Chapter 42: Rose gathering
Akiza's POV-
Remnant, Akiza was coming to find, was a strange place. Disregarding the whole fairy tale theme it had going on, something she'd picked up on after the brat Illiyana had offhandedly called Ozpin the Wizard of Oz, its internet was quite informative.
It had been a few hours after their meeting and Akiza had holed herself up in the room he had provided her, using the free terminal it held to look around the internet for some common information she missed out on.
This search had led her to find out that even with a common enemy in the form of literal murdering monsters, Humanity could still find time for racism. (Human stupidity really is infinite huh.) She included the Faunus when she thought that, animal traits or not they were still Human to her, because even though she could understand why the White Fang movement turned violent it was the fact they chose to don Grimm styled masks that made her want to slam her head into a wall.
(Ah yes, lets attack Humans while wearing the masks of our shared enemy. Surely this can't go wrong!) Really, she wanted to scream. Again she understood what they were going for, peace failed so it was time for violence, and she saw it worked for a time... But only a time. (Seriously, Grimm Masks?!) It didn't help that the further she dug into the whole thing, looking for hope that maybe it wasn't as dumb as she thought it was, the more she found that showed the White Fang were killing innocents.
Humans and Faunus alike.
Akiza had gone through a whole bunch of information, which she'd easily found since Carly was surprisingly insightful about how to tell what articles were full of shit and what ones were factual. And with an hours worth of information gathering she'd learned that the White Fang had been responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people, Human and Faunus alike, as well as causing an increase in Grimm attacks/casualties...
As well as racism, because of course the Faunus attacking and stealing from people would make people dislike and hate the Faunus, which would then lead them to attack again when the hate crimes started. Fueling an ever repeating cycle.
It was also like they didn't realize that some of the Dust they stole was going to settlements that needed it.
Thoroughly disgusted and done with Humanities collective stupidity, Akiza started looking up something that her boys would all love. Especially Yusei... When she found the books and videos about Mechashift weapons she had to take a moment. She'd seen a video of a woman with a chainsaw whip that turned into a marksman rifle and swore she almost had a religious experience. (I want it. I want it so much.)
"~One would think that meeting a True God would earn that reaction. Yet instead it's a new implement of murder. How amusing.~" Akiza idly brushed away the Dowager's words, far too focused on the thought of a chainsaw whip.
She loved using Thorn of Malice, it was a wonderful Spell that made it fun to play with some nuisances because she couldn't accidentally kill them with it, but a chainsaw whip was a chainsaw whip.
Then she saw a clip of a boy with a pair of knives that turned into a sub-machine gun and knew that the boys were going to be as taken with them as she was. (Especially Leo given his Morphatronics...) She paused, looking at publicly available blueprints and thought of his archetype. (The Morphatronics are going to beg me to show them things like this.) She had another thought. (The Junks and Scraps are going to throw themselves at my feet for blueprints and books...) Then another thought hit her and she felt a smug grin grow on her face. (Yusei is going to lose his fucking mind if I bring back a Mechashift weapon for him to take apart.) That thought did it for her.
Akiza spent the next half hour downloading books and blueprints onto her personal laptop, the machine having been optimized by her, Yusei, and a few Machine monsters she'd added to her trunk for the sole reason to help her and her family with maintenance and optimizing their gear. Yusei, as expected of him, got along swimmingly with the Scraps and had optimized his own deck with them, becoming a menace with his Scrap/Junk hybrid deck that somehow worked. Though he only used that for the big threats, preferring to use the cards he'd found or bought himself instead of outright given...
Thinking of them made Akiza pause. (Did I use the Pot today?) She ran through the memories of the morning she'd had before being summoned by the Crimson Dragon, then realized that no, she hadn't spun the Gacha.
Reaching out to her pocket space and selecting the small 'Gacha trunk', she threw it open and selected a handful of Pot of Greed.
Spoiler: AYE WAT'S DAT DOO?
Her unfortunate addiction to Gacha had started young. A small and innocent Akiza had wondered what casting Pot of Greed in the real world would do, she totally wasn't being a weeb and acting like Joey whenever anyone used Pot of Greed and anyone that said she was was a liar, and used it.
It turns out using Pot of Greed in the real world was basically like opening a shitty card pack with only two cards. Her first 'spin', as she would eventually call it, had netted her two absolutely dogshit cards...
So naturally she got pissed and robbed legally requisitioned some kids of their Pots of Greed to roll again. Their Pots of Greed were her Pots of Greed after all.
After 'spinning' nine more times she learned that there was apparently a hard limit of how many times she could use Pot of Greed every day, limiting her to using it only 10 times a day. That had nearly made her start losing her shit, but the timely intervention of her Mother and the later realization that she could pull cards with a Spirit connected to it had swayed her.
Though that aspect of the spell decreased the higher the rarity of card she pulled. It was great for getting some low leveled Monster Spirits, like the aforementioned Scraps, but really unreliable for the good stuff.
And even though she could forcibly summon a Spirit thanks to being a Psychic Signer, it wasn't a good idea in terms of starting a partnership.
Ever since then she spun the Gacha of Greed everyday after she finished making herself an actual functioning human being, mornings and her did not get along, and gathered so many cards that she could fill multiple rooms with them... If she hadn't figured out she could game the system and sell or trade her trash to the local Card Shops and eventually the Duel Academy's shop. Due to that bit of business she was very well off...
Like, really well off.
Like, she'd bought the compound team 5D's lived in, had it renovated to suit their preferences, and was basically their sugar mama. (Jack being miffed about me being richer then him will always amuse me.) She heard the Dowager snort at that. She and Red Dragon Archfiend either got along like a house on fire or wanted to murder each other, so her having as many advantages over Jack as she did made the mature Dragon quite happy. (~You still can't convince me you two weren't a thing at some point.~)
The Dowager growled within her soul, a sound that would've sent chills down her spine had she been a greenhorn. "~That infernal brute would never fulfill my requirements for a mate. He would be a harem boy at best.~" Akiza snorted at that thought. "~Insolent whelp.~" She had to stop herself from giggling at the Dowager's grumbling. The 'mature'' Dragon was always so defensive whenever Akiza brought up the possibility of them being a thing, always denying it in some way or another, while only making her want to tease the Dragon about it more.
After she had her fun teasing the Dowager, she cast the Pots of Greed, looking forward to what would c... The cards didn't activate.
She blinked, looked down at the cards, then blinked again. (What?) She felt her powers activate, felt them reach out to the spells she had in hand, yet nothing happened. She tried it again, feeling the same sensation of her powers activating... Only for the same outcome of nothing happening. (What's going on?) Worried that something was wrong she brought out another trunk, this one holding her most used Spell cards like Thorn of Malice or Raigeki.
