Chapter 111: TST [111]
A vortex symbolizing Fusion appeared on Morgan's field. The monsters on her field and in her hand, used as Fusion Materials, flew into the vortex, and with a rapid spin, a new hero emerged onto the field.
This hero was clad entirely in crimson, like the newborn sun, with a towering build and a gray cape on his shoulders billowing without wind.
[Elemental HERO Sunrise] Level 7│LIGHT│Warrior│2500 ATK
Seeing this hero, the spectators in the stands were stunned. If the two HERO monsters from earlier could be attributed to faulty memory, there was no way they could forget a mainstay Fusion Monster. Yet no matter how they searched their memories, there was no trace of this Sunrise.
Could this be a new HERO card?
Still, how had they not heard any news of its release?
In a world centered around dueling, the release of a new card was a major event, and so there were hardly any "Uncle" leakers daring to spoil information. Before a card's official reveal, no one would know anything about it.
Could it be that this girl had obtained a new HERO card in advance, which was why she chose to play a HERO Deck?
The crowd mulled it over and could only come up with the possibility of a "My Wife Left Me" scenario. Anyways, most looked at Sunrise with keen interest.
After all, if the HERO Deck was powerful, who wouldn't want to be a hero?
Everyone had a childhood, especially boys, who dreamed of becoming heroes, but all gave up because the HERO Deck was too weak.
If this new card truly strengthened the deck, they would definitely buy a set.
Meanwhile, Hannah was staring thoughtfully at Morgan. Yet again, this girl had produced an unheard-of card. Whether it was the Trickstars or Eldlich Morgan used before, Hannah had found records of them, but they were all from long ago.
And yet, these cards' effects were remarkably novel, nothing like old releases.
But the trail ended there. Hannah couldn't find anything else.
She was growing more and more interested in Morgan.
Just then, her communicator suddenly rang.
Hannah took it from her slender waist and glanced at it. It was a message from Zelo, asking if she had passed her exam.
Thinking of how she had burned the midnight oil preparing while those two were off enjoying themselves, Hannah ground her teeth.
Regardless, it was the boss's order, so she reined in her annoyance and sent him her results.
Soon, Zelo replied.
"Boss told me to let you know he picked up a few kids, trained them a bit, and slipped them into Duel Academy's Senior Division. Keep an eye on them."
'...Kids could just be picked up like that?'
Hannah was momentarily stunned, but soon smirked and typed back:
"Picked up? Don't tell me they're the boss's illegitimate children."
She sent it, snickering to herself, expecting Zelo to blow up, but instead, he went silent.
Hannah: "?"
'No way… Did I actually guess right?'
The next message nearly made her explode.
"Sorry, the massage was too good, I didn't see your message. I have to say, Akiyama really knows the best places."
"Illegitimate kids? Definitely not, you can rest easy."
Hannah exhaled in relief, wanting nothing more than to head back and relax, when she suddenly remembered something important.
"You still haven't told me who those kids are."
Another long silence. Just as Hannah was about to lose patience, Zelo messaged:
"Boss didn't tell me. He said it wouldn't be fun if I spoiled it, so you should guess for yourself."
'Guess? Guess my ass!'
Hannah's lips twitched. She'd always thought the boss was a bit eccentric; even so, she didn't think it was to this extent.
Throwing a few Shadow Duelists into a group of students… was he trying to play Werewolf?
"By the way, when are you coming back?"
Seeing Zelo's message, Hannah glanced at the field and smiled.
"Later. I'm watching an interesting duel."
At this moment, with Sunrise on the field, Charles' face darkened, a rare hint of seriousness in his expression. After all, the monster before him had unknown effects and a solid 2500 Attack, so he had to be cautious.
In a match, facing unfamiliar cards was common. With tens of thousands of cards in existence, even a teacher couldn't know them all.
Despite that, many effects could be deduced. This was when a duelist's logic came into play.
Since the opponent summoned this monster for a reason, Morgan would aim to remove his monsters first. But his Burei had 2600 Attack. Could the opponent's monster have an effect that increased its Attack?
Charles's guess was correct. Sunrise could indeed increase its Attack by 200 for each Attribute among monsters on the field.
However, Morgan had another reason for summoning Sunrise—
"I activate [Elemental HERO Sunrise]'s effect!"
"When this card is Special Summoned, add 1 [Miracle Fusion] from your Deck to your hand."
Morgan immediately searched the Fusion Spell. [Miracle Fusion] could use monsters from the field and Graveyard as Fusion Materials, consuming Graveyard resources instead of her hand.
'Miracle Fusion?'
Charles frowned. Another card he had never heard of.
"Next, I activate [Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier]'s effect!"
"If this card is used as Fusion Material for a [HERO] Fusion Monster and sent to the Graveyard or banished: draw 2 cards, then discard 1."
Morgan drew two and discarded one.
Her hand and Graveyard were well-stocked, allowing her to keep summoning. As the number of different Attributes on the field grew, Sunrise's Attack would increase.
"I activate the effect of [Vision HERO Faris] from my hand!"
"I send [Destiny HERO Dynatag] from my hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon this card!"
She sent the card for a reason—while in the Graveyard, Dynatag could increase the Attack of Destiny HERO monsters, though only Destiny HEROs.
Next, a pink monster appeared on the field, like it had stepped out of a comic, with sharp metal claws on both hands.
[Vision HERO Faris] Level 5│DARK│Warrior│1600 ATK
The spectators were puzzled. How did this girl have HERO monsters from other subtypes? Weren't HEROes only Elemental HEROs?
What were Vision HEROs and Destiny HEROs?
Could the new cards include multiple HERO types?!
The thought excited them. They never expected the HERO Deck to have a comeback.
Isla also looked at Morgan in confusion. It was indeed her first time seeing Morgan use a HERO Deck. Ever since the Traptrix Deck appeared, she had become numb to Morgan constantly unveiling new decks.
In her view, these decks were all strengthened by Morgan's unique builds, and the HERO Deck was no exception.
On the duel stage, Morgan's chain wasn't done yet. Faris had another effect.
"I activate [Vision HERO Faris]'s second effect!"
"When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: place 1 [Vision HERO] monster from your Deck, except [Vision HERO Faris], in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Trap."
Morgan knew this combo well—Faris into Increase, Special Summon Increase, then bring out Vyon.
But she had already used Vyon's effect, so she didn't need to summon it now.
She only used Faris's effect as insurance, setting up for later moves.
"I place [Vision HERO Increase] in the Spell & Trap Zone!"
A HERO monster appeared in her backrow.
'A HERO in the Spell & Trap Zone?'
Charles gave her a puzzled look. Could Increase activate from there?
It could indeed tribute Faris to Special Summon itself, but Morgan didn't plan to do that.
She didn't have [Mask Change], only [Mask Change II], so she needed the Level 5 Faris to summon a Level 6 DARK Fusion Monster from the Extra Deck. Increase was also her backup plan to bring out Vyon or another Vision HERO next turn.
Thinking this, Morgan grinned. It might lose her friends, but it would be fun.
"I activate the Quick-Play Spell [Mask Change II] from my hand!"
"Discard 1 card, target 1 face-up monster you control, send it to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 [Mask HERO] monster with the same Attribute but a higher Level from your Extra Deck as if it were Special Summoned by [Mask Change]."
Morgan sent Faris to the Graveyard and declared:
"I send [Vision HERO Faris] from my field to the Graveyard!"
"From my Extra Deck, I Special Summon—[Mask HERO Dark Law]!"
