Chapter 138: Armored Zombie Knights.

The huge, abandoned mansion loomed before him, its dark windows reflecting the moonlight like empty eyes. The oppressive silence and monumental scale of the ruin instantly gave him the creepy feeling of a peak horror game experience.

He walked the perimeter of the courtyard, the tall, wild hedges hiding the structure of the old garden.

"Maybe Evelise is in her chamber."

He thought, remembering the location from the Dead Chapter. He moved cautiously onto the cracked stone path leading toward the manor's imposing entrance, anticipating the silence of an empty building. However, the moment his boot hit the cracked pavement, a loud clang echoed from the deeper shadow of the mansion's wing. It was followed by another, then a distinct, heavy shuffling.

Sid froze instantly. That sound… the clank of metal on stone was unnervingly familiar; he had heard it when he was sneaking through the hallways in his vision.

"No freaking way… You've got to be kidding me. Don't tell me…"

He quickly backed up, pressing himself against the rough stone of the crumbling topiary wall. He saw a flickering glow precede a shadowy shape around the far corner of the building. His heart pounded as he waited for the figure to appear.

When the figure finally shuffled into view, Sid's stomach twisted with a cold mix of recognition and horror. It was definitely a night guard from the manor's past, still clad in a heavy suit of steel armor that covered him from head to toe.

"Night guard… Those bastards are still here."

The guard was clutching a wrought iron lantern that cast a weak, sickly firelight, but the man inside was clearly and horrifyingly dead. This was a zombie in full plate mail, a sight ripped straight from a dark fantasy RPG. The suit of armor moved with a jerky, unnatural rhythm, its helm tilted to one side as the creature endlessly patrolled the ruins.

"Wait… Are you serious right now?"

Sid whispered, trying to keep his voice from shaking.

"An armored zombie? That thing looks straight out of a dark fantasy RPG. It's… it's so cool!"

He watched the monstrous sight shuffle past, the steel plates scraping with every step.

"Ugh, this is giving me that rush I get when I discover a new dungeon. But this isn't just some old building— it's a museum of the undead. Evelise, why would you come back here without a plan? You know how dangerous these things are."

He knew he couldn't afford to be spotted by one of these walking tanks, especially not with his mobility issues.

"If only my knees were fine and if I had a holy sword and some light magic— this place would be cleared in seconds."

Sid flattened himself against the cold, jagged stone, his gaze locked on the armored zombie guard. Its heavy, clanking steps were agonizingly slow and loud, making the creature easy to track but dangerous to approach. Once the guard's back was fully turned and the flickering light of its lantern moved away, Sid exploded from cover. He moved in a low, swift crouch, his focus razor sharp, navigating the broken pavement like a seasoned assassin.

"Alright… smooth and steady. Just like that time you snuck through one of the most boring missions in the game. With how light you move, you could actually pull off being an assassin in an RPG."

He cleared the first guard's patrol area. He whispered proudly,

"See that? That how you sneak with a bad knee!"

But then he froze— the problem was clear. This wasn't a solo patrol.

"Oh, come on… there's more of them?"

Further along the mansion's façade, two more armored corpses shuffled along, their individual lanterns casting overlapping, sickly circles of light.

"Just great!"

Sid muttered, irritated but also finding a strange rush in the danger.

"It's like playing a survival horror game on Hard Mode because of this damn knee."

He pressed on, relying on his training to track their slow, predictable movements. He executed a tense, winding route through the dense shadows cast by the ruined columns. As he crept up behind the second guard, his Combat Vision skill flashed across his sight, a familiar digital prompt overlaying the gruesome reality.

[Execute (Stealth Kill from Behind): Hold F]

He felt his pulse spike and a grin tug at the corner of his mouth.

"Here we go."

He didn't hesitate. Sid grabbed the back of the zombie's steel helm with one hand, pulling its head back hard. With his other hand, he drove his combat knife straight into the gap between the neck plate and the cuirass. The blade found the brain stem instantly. The zombie stiffened, the low moan dying in its throat, and the massive body collapsed with a dull, echoing thud that shook the ground. Sid quickly pulled the lantern and the knife free before the third guard's patrol brought it into view.

"Damn… still got it."

He continued this lethal infiltration, dispatching three more armored guards with the silent efficiency of a predator. Each kill was a calculated risk, requiring perfect timing and a precise strike to bypass the heavy steel plating. His bad knee protested with sharp bursts of pain, but the rush of adrenaline kept him moving. Finally, he reached the grand, decaying marble staircase—the main route to the second floor chambers. However, the stairwell entrance was completely blocked.

The base of the marble staircase was a fortress. Four Armored Knight Zombies stood guard, their heavy suits of plate mail glinting faintly in the dark, red scarves tied around their helms like ominous warnings.

"F*ck it, more armored zombie knights… screw whoever designed this stage. And look at them— they're guarding the stairs like there's a boss fight waiting upstairs…"

They weren't mere patrols; they were static guardians, each armed with a different class from a medieval RPG— spear, sword, axe, and crossbow. Forming a full undead raid party that looked straight out of a nightmare.

"Okay… spear guy's the tank, sword's the balanced type, axe is the DPS freak, and archer's the annoying long range camper."

Sid whispered, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"Perfect. Four enemies, one bad knee, and a pocket knife."