Akiza quickly brought out the former, activating it without a second thought.
Spoiler: Thorn of Malice
Thankfully the spell worked, dozens of thorn filled tendrils appearing and wrapping themselves around her arms. The thorns didn't pierce her skin or clothes, her affinity for the spell and the years of its use had allowed her to modify it enough to not hurt her unless she willed it, which she never would.
Yet as nice as it was to have her main weapon with her, she couldn't help but wonder why Pot of Greed didn't work. Before she could think on it more she felt a small tug on her Soul, the familiar form of her Mother appearing in front of her once more. "I do believe I have an answer for that." Akiza perked up, eager for an answer that she didn't have to think about it herself... "While I would prefer you not to have a habit of gambling," Akiza kept her whine inside because she didn't have gambling habits, she was earning money not losing it, and listened to her Mom talk. "How Pot of Greed works in the Human realm is somewhat fascinating. The Spell randomly connects to spots all across the Spirit Realm, creating some sort of pseudo portal where it then creates a snapshot of the nearest creatures/objects/locations. Those snapshots would then be turned into the cards you 'pull.'" She stopped there, giving Akiza a look she recognized from the lessons her Mother gave her.
Knowing that she was meant to come up with an answer on why this would mean Pot of Greed wouldn't work here, she went over what she knew and what her Mother had told her. She'd already known all that, having pulled a Wheeler and gone 'wHAt's it dOo?' out loud and in hearing distance asked her at some point... So what about that changed now that she... Was... Here... "Oh." Now that she was thinking about it the answer was simple.
Pot of Greed worked by connecting to the Spirit World.
Normally this would be fine since she was on Earth whenever she used it.
But at the moment she wasn't on Earth, she was on Remnant. A world that not only didn't have its own Spirit World, but wasn't connected to her dimensions Spirit World.
When she had that thought her Mother smiled, pleased that she got it. "Correct. Due to not being in our home dimension Pot of Greed is unable to work. This phenomenon may extend to other Spells and Traps, so be sure to take some time and test your repertoire and adjust when needed." Akiza nodded, already thinking about what she had to change.
So that was how she spent the next hour of her post meeting with Ozpin.
From her tests she'd learned that some of her main use Spells and Traps didn't work as they should. A prominent example of this were her Field Spells.
Back in her dimension she could activate and control the size of Field Spells without much issue. The size varied dependent on how big the field was, but she could change that depending on how much Magic she added to the spell.
But here?
Casting Aroma Garden had brought out the Field Spell, but the size was limited to its smallest form, which was the room she was in and a bit of the hallway. She could use Magic to make the Field Spell grow, but increasing the size wound up being more costly then she expected. With the rate the garden ate her Magic she could keep it for a bit over an hour if she wanted it to be half the size of the school, and a half hour if she wanted it to be school sized. It was just an estimation though, but she didn't think it mattered unless she was in a prolonged battle and she needed it to be that big ...
Which was a possibility now given this world was inhabited by an ever growing amount of biologically immortal God made abominations. (I'll need to keep Aroma Garden and other healing Spells on hand. Raigeki and Lightning Storm too just in case.) Akiza went over a few Traps, mostly the Continuous type since the others would require she be in combat, and noticed that her most used ones were fine.
After she was done with that she prepared to look up more information, maybe dig into the world's history or lean about any Grimm she hadn't observed before she was sent here, but she was interrupted by the sound of her stomach rumbling. She was taken back by her biological clock and looked over to the closest clock, reading it to see it'd been three hours since she'd met with Ozpin. (Well I guess it's time for lunch.)
Akiza debated taking out some of the ingredients she kept in her personal fridge, then thought better of it. (I'm in a different world, I'm eating some new food no matter what.) Decision made she got up and stored her laptop away. She knew of some places that should serve some good food, so she'd may as well see if it was worth it.
~A few hours later~
(Remnant's food is weird.) Even hours after her initial foray into the cafes and restaurants of Vale that thought still kept popping up. She had expected some new things, maybe something that sounded weird but actually tasted good, yet all she encountered were things she'd seen and eaten back on Earth. It was like everything had evolved the same way, except the Humans and Faunus obviously, which led to the same things tot eat, and somehow the same methods to prepare them.
She'd even found a Ramen stand...
Ramen.
That was how she knew she was bound to be disappointed. (Atleast they had pizza.) One could never be disappointed with a good pizza, and that had helped her mood.
After she'd eaten a whole pizza, it took a lot of calories for her to satisfy her stomach, she went out to explore the rest of the city. She was curious about where she'd be temporarily setting roots and wanted to know as much as she could.
Despite not having her Aura unlocked, if it even could be considering her circumstances, she wasn't worried about criminals. She was a powerful Psychic, had Magic at her beck and call, and always had atleast 6 Spirits in/connected to her Soul who could react in the event she couldn't... Yet she wouldn't be able to use all of them to fight.
Illiyana was a child who couldn't be trusted around a toaster. "~HEY!~"
Amara would traumatize anyone that saw an adorable little girl commit grievous acts of violence with a smile on her face. "~Hehehe, Akiza called me adorable.~"
Mother preferred teaching instead of fighting, though she'd do it if it called for it. "~Violence is sometimes unavoidable.~"
Aunt Bloom liked cursing people from a reasonable distance away, which was understandable. "~I'm a Witch, what is the point of knowing Magic if I am to start roughhousing like a ruffian?~"
Jasmine was a cinnamon roll.
And the Dowager would either turn a good block into an overgrown garden or a crater just from her Summoning. "~Acceptable collateral damage.~" Akiza snorted at that.
Her only choices of combat Ka were the Queen of Thorns, a woman Akiza got along well with considering her garden was as deadly as it was beautiful.
Marjoram, a wonderful woman who was basically the Mom Friend.
Amarayllis... Which was a good one considering she could control it... Though it was too destructive in a city... (Eh, it'll do.)
Akiza was just going to need to be careful with it in the even she had to summon it. She most likely wouldn't given her instincts and abilities as a Psychic, but this was a new world, so who knew if she would.
While she walked through the city she thought about her Ka. The Aromages were good girls, yet they weren't with her today. Marjoram had called for another one of her tea parties, meeting up with her friends to gossip with or check in on them as she usually did.
The Queen of Thorns, whose name Akiza was never told because the woman loved being mysterious, was tending to her court/garden, but could be called if the need arose.
And Amarayllis wasn't sapient. The massive flower was basically a guard dog, but Akiza loved it because it was such a good one.
