Chapter 113: TST [113]
Morgan glanced at the card she drew and smiled. Her field was cleared of monsters, but as long as Increase was there, she could bring out Vyon from her Deck to extend her plays.
And in her hand, she already held the key monsters for a combo.
Besides, she had more than one Sunrise in her Extra Deck. If one was destroyed, she could simply summon another.
All eyes were on Morgan. Most had already decided she was bound to lose, but a sliver of expectation remained—would she counterattack, and could these new HEROes produce a miracle?
Only a few held such thoughts. Most shook their heads, convinced Morgan had lost her chance at entering Duel Academy's Senior Division. After all, it wasn't surprising that a student would lose to the Director of General Affairs.
Isla also watched Morgan with worry. Charles's strength was unquestionable—he could recover from a brief setback and even turn disadvantage into advantage. If Dark Law hadn't been on Morgan's field last turn, her Life Points would already be halved.
Despite that, she didn't think Morgan had no chance. From the League to now, she had seen Morgan turn games around in unbelievable ways. Once again, she felt Morgan wasn't without options.
For example, that Increase sitting in the Spell & Trap Zone. Like Charles, she didn't know its effect. Though she was certain of one thing: Morgan had a plan. Rather than speculate, it was better to do as Jade did—turn off your brain and just trust Morgan.
Hannah had settled into a seat nearby for a better view, a glass of sparkling wine in hand, still thinking about Zelo's earlier message.
Why did the boss insist on anonymously slipping a few kids into Duel Academy?
Those children were undoubtedly future Shadow Duelists. Was the boss planning to use the academy's resources to raise his own?
That was just his style. One of Hannah's missions at the Senior Division was to recruit promising duelists and turn them into Shadow Duelists. The boss's vision was razor-sharp—steal not only the academy's talents but also their resources.
It was the ultimate freeload.
Still, why not tell her their identities? Did he not trust her?
Annoyed, Hannah tilted back her glass, the sharp gulp drawing stares from nearby teachers. A few young man instructors blushed and slipped away.
"Who is that? A teacher here, too? Damn, feels like I really lost out by failing."
"Wow, that's bold. Totally my type!"
"Are all the academy's teachers this gorgeous? I can't wait for the term to start!"
On the duel stage, Morgan began her moves. She glanced at her hand and quickly finalized her sequence of plays.
A smile tugged at her lips. Charles was curious about Increase, and she was about to show him exactly what it could do.
"I Normal Summon [Elemental HERO Solid Soldier] in Attack Position!"
This HERO, unlike the Liquid Soldier she used last turn, had a heavy, armor-like build, as if made of solid ice gleaming like metal.
[Elemental HERO Solid Soldier] Level 4│EARTH│Warrior│1300 ATK / 1100 DEF
The reason she summoned it was its effect to Special Summon another HERO from her hand—and she had just the monster she needed, one that could fetch Polymerization.
"I activate [Elemental HERO Solid Soldier]'s effect!"
"When this card is Normal Summoned: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower [HERO] from your hand."
"I Special Summon [Elemental HERO Blazeman] in Attack Position!"
Flames burst onto the field, forming a red-armored figure wreathed in crimson fire around his helmet and fists.
Blazeman could inherit the ATK and DEF of a HERO in the Graveyard, sometimes serving as her main attacker with blazing punches. But not this time—Sunrise was the stronger option.
"I activate [Elemental HERO Blazeman]'s effect!"
"When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: add 1 [Polymerization] from your Deck to your hand."
The crowd murmured as Morgan searched yet another Fusion Spell. Everyone knew Fusion was the lifeblood of HEROes, and with it, miracles were possible.
And Morgan already had that unknown Miracle Fusion from the previous turn. With two Fusions in hand, things were turning dangerous.
Charles's face didn't change, but he was rattled. If HERO monsters all had ways to search Fusion, the Deck's power level was higher than expected. In Morgan's hands, HEROes were not weaker than his Karakuris.
She had Fusion ready, so naturally, she'd use the two monsters on the field as materials.
But instead, Morgan finally revealed Increase's effect.
"I activate [Vision HERO Increase]'s effect from my Spell & Trap Zone!"
Charles's eyes sharpened, focusing fully.
"If this card is used as a Continuous Trap: during your Main Phase, tribute 1 [HERO] monster you control; Special Summon this card."
"I tribute [Elemental HERO Blazeman] to Special Summon [Vision HERO Increase]!"
Blazeman's body dissolved, and a purple-armored figure with plastic-like plating emerged.
[Vision HERO Increase] Level 4│DARK│Warrior│900 ATK / 1100 DEF
Charles frowned. Increase had only tributed a comrade to Special Summon itself—no flashy destruction or removal. Yet, Morgan only smiled. The real point was its final effect.
"I activate [Vision HERO Increase]'s last effect!"
"If this card is Special Summoned from the Spell & Trap Zone: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower [Vision HERO] from your Deck."
Charles's face tightened. Among Vision HEROs, he only knew Vyon.
And that was exactly who Morgan was bringing out.
"I Special Summon [Vision HERO Vyon] from my Deck!"
"When Vyon is Special Summoned: send 1 [Elemental HERO Shadow Mist] from your Deck to the Graveyard!"
"Then I activate Shadow Mist's effect—when sent to the Graveyard: add 1 [HERO] monster from your Deck to your hand!"
"I add [Elemental HERO Honest Neos] to my hand!"
A familiar combo, but this time she chose Honest Neos—a card that could discard itself to boost a HERO by 2500 ATK, nearly doubling it for an OTK.
Her intentions were clear—she was ready to end this duel in one turn.
With everything prepared, Morgan activated her Fusion Spell.
"I activate the Spell Card [Polymerization] from my hand!"
"I fuse Increase and Vyon to Fusion Summon another [Elemental HERO Sunrise]!"
Another blazing dawn HERO emerged on the field.
Charles exhaled in relief—at least it wasn't another strange HERO. Sunrise alone couldn't beat his monsters.
Abruptly, then Morgan flipped her set card.
It wasn't a defensive card at all—but [Miracle Fusion].
"Face-down card, open! [Miracle Fusion]!"
Charles's pupils shrank. He hadn't expected her set card to be a Fusion.
And now, activating it meant…
"Banish Fusion Materials listed on an [Elemental HERO] Fusion Monster from your field or Graveyard!"
"Fusion Summon 1 [Elemental HERO] Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck!"
"I banish [Vision HERO Vyon] and [Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier] from my Graveyard!"
Morgan's Duel Disk ejected the two cards.
One was a HERO, and the other a WATER monster. That meant…
"Fusion Summon! [Elemental HERO Absolute Zero]!"
