Zombie Apocalypse: Creation

Chapter 596: Preventive Measures

"Commander, what are we going to do about those ships?" Lingang curiously asked as they stepped out of Houqin's office.

"Nothing... We've got enough stuff to deal with already." Xiaoyun answered, his mind still preoccupied with the viral outbreak from earlier.

"Shouldn't we at least try to send a message to them over on the radio or something?"

"If the navy wanted to talk to us, they would have done so long ago... Who knows if there's even any human alive on those ships.

Lingang fell into silence. The pessimistic outlook from Xiaoyun was the complete opposite of his optimistic expectation.

"Don't tell this to anyone else. I don't want to create any panic or rumors until it's fully confirmed."

"Yes, sir."

---

As Xiaoyun walked towards his old, reliable SUV, he was a little surprised to see Anna standing right next to it.

"You've been waiting out here the whole time?"

"I don't want to walk back home. Come on, open the car door. It's so damn hot out here."

With the car door unlocked, Anna instantly rushed into the passenger seat before trying to sit down.

Unforunately, the moment she put her butt onto the seat, the burning heat instantly sent her flying up as a loud bang hit the car roof.

"Ow! What the fuck! The seat is so hot!"

"The car had been here for the entire day yesterday and all morning. It's obviously going to be hot."

Just a gentle touch on the leather was enough for Xiaoyun to remain outside as he turned on the air conditioner and waited.

"You could have told me that."

"My bad... Oops, I almost forgot something. Be right back."

As Xiaoyun walked back over to the armored car, he quickly opened the door with his key before reaching the back seat.

"There it is... What kind of bottle is this?"

With a closer examination, Xiaoyun still couldn't understand the gift that Wu Min had given him.

There weren't any labels on the front or the back at all. The only hint was the fact that it was in a glass container that was clearly meant for alcohol.

"What's that? Where did this come from?" Anna curiously asked, noticing the bottle in Xiaoyun's hand.

"A gift from someone I know... Can you tell what this is?" Xiaoyun asked, entering the car before handing her the bottle.

"Hmm... It's clearly some sort of alcoholic drink. Do you mind if I open it?"

Seeing Anna's eyes glowing as she stared at the bottle with excitement, Xiaoyun nodded in agreement as he closed the car door.

"Go for it."

The moment Anna popped the pork aside, a strong smell instantly filled the car. A sweet yet bitter smell traveled into their nose.

"Das ist das gute Zeu..."

"What?"

"Nothing... Let's get back home first before I drink this."

As Xiaoyun started up the car, Anna's attention was solely on the bottle, hugging it as if it were some sort of national treasure.

"Is that bottle really that good?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as he drove the car out of the parking lot.

"You don't understand... I have never drunk this before."

"I don't understand? I'll let you know I'm the expert in drinking... I had drunk all kinds of alcohol when I was traveling for business."

Anna didn't respond as she continued to hug the bottle in her chest, letting the cold touch through her skin.

"Anyway, I need to go to the administrative office later. I'm just going to drop you off at home."

"Okay."

---

After dropping Anna off, Xiaoyun headed back to the administrative building in Guangzhou before heading straight to Yuqi's office.

But to his surprise, only her assistant was there.

"Jianlin, where's Yuqi?"

"She's at Foshan right now."

"Thanks."

As Xiaoyun headed back down to his car, he immediately drove towards Foshan before noticing the streets looked much emptier than usual.

Everyone was walking much faster, almost as if the sun were a deadly laser and they wanted to get back indoors.

With his car arriving at the Foshan administrative building, Xiaoyun quickly hopped out before going inside.

Going up the stairs, he soon encountered a familiar-looking person.

"Long time no see, Governor. What brought you here?" The middle-aged man curiously asked.

"You're... Lianzheng?" Xiaoyun guessed from his vague memory during Foshan's adventure.

"Thank you for remembering my name... Are you here to look for the Deputy Governor?"

"Yeah, do you know where she is? I need to talk to her."

"She's a few streets down. I can bring you to her." Lianzheng offered.

"Thank you."

Following Lianzheng back downstairs and into the open street, the two of them walked right into two men with full protective gear.

From head to toes, their entire body was covered by some sort of white fabric, their hand holding a hose spray, aiming right at the walls and floor.

The two of them quickly crossed over to the other side of the street as they began shooting some sort of liquid onto their surrounding area.

"Is the viral outbreak this severe?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as they encountered even more men with protective gear.

"Better safe than sorry... It also rained the past few days. So we have to take precautions in case it spreads here."

As they walk further and further down the sidewalk, Xiaoyun can see posters that have been freshly taped onto the walls.

Every single one of them was the factual sheet he had seen on Houqin's computer, telling people what to do and what to avoid.

At the same time, more and more workers were on the streets, seemingly to be vacuuming small puddles of water into a transport truck.

"Hey, Deputy Governor! The Governor is here!"

The moment all of the workers in the distance turned around, Xiaoyun instantly recognized Yuqi's distinct look standing among them.

"Hey... Everyone, go back to work."

As Yuqi directed the workers to turn back around, the two of them finally approached her, working on taping a poster herself.

"Thank you, Lianzheng."

"No problem, sir."

With Lianzheng walking off into the distance, Xiaoyun turned his attention back to Yuqi, who was still taping a poster onto a wall.

"How's the situation?"

"No reported outbreak yet. But it's only a matter of time before those mosquito gets to Foshan and Guangzhou."

Yuqi stopped, handing her tape over to another worker before turning around to face Xiaoyun.

"How's your deal with Changsha?"

"Complete disaster. No deal reached at all." Xiaoyun answered as the two of them walked away from the workers.

"Not surprising... You talked to Houqin already?"

"Yeah."

"Then you probably should go to the hospital first. Visit the sick soldiers. Don't spend time talking with me here."

---

As Xiaoyun arrived at Foshan's hospital, he instantly noticed three suspicious men standing right outside the door.

But after noticing the camera in their hand, he quickly dismissed his worry as he took a step forward into the hospital.

"Hello, how can I help you... I'm not talking to you, doctor. There's someone at the front right now."

The front desk nurse asked, her ears pressed against a phone as she busily wrote something onto a piece of paper.

"I'm here to see the soldiers who are sick."

"Go upstairs and turn right. You should see them right away... Yes, doctor, I'm listening."

Seeing the front desk nurse just telling him upfront like this, Xiaoyun was a little surprised. But he didn't think too much about it as he headed towards the stairs.

After arriving on the second floor, he immediately realized what the nurse meant when she said 'See them right away.'

Rows upon rows of soldiers were just in the hallway, all lying on a bed with nets. Some even have IV drips next to them.

"Hey, who are you? Why are you here?"

One of the soldiers near the hallway entrance instantly questioned after noticing Xiaoyun walking past him.

"Shh, the other soldiers are asleep. No need to wake them up... I'm just here to make sure everyone is fine."

"But you don't like a doctor to me... Wait a moment. You're the——"

"Shush. No need to say it out loud... Let's go talk somewhere more private."

The soldier quickly agreed, following Xiaoyun back out the door before going into one of the empty doctor's rooms.

"Commander, what brought you here?" The soldier curiously asked.

"I just want to make sure all of the soldiers are doing fine... Has anyone died or been in critical condition?"

The soldier shook his head before speaking up.

"No one died and everyone is out of critical condition, fortunately... At least that's what I know of."

"That's good... Is everyone eating fine? Sleeping fine out here?" Xiaoyun asked.

"Yeah. Most of the people have already started to recover and can leave the hospital... The only complaint is that the food is kinda bad here."

"I'll request a chef to come to the hospital tomorrow. Is there anything else the soldiers need?"