She didn't have many 1v1 focused Spirits, though that was mainly because they weren't really needed back in her world. Not many people had powers, the Dark Signers didn't really count since the Earthbound Immortals gave them bonuses while she would've had Psychic Powers even without the Crimson Dragon, so opposition was out. Danger, again disregarding the Earthbound Immortals, was nearly non existent, so that was out too. And anyone that would've been a problem could easily be dealt with by her telekineticly snapping their necks.
Even guns weren't much of an issue considering she had learned how to maintain a thin barrier of Psychic energy strong enough to stop low caliber rounds and tank one sniper round. So those weren't an issue.
All that considered it made sense that she hadn't really bonded with any Spirits that would help her in 1v1 fights. (I'll need to change that.) She already had a few monsters in mind like Botanical Lion, a good boy in her experience, or maybe the bouquet of Rose Dragons. (The little ones aren't as powerful as lion, but together they can be menaces... Or maybe I can do both.) Akiza thought about it, trying to calculate how long it would take to add a handful of level 4 and lower monsters.
Had she just wanted one monster then it wouldn't have been an issue. The 'problem' was that four level 4 and under monsters would take a bit to bond with, even with her Soul helping her.
What that last bit meant was that ordinarily she would have had to start out with a level 1 monster to let her Soul get used to bonding with a Ka, but because her Soul was different, something the Crimson Dragon had confirmed, she was able to start with a level 4. Naturally that monster was her Mother, making 'Witch of the Black Forest' her first Ka. The process took 3 months to complete, which was extraordinarily fast, but now that she knew her Soul was actually different instead of just assuming it was, she didn't think much of it.
With time and repeated Bonding with monsters of all kinds the rate she could Bond with any average Spirit in hours, which meant any non Ritual/XYZ/Synchro/Fusion/Link monster below 4 stars/Ranks/Link Rating, and days for everything else. As she was now it would take about... (An hour for Botanical Lion and around four and a half for the bouquet of Rose Dragons.) She could do both but while she was Bonding with a Spirit she wouldn't be able to use the rest of her Ka since the 'que' in her Soul would be busy. (Should I still do it though?)
Akiza thought about it for a few minutes, letting her feet idly take her wherever they felt like as she did. (I don't exactly need the protection, I've got my TK field up and my Spells and Traps ready to be brought out...) She shrugged. (Meh. Might as well.) She idly brought out her Duel Disk and deck, momentarily taking it out with a bit of telekinesis, then grabbed Red Rose Dragon's card.
Spoiler: A good girl
Red Rose was her first choice of the bunch due to the fact she was not only a level 3, like Roxrose Dragon, but because she was a good and calm girl. The little one liked perching herself on Akiza's head, nestling into her braid like an actual rose, or draping herself around her shoulders like a scarf and cuddle. Either act just made Akiza coo at the girl, which may or may not have played a role in her selecting her first.
Oh she loved the rest of the bouquet, the little rascals were like a bunch of cats and dogs, but Red Rose was her baby. "~Ah favoritism, truly the most commonplace method of selection.~" While the Dowager wasn't wrong about that, because that was totally what this was, she also didn't have any ground to stand on since Red Rose was also her favorite of the bouquet. "~And? I have never claimed otherwise.~" Akiza snorted then put it out of her mind.
There were still sights to see after all.
~Some time later~
Akiza let out a relaxed sigh as she left the entertainment district of the city. Vale had a good selection of movies that she was interested in, and some that the kids had badgered her into getting by being brats, "~Auntieee, Akiza is bullying meee!~" She ignored Illiyana, the brat hadn't even been named and she still responded, and was beginning to make her way back to Bea...- The sound of breaking glass met her ears and was immediately followed by the sound of a body dropping.
In an instant Akiza was fully focused, her senses kicking into overdrive and abilities she kept off flicking on as she locked onto the source of the sounds.
That was easy to do considering it was down the street from her current position. Seeing a bunch of stereotypical gangsters in front of a shop told her what was going on. She would've shrugged and went on her way, only getting involved and killing and or maiming the idiots if they involved her, but that plan was stopped before she could even take another step.. Seeing a teenager dressed in red and black appeared from the shop and slammed a massive scythe onto the ground was one thing, but recognizing her was another.
(So that's her.) Just from a first glance she could say the girl was cute. She definitely had the whole 'Protecc' vibe, similar to Luna and Illiyana when she was just born, and looked adorable in her little outfit. (The skirt is a bit much though isn't it?) She appreciated how cute it made her look, but the practical side of her wasn't sure why it was part of the outfit considering the girl was obviously a fighter, and all fighters should know that the rule of cool only worked if you were strong enough to enforce it.
Though looking at her with a more analytical eye made her realize that this girl, despite her young looks, did have some measure of strength. She wasn't as strong as Akiza was, given the time it was taking her to deal with the obvious grunts that were in front of her made that obvious, but she had some measure of skill...
She paused at that thought, thinking it over. (Actually considering this world and my own experiences I may be underselling her skills.) She wasn't entirely sure if that was the case but she made not of it.
As she did she saw the red haired man start escaping... And deciding to make a good first impression on who she was sure was the main character of this world, she stopped him. It wasn't difficult to do considering her range encompassed half of the city, could reach the entire thing if she got rid of her 'limiter' and fully let loose, so someone just a few meters away from her was nothing.
"What the?" The way the man started confusingly flailing around like a fish out of water made her snort. Said snort brought his attention to her, making him see and correctly guess it was her doing that he was suddenly suspended in the air. "... Heeey there pretty lady, think you could let me down?" He even tried to give her a roguish smile, obviously trying to charm his way out of the situation.
Akiza rolled her eyes and was prepared to respond but the younger girl beat her to it by suddenly appearing in front of her in a shower of rose petals. "Don't listen to him please, he's a bad guy! He'll probably go back to robbing stores and using a horribly designed weapon and bad mascara as soon as you do!" The look the girl was giving her almost made Akiza reach out and pat her head. She stopped herself, but it was a near thing.
While she was stopping herself from patting the girl that didn't even pass the swell of her breasts, the redhead in her grasp let out an offended gasp and brought her focus back to him. "Now listen here Red, my Melodic Cudgel is a thing of Beauty and I won't stand any in...-"
"But you're not standing though?" Akiza snorted.
As for whoever the man was it was clear to see the wind immediately blown out of his sails by the innocent interruption. He just tried to glare at the girl, though the innocent look on her face made him switch targets and lock onto herself. "S...-"
She didn't let him get a word out. "I notice you didn't address the mascara comment." He twitched. "Nor the robbery bit either." Another twitch.
Mustering up a wry smile, the man tried to speak again. "How about I lay off of it for a bit and you let me go? Scouts honor?"
Akiza just stared at him. "Sir," She knew most guys didn't like being called Sir, it felt weird, and mentally smiled as the man twitched again. "I'm friends with street rats, I know you have no idea what that actually is."
