grimly, her face darkening. She split a few more robots in half before being forced back by the lasers from the advancing robots. The energy from the lasers clashed relentlessly with the radiation shielding of her armor. At that moment, two robots equipped with laser cannons emerged from the group. Connie leaped forward and smashed one to pieces with a single punch, while Shizuka's trident swiftly impaled the other, taking it down.
"Then let's force our way out!" Kelly roared, preparing to unleash her full power. Orange energy surged around her. Connie grinned cruelly, saying, "Let go wild then!" Her gloves began to glow brightly, crackling with energy.
At that moment, Shizuka suddenly spoke up: "Wait, I have a better idea!" She said, quickly guiding her trident back to her side, and shouted, "Everyone, come here, quickly!"
Everyone quickly retreated. Now was not the time for suspicion; they all needed to work together. Shizuka didn't hesitate. When she saw everyone had gathered in range, she slammed the handle of her trident onto the ground and called out loudly:
"Aσπίδα του άτλαντα (Shield of Atlas)!" A blue magic circle with strange symbols appeared beneath their feet, and a protective dome formed around them. The robots outside, now frenzied like bloodthirsty zombies, slammed against the shield to no avail.
Shizuka wasn't finished. She continued, "Αρχέγονη Θάλασσα (Primordial Sea)!"
Massive columns of water erupted, swirling around the shield and sweeping the robots away in powerful waves.
"Amazing!" Everyone gaped in awe, while Shizuka panted heavily, clearly drained.
"The robots will be back soon. We need to move!" Kelly urged.
Shizuka, however, shook her head. She tightened her grip on the trident and, amidst her labored breathing, commanded, "Undine, activate the displacement system!"
The trident vibrated in response, seemingly hesitating. Shizuka tightened her grip. "I know, but there's no time to hesitate. Just do it!!"
At last, the gem on the trident shone brightly, enveloping the group in a blue light. Moments later, they vanished from the spot.
