Chapter 1151: Brother Linghu
The shout from the diner next door attracted everyone's attention, and they all looked at Lin Tian with disdain. Gaining the attention of others made the diner next door even more arrogant.
He looked Lin Tian up and down, sneeringly said, "It's bad enough you didn't bring money to woo girls, but you also want to show off at the restaurant, you poor ghost. You're a poor ghost in the human world, and even poorer as a ghost. Such a pretty girl is wasted on you; she'd be better off with me."
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt a lightness in his step, then a pain in his neck, and when he looked closer, the young man opposite had somehow appeared in front of him and lifted him up.
With one hand, Lin Tian lifted the man, speaking leisurely, "Why are you yapping like a dog? So what if I love drinking tea? Bite me. And do you think you can just talk about my woman like that?!"
Saying this, Lin Tian tightened his grip, causing the man's eyes to bulge as he struggled with his limbs, but he, a mere ghost, was no match for Lin Tian.
The man's companions stood up, intending to fight Lin Tian, but Lin Tian just turned his head and gave them a calm look, with a glimmer of bright yellow flashing deep in his eyes. The diners shuddered inexplicably, looking at Lin Tian as if seeing a soul-devouring demon, and retreated involuntarily.
Lin Tian snorted coldly and casually threw the man to the ground, and the surrounding ghosts backed away in fright, afraid that Lin Tian would mistake them for being in cahoots.
"Get lost! Don't let me see you again in Fengdu City!" Lin Tian asserted dominantly.
The man and his companions were so scared they couldn't utter a harsh word and fled Xiangman Building in a hasty scramble. The ghosts who initially looked down on Lin Tian now gazed at him differently, feeling his imposing aura. In any world, the strong are respected, especially in the survival-of-the-fittest Netherworld.
"Miss, where's my tea?" Lin Tian sat down and demanded with rightful confidence.
The pretty waitress snapped back to her senses and hurriedly said, "Oh, of course... Please wait a moment." She then went to prepare the tea without mentioning the payment rules again.
"Lin Tian, you're so amazing! How did you do that?" Xiao Manxuan widened her eyes, full of admiration.
Lin Tian chuckled, unbothered, "What's the problem? In upscale places, the more timid you appear, the less respect they have for you. The more assertive you are, the more they think you have a significant background. That's just human nature."
"But by being so high-profile, aren't we afraid of attracting the Netherworld Ghost Messenger's attention?" Xiao Manxuan asked, puzzled.
"No worries. Ghost Messengers have too much on their plate to bother with such trivial matters. Besides, I had a reason for what I did; I wanted to attract the attention of one particular soul." Lin Tian glanced at the corner of the hall and said quietly.
"Who?" Xiao Manxuan asked, even more intrigued.
"I don't know who he is, just saw him once outside the Ghost Gate, but I sense this soul is extraordinary. He might be able to help us." Lin Tian explained.
Back at Ghost Gate, that soul suddenly appeared behind Lin Tian and even had a brief conversation with him, clearly differentiating him from other souls.
"Why go through so much trouble? Can't we approach him directly?" Xiao Manxuan inquired.
"It's not impossible, but if we approach him directly, he definitely wouldn't help us or tell the truth. This person is a bit suspicious, very smooth, and extremely vigilant. But if we appear to have a significant background, it will surely pique his interest, and he'll come to us himself." Lin Tian stated. People who speak mysteriously and leave things unfinished are the most cunning.
"Oh, I get it now." Xiao Manxuan realized.
"Don't glance around, he's coming over." Lin Tian winked, reminding her.
Soon after saying this, a middle-aged man approached Lin Tian's table, smiling broadly, "Brother, do you remember me?"
Lin Tian looked up, pretended to think for a while, then shook his head, indicating he didn't recognize him.
"Outside Ghost Gate, we met once, my brother." The middle-aged man reminded.
Lin Tian again feigned recollection and, under the expectant gaze of the man, finally exclaimed, "Oh, it's you, brother. What a coincidence to meet here; I'm Lin Tian. How should I address you?"
"I'm Linghu Cai..." The middle-aged man began to say when the pretty waitress brought the tea over.
Linghu Cai signaled to the waitress, saying, "How could my brother only drink tea? Bring us your best wine and dishes, quickly. I want to have a good drink with Brother Lin."
"Sure, please wait a moment." The pretty waitress respectfully left.
"Um, Brother Linghu, I have a question. How is the food in the Netherworld different from that in the human world? What happens if a living person eats it?" Lin Tian asked curiously.
He was genuinely curious; as someone not from the Netherworld, he'd be disheartened if he ended up eating burnt paper ashes.
"If a living person eats, nothing much happens. They won't die but will lose some yang energy and might get seriously ill." Linghu Cai replied.
Losing yang energy didn't bother Lin Tian; as long as he wasn't ingesting something strange, it was fine. Zombies have no yang energy to lose.
Linghu Cai glanced at Xiao Manxuan and said, "By the way, this lady seems unfamiliar, not the one from that day, but looks like the one on the wanted list..."
Lin Tian knew he would recognize her; shrewd people have keen eyes. However, Lin Tian wasn't afraid and replied indifferently, "Oh, Brother Linghu, do you have any thoughts?"
Linghu Cai quickly waved his hand, saying, "Brother Lin, don't get me wrong. I just mentioned casually. Rest assured, even if the one on the wanted list is your companion, I won't say a word."
Hearing this, Lin Tian knew Linghu Cai truly wanted to associate with him because Linghu Cai chose to conceal rather than report it, considered as a token of acquaintance.
"Thanks a lot, Brother Linghu." Lin Tian said seriously. Since Linghu Cai knew how to conduct himself, Lin Tian couldn't play dumb anymore; otherwise, it would seem insincere.
"No problem, no problem. I often do business and see all kinds of things; this is nothing. It's Black Impermanence making a fuss over nothing with that Netherworld wanted list." Linghu Cai shook his head, showing his disdain for the Netherworld's actions.
Lin Tian was a bit moved; in the Netherworld, saying such a thing meant one was either more senior than Black Impermanence or had seen a lot, including smuggling in the Netherworld.
"Brother Linghu, I'm really curious, what trade does the elder brother engage in?" Lin Tian asked curiously.
"Actually, it's nothing much; I'm a Netherworld merchant, but unlike those who do open businesses, I like dabbling in odd stuff. If you can't think of it, I can help you think it over. Even if you want to send a dream to a loved one in the human world, I can help make it happen." Linghu Cai modestly said, though the content of his words was anything but modest.