He stared at her for a bit, that look of trying to piece together something but it just wasn't adding up. Then he gave her a once over and she got it. "You? The woman that looks like she stabs the waiter if her gourmet food's a few degrees off?" That... She had to take a moment to applaud him for his backhanded compliment, because that was good. Though while she was thinking it over he narrowed his eyes and looked between her and the girl that was standing besides her. "Still, two black and red ladies with rose motifs holding me up in the middle of the night? You two sisters or something?" That made her pause. Not at the comment, she'd absolutely spoil the younger rose motif girl if she were her sister, but at what he was commenting on.
She'd finished Red Rose Dragon's Bonding a while ago and had moved onto Roxrose Dragons, which had finished a few minutes prior to this whole encounter. The moment it did her favorite girl came out and made herself home in Akiza's braid, making it look like she had flowers in it, while keeping her from Bonding with White and Blue Rose Dragon and Botanical Lion.
Said flowers were supposed to be invisible though as they were part of Red Rose Dragon, so him commenting on it caught her off guard. (Can h...-) Her eyes drifted to the younger girl besides her, watching as said girl seemed to actually start looking at her instead of reacting to the situation. The way her eyes were on the 'roses' in her hair made her own eyes widen. (Can people with active Auras see Spirits?!) She hadn't thought of it because she was so used to Spirits being unseen by pretty much everyone, but if that wasn't the case here then she may have problems.
She was a...- "Fuckin Roman. 'Oh don't worry Neo it'll just be a routine job, in and out ya know.' 'I can do it in my sleep Neo. 'You can go out and do whatever it is you do around now, Neo.' In and out my perfect bubbly ass. Now I've gotta stab some brats hot 'step on me mommy' lookin sister and skedaddle before that pyro bitch leaves us out to dry. Fuck he's lucky I followed his dumbass." Her eyes snapped towards the source of those thoughts, landing on an empty space near a nearby alleyway.
She didn't think twice about the fact it seemed empty, she knew what she picked up and were it came from. (First step, surprise!) Without a prompt she spoke at the alley. "If you're a good girl and beg then I'll happily step on you." She could tell the other two were confused, though the girl practically blue screened at what she said, though her focus was on the mind that was coming closer and stopped dead in her tracks as her words reached her. She could sense the surprise coming from the hidden mind and knew this was her chance. (Second step, attack!) With a mental snap she sent a concussive blast of Telekinetic force down the alley, directly at the hidden mind while reaching down towards a card holster she had in her sleeve.
"Oh shi...-" That was all she could think before the blast hit its target.
Akiza's eyes widened as the space in front of the alley broke like glass, the figure of a short woman slamming into the wall appearing out of thin air. "NEO!" That was her only warning before she saw the man, most likely the Roman from the woman's thoughts, fling three red crystals at her from the corner of her eye.
Three Red/Fire Dust crystals.
Her eyes widened and she'd instinctively reached out with her Telekinesis to stop them mid air... "NO!" But before she could do that the girl besides her grabbed her hand and suddenly she was dispersing into a shower of red and black rose petals.
"~AHHH!/I'm gonna hurl!/Oh dear./Well this is new...~" The sudden screaming, as well as experience, was so jarring that she let go of her Telekinesis, making the man drop to the ground and instantly scramble towards the alley.
Though she didn't really notice that considering the street she was on erupted into an inferno. Thankfully they were far enough away from that to not be affected, the girl's Semblance being fast enough to drop them down the road and out of range of the Dust, so that was fine...
What wasn't fine was Akiza instantly vomiting after being reconstructed from the rose petals, her everything feeling like it had gone through a roller coaster at maximum speed. "Oh no! I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I forgot people aren't used to suddenly being grabbed by my Semblance but we had to dodge and I didn'twan'tyoutogethur...-" The girl started fussing over her because of it, which was understandable, but Akiza really didn't want her too.
(How embarrassing.) She was supposed to make a good first impression, and this was anything but. It didn't help that she could hear some groaning in her Soul either.
And adding insult to injury, they heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. They both looked over to the source and saw a blonde haired woman with a riding crop.
The girl besides her made a sound of admiration but then immediately turned back to her and returned to rubbing her back. Akiza was grateful, but internally groaning like some of her Spirits were. (Screw a good first impression, I'm just gonna kill the guy next time.) She kept throwing up after that thought.
Her day had been going so well too...
And there we go. First big change in canon, Roman gets away yes, but to do so he goes just a little too far. He set an entire street on fire with stolen Fire Dust. Surely this won't have any repercussions for him.
I've also been temporarily moved while my apartment gets renovated, so even though I had like 80% of the ch done two days ago I'm only posting it now.
-Akiza's POV-
Sitting in an interrogation room was new to Akiza. Whenever she committed crimes she was either never caught or just manipulated the thoughts of those who tried to get her into believing she was innocent. That latter option wasn't possible considering the woman 'interrogating' her and Ruby Rose, she'd learned the girls name and was very happy at her last name, was one of Ozpin's people. Messing with her thoughts wouldn't be very conductive to their partnership so that was off the table.
She also didn't know how Aura would react to any potential tampering so she refrained from testing it. She'd attempt it later with someone expendable but not now. "~And I'm sure your attraction to the woman holds no sway over your decision?~" The sudden call out caught her off guard, as well as making her reflexively eye the woman's curves, which didn't help her situation at all.
Akiza hid her blush behind her braid in a move that should look casual, and tried not to outwardly react enough to give her away. (~Mama!~) Her Mother and Marjoram, who was here now, let out a few giggles at that. It didn't help that she was joined by the snickering of the trio of Illiyana, Amara and Jasmine, who was also here now. (~I hate all of you.~) That was a lie and they all knew it, so instead of focusing on the peanut gallery she tuned back into the conversation...
Right in time for the woman to look at her with a narrowed eyed glare. "And you." Akiza met the woman's gaze, dropping the embarrassment she felt and stared back. Hot woman or not she would not be intimidated, she'd faced far bigger threats to allow herself to be done in by less. Though the woman just huffed at her response and spoke again. "I'm not even sure where to start with you." She raised a brow at that. "While your intentions were noble, and your actions would have worked," She caught the momentary look to Ruby, though the younger girl missed it since she was awkwardly fidgeting in her seat. "The resulting damage will cost thousands o...-"
Akiza knew where this was going and stopped it by lashing her braid against the table. The action naturally caused the woman to stop, her posture tensing at the perceived threat. "Bringing up the costs in this instance has no purpose other then trying to guilt us into believing we were at fault. I'd assume you'd know better then to do so given neither of us were the ones that threw three Fire Dust crystals in the middle of the road." The two of them stared at each other after that, neither backing down.
Akiza was certain she was in the right, she'd had Roman at her mercy and had even taken down a surprise combatant with the ability to use illusions or whatever it was that woman did. (Though I could've prevented it if I had just 'knocked him out' in front of Ruby and then silently caused a blood vessel in his brain to erupt, make it look like an accident.) Now that she'd had time to think about the encounter and run it over while they went to the local precinct and waited in the interrogation room, she realized she'd taken it too lightly. Yes she wanted to make a good first impression on the girl she assumed was the protagonist of this world, but that wasn't as good of an excuse to allow an enemy to get away.
She was in a new world yet that hadn't really sunk in yet. Oh sure she read up on some history and current events, but the fact that far more people had superpowers here hadn't really sunk in. Nor the fact that they had magic crystals that could bomb her to the fucking Shadow Realm if she wasn't careful.
She would need to reorganize her priorities after tonight, and first of them would be to get her Aura unlocked. That thought made her Mother hum within her Soul. "~Good. Had you disregarded the events of tonight then I would have been highly disappointed.~" Akiza had to use nearly all of her willpower not to flinch at that. The 'I'm disappointed' hit so much harder when it was family you actually cared about.
While that had gone on she and the blonde Huntress were still glaring at each other. Akiza may have thought the woman was hot but she wasn't going to let Goodwitch speak down to her as if she were a child.
Though before either of them could escalate the situation the door to their interrogation room opened, revealing a haggard looking Ozpin... With a tray of cookies? The moment he set them on the table Ruby pounced. "Cookies!" The scene was so ridiculous that any tension in the air immediately vanished.
While Ruby was demolishing a plate of cookies like a pack of hyenas and a small animal, Ozpin looked at Goodwitch, making the woman huff, and then to her. She raised a brow at him, curious about what he was going to say. "I've managed to convince the authorities that the damages caused are to be laid at Roman Torchwick's feet." Akiza mentally blinked at the name, because torchwick? That said he turned to Ruby, a conflicted look in his eyes that passed almost as soon as she noticed it. "As for you Ms. Rose."
"Guh?" Ruby looked up from her cookies, looking every bit a child that was caught with her head in the cookie jar, crumbs around her mouth and everything. She looked so young that Akiza wasn't able to stop herself from cooing and used some Telekinesis to take out a napkin she kept on herself for spills or other accidents to wipe the crumbs away. "Wuh, nooo!" The girl obviously fussed at that, though Akiza didn't really mind, she was adorable. "I can do it myself. I'm not a baby!"
Akiza just rolled her eyes at that. "Then why is there such a mess hmm?" She didn't have a response to that and just settled for blushing and uselessly fidgeting while she cleaned her up. Akiza was used to doing this since Leo was a young boy and they didn't really care about manners, just that they ate, and dealing with Illiyana when she was still in her growth phase. Luna had some moments as well, but those were more intentional since she also desired affection.
When she was done she sent the napkin away to her pocket space, letting it clean itself so she could bring it back out again later. "I trust you'll remember your manners now?" Ruby just briefly nodded before covering her head in her hood, obviously embarrassed. It just made her want to coo and bully pamper her more.
"Ahem." The both of them looked towards that sound, meeting Ozpin's weary yet amused gaze. Goodwitch also looked amused, but it was expertly hidden beneath her look of a strict teacher. Ruby wheezed like a dying animal, which caused Akiza and the brats to snicker at her, while Akiza herself focused on the old wizard, even through her snickers. "As for you Ms. Rose, your involvement required me to inform your Father." Another dying wheeze came out of her, yet it sounded more like mortification instead of fear, so Akiza didn't react. "Our conversation resulted in me making an offer to him. One I will now be making to you." The way Goodwitch snapped towards Ozpin showed Akiza that the blonde knew or suspected where he was going with this, and she did not seem pleased.
She also had an idea of where this was going, but didn't want to assume so she let it play out. (Though if he starts acting like Goodwin then all bets are off.) Akiza disdained Goodwin, as well as lamented the fact she never got to give him the good old 'puny god' treatment that he deserved, and this was giving her a similar feeling.
Ruby peaked out of her hood, looking more at Ozpin then Goodwitch. "An offer? What offer... Uh, Sir?"
Then he spoke what she was expecting. "Your show of combat prowess against Roman Torchwick was noted and impressive. Yet that same show against Roman Torchwick will most likely cause him to target you due to your involvement in his near arrest and the lengths he went to avoid such a fate. In order to ensure your safety, as well as not keep you under house arrest, should you so desire I am prepared to offer you a place in Beacon," Goodwitch looked ready to round on him for that but he held up a hand to preempt her. "On the stipulation that you pass Initiation." That got the woman to settle down, but it would most likely be temporary.
With the ultimatum delivered it was up to Ruby to de...- "YES! YESYESYE-UGH MEH TUNGHE!" Watching the little rose immediately bite her tongue after jumping up like an overexcited puppy made Akiza want to coo again, as well as comfort her because she was hurt... But then she had a spark on insight that made her pause.
She'd known the girl for all of a half hour and was already treating her like a little sister or Daughter. (Am... Am I old?)
The silence in her Soul was not giving her any answers, and Akiza really needed one of those around now.
Things went on while she worried about her being old, eventually leading to her leaving with Ozpin and Goodwitch while Ruby went home, the girl giving Akiza her Scroll number at some point. She hadn't even noticed she'd saved Ruby under 'Little Rose' until after they'd returned to Beacon and she'd gone their separate ways.
-Roman's POV-
Roman Torchwick was many things. A thief, a suave gentleman and sly genius, brilliant in ways many weren't, and quite a looker if the many ladies looked forward to him coming down in the reds were any indication. Yes he was many things, and would continue to be for long after...
But what he wasn't was stupid.
Tonight was meant to be another Dust run, a routine thing he'd started to escalate on because a certain someone started putting pressure on him. Roman played along because while he could deal with Cinder and her ragtag pair of mentally addled butt buddies, Neo had no problem slitting a sleeping enemy's throat, he needed more information.
Cinder was powerful, the kind that doesn't show up without a few rats scurrying away from the area before their arrival, and she'd appeared out of nowhere. His sources managed to give him some information on her, but it wasn't anything he could use against her. (Oh a poor little orphan girl used like a slave by some rich bitch in Atlas, boo hoo.) It'd probably piss her off but that was it. When he got more information about where the hell she'd come from and who backed her, because he would sooner bash his head into a wall then believe 'Cinder Fall' just woke up one day with pyromaniac tendencies and the firepower to pull through with it.
So yeah he played along, did his thing and bided his time, and just acted the fool...
Until tonight's clusterfuck happened and he was almost caught.
Everything was going great. He'd managed to knock off a couple crates worth of Dust from the saps in Vale, even roughed up some dumbasses that thought they were Huntsmen or something dumb like heroes, and then suddenly things went to shit. (It all started with Red.) Roman frowned at that. (Little Red. The distinctions important.) Roman was no stranger to talented brats, he and Neo were a deadly duo back in their day... (Fuck.) He ignored that.
Anyway, him and Neo were talented brats and now they practically ran Vale's underworld. Junior ran some of it too, but Roman and Neo were at the top of the food chain here. There was also the fact Beacon was right there, so Huntsmen in Training weren't a surprise.
Running into one that could fight like that kid did though? (Bad luck that was.) Girl was good sure, but Roman would've been able to give her the slip. She was young and would totally fall for a little ol sleight of hand. (But then there was her.) Roman had said running into Little Red earlier was bad luck, but running into her? That was straight up unfair. (What are the odds I run into the ONE person that no sells Neo?! Out of anyone in Vale, and SHE comes out for a stroll in the middle of the night?!) Even though she thought she wasn't, Cinder was still susceptible to Neo's Semblance. It was one of the reasons Roman was confidant in dealing with her.
But for some random woman to waltz right on in out of nowhere and catch him, see through Neo's Semblance, by reading her thoughts somehow, was just bullshit! (Then there's the fact I had to make a mess to get out.) Roman scowled there, genuinely pissed. He was a thief, someone that worked best when hiding in the shadows. His use of Fire Dust crystals to set the street ablaze was going to get the cops on his ass like a girly boy in the showers of a prison. (Maybe even Huntsmen too.) That was heat he really didn't need.
Especially now considering Cinder was breathing down his neck. (Though I did manage to turn it around. As expected of the great Roman.) He smirked at that, looking at his Scroll as he did. Cinder, as much as she wanted too, couldn't blame everything on him. She knew Neo was their best spy, and for someone to be able to just see through her illusion by reading her thoughts rattled the crazy bitch.
Cinder 'allowed' him to start moving on his own, the heat that would be bearing down on him would ruin her plans if they were spotted together, in order to find out all he could about the woman that showed up and threw Neo into a wall.
So far he didn't have much, but what he did have was enough to guess she was going to be in Beacon.
A woman that could read thoughts was going to be in the school for Huntsmen, the place Cinder was planning on doing something too. Roman smiled at that, putting his Scroll away as he fetched a cigar. (Let's see how you handle this ya crazy broad.)
Roman might want to give the redhead a good thrashing with Melodic Cudgel, but Cinder was a bit higher up on his shit list. (Though maybe they'll take each other out, who knows.) He could only hope.
Though he'd need some new plans.
Just in case.
-Ozpin's POV-
Ozpin watched Akiza leave, a feeling he was familiar with arising in him while his body felt far older then it was. (She hasn't even been here for a day and has already become involved in some form of conspiracy. Add in Ms. Rose's involvement and it's team STRQ all over again.) Then the scene he witnessed in the interrogation room resurfaced and he amended that thought. (It would be STRQ, but if Summer had the maturity and experience as a Huntress, as well as some of Raven's temperament.) While the concept of someone like that existing was worrisome, Ozpin still believed that his fellow reincarnator had the best intentions in mind.
He'd seen the footage of the encounter with Torchwick, understanding just a bit more about her in that small amount of time then he did before. (As unfortunate as it is to say, had Ms. Rose not used her Semblance on Akiza then we would have both Roman, and whoever his accomplice is, in custody.) Ozpin knew the young Silver Eyed Warrior only had the best of intentions, but her interference was costly. They'd learned something of it, the existence of someone with an illusion based Semblance was far more dangerous in criminal hands then many believed, and
Hopefully she would be able to learn better now that she'd accepted his of...- "Headmaster." He was brought out of his thoughts by the stern voice of his Vice Headmistress, making him wince.
(Uh oh.) Ozpin recognized her tone, she was going to demand answers until she was satisfied. Though after the last couple of moves he'd made he could understand why she wanted them. Letting out a sigh he turned to Glynda and motioned towards the elevator. "I will explain, but not here." The curt nod she gave him did not alleviate the bit of dread he felt. Instead it made it worse.
It was probably because he would not be telling her everything.
Ozpin himself had yet to fully process it all, how could he share it all if he himself had yet to come to terms with it?
Even when he did come to terms with it all he would most likely keep some information to himself. The others of his circle did not need to know information regarding the Crimson Dragon or the 'Spirit World' at this time, nor about Akiza's status as a fellow reincarnator... (However if my staff or members of my Inner Circle treat her as if she were not a peer then that may need to change.) Ozpin kept the frown that thought caused to himself as he and Glynda walked into the elevator.
Akiza's show of defiance did not endear her to Glynda, even if it was somewhat diminished by her show of motherly/sisterly affection to young Ms. Rose, so she was already against her. Knowing that she was staying on campus and Glynda didn't know?
Ozpin had an inkling that she would be seeking some way to air out her grievances... And he was not looking forward to it.
As the elevator rose to his office he pondered on what he was and was not going to share. There was a lot of information he could share, not everything he and Akiza had talked about was world shattering, but the context of it all would require him to either come up with something believable or just say she was from another world. (Hopefully I can fi...-) Ozpin's eyes widened and his thoughts ground to a halt as the door opened and he came face to face with the Spirit he'd seen earlier in the day.
The woman was beautiful and had an air of serenity around her, wearing a robe of a somewhat traditional Mage, yet her surprising height, moving eye at the collar of her robe, was enough to show that she was more then just a beautiful giantess. The fact all three of her eyes were open and looking at both him and Glynda only served to reinforce the image.
Glynda, not knowing who the woman was, had an understandable reaction. Her Aura flared, riding crop quickly appearing in her hand as she moved to stand in front of him. "Who are you? Why are you in the Headmasters office?" On the one hand he appreciated the fact she moved like this despite her irritation at him and his choices, she truly was a loyal friend...
Though on the other hand he was slightly exasperated that she was being confrontational to the Spirit who practically screamed 'Magical', especially when he hadn't made any visible shows of aggression to said Spirit.
The Spirit that just so happened to be Akiza's Mother... Th...- Before he could think on whether or not he'd have to get involved the Spirit spoke. "Greetings and well tidings to you oh Shattered Savior," Oz(ma)pin twitched at that address, while he noticed Glynda tense. Said tensing only grew more pronounced when the Spirits eyes landed on her. "And to you as well young Witch of Excellence."
He was most definitely not imagining the not so minor amount of mockery in her voice as she said 'young witch.' It wasn't much, but to some like Glynda? (Like Mother like Daughter I suppose.) He couldn't even say much to her words either due to the fact Akiza, and most likely the Spirit in front of him, was a true Witch.
Miraculously Glynda did not have much of a reaction at the mockery in the Spirit's tone, her response just being a subtle gnashing of her teeth.
The Spirit chose to ignore her response and turn back to him, main eyes closing and giving him a soft smile as she did. "I am Celestine Rhodonite, known in other circles as The Witch of the Black Forest." Well that was confirmation at least. He was idly curious of what differences there were between standard Humans and Akiza in terms of her Half-Spirit nature, but now was not the time to indulge in curiosities. "I believe we have much to discuss."
Ozpin mentally sighed at the narrowed eyed glare Glynda was giving him, just choosing to nod and walk into his office. He'd may as well do this now instead of sleep.
It wasn't as if he needed to sleep off world shattering revelations or anything. (I'm too old for this.)
-Akiza's POV the next day-
Akiza woke up and almost immediately used Black Rose Garden. She never liked waking up, coupled with the fact that she was instantly on guard after seeing and sensing she wasn't at home, so she was absolutely ready to ruin a kidnappers day. It took her Aunt manifesting, snatching the card out of her hand, and lightly bonking her on the head with her staff for Akiza to remember everything that happened yesterday.
When she was all caught up she dropped out of her instinctual reaction to waking up somewhere different and started getting ready for the day.
Akiza easily stripped out of her sleepwear and entered the bathroom. She was mildly disappointed that she hadn't brought her own shampoo and other products, she hadn't ever considered that she wouldn't have them back in New Domino, but let it be. She'd bought some of Remnant's products yesterday to amend that and made due. (I'll need to experiment a bit to figure out what's good and what isn't, but that can come later.) She set that thought aside and just enjoyed the shower, relaxing as she used her powers to do everything for her while she let the water wash over her.
Spoiler: Free titties
After she was done enjoying the shower she got dressed in her usual outfit, it was basically her standard equipment considering it was enchanted with self cleaning and repair properties, as well as some defenses...
And it looked great on her. Style was important after all. She was a badass and deserved to look like one.
Spoiler: I found the braid
(The 5D's crew really are the best dressed in all Yu-Gi-Oh.) She was definitely more then just a bit biased with that take, but who was going to call her out on it?
No one, that was who.
That aside she was dressed and ready to head out and grab some breakfast... Though before she did she noticed she had a message on her Scroll.
* The Wizard of Oz * - If you do not have any pressing matters to attend too could you come up to my office? There are things I need to discuss with you.
Akiza blinked, thought about it, then shrugged. Breakfast could wait. It wasn't like she didn't have things to talk to the wizard about either.
She stepped into his office as soon as the elevator opened, casually eying it all. Again it was just Ozpin, Akiza had expected Goodwitch to be present considering yesterday happened, so she kept him in her sight. She was curious about why he called her up here but also wanted to get this done with so she could go eat. "Morning Ozpin."
The old wizard shot her a small smile and nodded at her. "Morning to you as well Akiza." That said he gestured to the seat in front of his desk and she took the que to sit. "Yesterday... Yesterday was an ordeal." She wanted to snort at that but kept it in. She could tell he wanted to talk a bit so she would let him talk. "In many ways I was unprepared for it. In many ways I am still unprepared for all I've heard and been told." That was fair. She'd essentially flipped his worldview on its head and suplexed it into the ground.
Ozpin took a breath and closed his eyes, visibly taking a moment to himself before he let it out and looked at her. "But despite how justifiably off balance I am, I do still have duties and responsibilities to attend too. One of said duties is to Beacon, while another is to ensuring your stay on Remnant is safe enough for you to complete your mission." Akiza raised a brow at that, curious, but not enough to interrupt. Thankfully he interpreted her curiosity and elaborated. "What are your thoughts on becoming an assistant professor?"
Akiza practically blue screened at that. She'd never gone to college in this life and now she was being offered to be an assistant professor? Her mind kicked into overdrive as she thought of what exactly he was offering her... And had to pause when she figured out what he was angling for. "Combat?" That was the only class she would have experience for when it came to this world, and considering its teacher was another telekinetic, she could see where he was going with this.
Ozpin nodded at her question, seemingly pleased that she got it. "Due to your experiences back in your world you could not only provide useful insight for the students, but it will also give you a controlled environment to gain experience against opponents with Awakened Auras." Well that was far more valuable then the former point.
She had fought vessels for dark corrupted Gods, yet their powers were predictable considering their source. Here she had no idea if the unassuming guy sipping a coffee could pull an Obito out of nowhere or some other bullshit. Last night's encounter with Roman and the 'Neo' woman was enough for her to treat this place more as enemy territory then the vacation a good part of her had thought of this as.
Though before she agreed to it, because she was going to agree, she needed to ask something. "And what about my own Aura?" While her telekinetic shield was enough for low caliber rounds and one high caliber shot, those Dust crystals showed her that she had more to worry about then just bullets.
Ozpin just smiled at her question. "I was going to offer to Awaken your Aura myself. Mentioning it now just speeds this process up." Well that was one hell of an incentive.
She knew he didn't mean it to be one, she could tell from the emotions she was picking up from him, but she was going to take it as one. "I'll accept on the premise you do it now. I'll need as much time to get used to it as I can get." Her arsenal of spells and abilities was already impressive, but the enhancements an Awakened Aura would give her were too good to pass up. (Plus, if I can figure out how to Awaken the Aura of others then I'll be able to Awaken the rest of team 5D's Auras.) She would be seeing them in a few days and knew that some of them were going to chew her out about just randomly going to another world without telling them to her face.
Superpowers like those she had, books on history and the world's culture, mechashift weapons and vehicles, and other things would be wonderful bribes to lessen that blow. There would be no avoiding it entirely, Luna would pout at her and cry a little bit and then Akiza would fold.
It helped that it would serve to protect them in the event someone tried to kidnap Luna and or Leo again. (Maybe Leo could awaken his Semblance and be the hero he always sees himself as.) Akiza knew that would do wonders for the boy's self esteem... Though... (I might need to get him some beginner weapons. The boys have their toys but Leo and Luna don't...)
While Akiza thought of arming two pre teens Ozpin was already getting up. She noticed the movement, she wasn't too caught up in her thoughts not too, and focused on him while the previous train of thought was relegated to the back of her mind.
Deciding to mirror the man she stood up, walked over to where he was, then looked at him. As it was she was taller then him, her 'natural' height and heels made her taller then a lot of people, yet the way he felt made him seem bigger then he was.
Then he raised a hand, looking to her for permission, which she granted, then placed a finger on her head. She could see and feel his Aura surge, yet her entire being was focused on a tether she could feel coming from him and how it was affecting her. "For it is through strife that we temper ourselves. Through trials and tribulations we become more then who or what we were before. Onwards and upwards we strive to be our true selves, I release thy shackles, and by my hands, uplift thee."
And suddenly Akiza was More.
-Ruby's POV a few hours later-
Ruby watched as the white haired girl, Weiss Schnee if the girl with the cute ribbon was right, left... Feeling... What was she supposed to be feeling? She wanted to give the girl a second chance, because the first one was absolutely horrible in ways that had to fit a world record or something, but she wasn't really sure if she should.
She was at Beacon!
Even though the reason wasn't exactly right.
She was going to Beacon with her Sister!
Who had left her as soon as the Bullhead had docked onto the grounds.
It was supposed to be great!
And yet the first person she met made her literally explode after waving a vial of Fire Dust at her and shouting at her like she was a kid for something that wasn't her fault. Ruby didn't want to admit that the show of Fire Dust and the small explosion made her flinch like one.
That, and after yesterday, made Ruby feel like she didn't deserve being here. Ozpin and Dad had said she did a good thing fighting Torchwick and his goons, and she knew that, but everything that happened after it made her question things. Maybe if she was better she could have knocked him out and stopped him from blowing up the street. Maybe if she was faster she could've caught him before he ran away. She didn't ask Dad or Yang about her questions, they were happy for her and Ruby didn't want to diminish their happiness by asking unnecessary questions.
So now here she was, sitting in a crater and just throwing herself a pity party. "Welcome to Beacon I guess..."
"Little Rose?" Ruby blinked, head turning to see... To see the pretty lady that she met yesterday!
Ruby was about to say hi, but then she started floating! "Wh...-" She almost started flailing around before she remembered the same thing happening to Torchwick, making her calm down as she looked towards the pretty lady... The lady named... (Akiza? Akiza Rho... Rhond...) She was pretty sure about her first name, though she was sort of hitting a blank about her last name after everything that happened in the last, like, 15 minutes.
Thankfully the pretty lady set her down besides her, Ruby's shoes landing on the ground as that feeling of weightlessness left her. She was about to thank her but then she brought out another napkin! "Nooo!" But it was too late, she couldn't escape.
Though a small part of her didn't want too.
Ruby fidgeted as she tried to bat her hand away, but it wasn't working. "Hold still honey, you're kind of dirty." Her tone reached something in Ruby, making her stop and just look at the ground again.
"Not my fault..." She didn't know why she said that.
Akiza, because she was pretty sure that was her name, just lightly scoffed. "Oh I know, I caught the tail end of that whole thing." She did? Ruby slumped, wanting to crawl into a hole after learning that someone Ruby liked saw that. Akiza seemed to catch that though as she gently ran her fingers through Ruby's hair, kind of like how she or the rest of her family did to Zwei. "I'll be having words with the girl later." What? "She may have been stressed but that was no excuse to take it out on you."
Ruby blinked and looked up to the lady, not actually feeling any envy at how much taller or curvy the other woman was, giving her a confused look. "Um... Can you actually do that?" Ruby wasn't sure why but she didn't doubt the woman would do it, she was mainly worried about if she could.
Akiza actually tittered at that, making Ruby think she was missing something. "Of c...-"
But before she could finish she was interrupted by someone else. "Hello ladies." Ruby and Akiza blinked, then turned to the speaker...
Spoiler: Ugh
A blonde guy in a hoodie and improperly fitted armor? And why did she feel like she saw him before? "Names Jaune Arc. It's short, sw...-"
She remembered now! "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the Bullhead?" Akiza snorted, the guy flinched like she whacked him in the knees with Crescent Rose, and she just looked at him, a little wary that he might throw up on them too.
The blonde, Jaune, awkwardly chuckled and started rubbing the back of his head like a dork. "It's uh, just a bit of motion sickness, you know? Could've happened to anyone?" That sounded weak even to her.
She just kept looking at him. "No, not really." She had a Speed Semblance, she literally could not be affected by motion sickness. Even if her Aura broke it still wouldn't affect her. Speaking of Aura... (Doesn't it get rid of or at least lessen that stuff?) Ruby had looked it up after she got to middle school, wondering why Yang and Dad or other people reacted to her Semblance in different ways. The first time she used her Semblance with someone they would almost always throw up, but after it they would be fine since their Aura got them used to it. That was the only reason she knew that depending on much Aura someone had, their allergies were reduced or outright eliminated.
He flinched again though and from the corner of her eyes she could see Akiza's lips twitching. "Well u...-"
"Ahem." Ruby and Jaune turned to Akiza, the aforementioned woman smiling at her before giving the boy a look she couldn't read that made him twitch. "While meeting you is an experience," Jaune flinched, and she could swear she saw him pale a bit. She didn't know why, but just listened to Akiza. "I do believe we have other places to be, no?"
That was how Ruby remembered she was here for Initiation! "Initiation!" And suddenly Ruby was holding Akiza's hand and racing towards Beacon...
Well she would be if she wasn't suddenly floating again. She wasn't high off the ground, only like a few inches or so, but she was still off it. She shot Akiza a betrayed look... Only to see the redhead giving her a look only Dad gave her, making her flinch. "Ruby, do you even know where you have to go?"
Ruby looked down... "No." Because she really didn't.
Akiza just hummed. "If I put you down will you try to run off again?"
"No..." As much as she wanted to crawl into a hole and die she couldn't say yes.
"Good girl." Ruby was internally screaming and maybe feeling happy because she could feel Akiza was slowly slotting into a role that was empty for far too long. Then her feet touched the ground and Akiza gently grabbed her hand. "Come along Little Rose." Ruby blushed red as her cape and kept her head down as she just let the taller woman drag her away, feeling like a kid again but in a different way then the white haired girl made her feel. "And you too I guess." Ruby didn't bother to turn around and look at the blonde.
She was just going to follow Akiza and hope nothing else embarrassing happened.
And enjoy the warm feeling growing in her heart.
Another difference.
Ruby's low self esteem appearing early and a few other issues.
The way Roman escaped showed how far he'd go to stay out of custody. The damage he caused and how he did it have kind of spooked and saddened her. There's also the fact the 'Protective custody' may be an excuse for Ozpin to get her close but Ruby doesn't know that, so she's feeling bad about it. Couple that with Weiss' canonical first impression and we get a emotionally vulnerable Ruby.
An emotionally vulnerable Ruby that gets left by her Sister and immediately starts to latch onto the older woman, even if it's not by much biologically, that's giving her maternal affection. So child eventually get. Wonder how Yang's going to react to someone treating her sister like their daughter or sister.
Next chapter will be initiation, which will be different since Akiza isn't going to be a student.
