Chapter 55:
Although it was supposed to be a private interview, it was hard to miss the fact that the director team didn’t space them too far apart.
If one just perked up their ears, they could easily hear what the others were saying.
Bai Qingqing’s interview, in particular, was unusually loud.
“At first, I thought Jiang Feng was too aggressive and didn’t know how to treat a girl properly. He insisted everyone should split the chores, and when it came time to divide the rooms, he even suggested drawing lots. I’ve never met someone so… straightforward.”
Jiang Nan overheard her words and shot a sideways glance at Bai Qingqing, feeling secretly pleased.
“I knew it, with Jiang Feng’s arrogant attitude, who would ever like him?” He thought.
He was sure that when the show aired, all the attention would be on him. After all, he was the true gentleman—the one people would admire.
Jiang Nan straightened his back, a grin stretching across his face.
Then it was his turn. The program director asked, “Jiang Nan, do you think you’ll get along well with Bai Qingqing? What was your first impression of her?”
With the microphone in front of him, Jiang Nan confidently replied, “I think Bai Qingqing and I will get along just fine. We’ve been getting along well so far. Sure, we’ve had a few minor disagreements, but they were quickly resolved. My impression of her is positive. She can be a bit delicate, but she’s willing to help with the cooking, and that’s admirable. I’m a guy—it’s okay for me to take on more responsibility.”
No sooner had he finished than Bai Qingqing’s voice rang out from nearby, blunt and cutting.
“My first impression of Jiang Nan was awful. He’s a hypocritical jerk. When we were dividing up the rooms, he complained that Jiang Feng was being picky about not wanting to live in the run-down house. But guess what? He didn’t want to live there either!”
She continued, “And just now, when I got the bad house, he pretended to offer me a tissue and said he’d help clean. Please, who needs that? It was way too fake. If you don’t like the house, just say it. At least Jiang Feng, even though he’s a bit mean and his words sting, is honest. He’s not fake.”
Bai Qingqing didn’t hold back. “And Jiang Nan acts like he’s the big brother around here, lecturing people every day. It drives me crazy. I can’t stand him. But Jiang Feng? Sure, his words are sharp, but deep down, he’s kind-hearted.”
Jiang Nan’s face froze, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. His fists clenched tightly, and he struggled to contain the anger rising inside him.
“Why? How could Bai Qingqing prefer Jiang Feng over me? In school, nobody ever liked Jiang Feng!” He thought, feeling betrayed and furious.
Suddenly, a wave of insecurity hit him.
Meanwhile, over on Jiang Feng’s side, the mood was much more relaxed.
The director asked, “What do you think of Bai Qingqing, the city heroine this time? And why did you give her the house you originally got?”
Bai Qingqing, who had just finished her own interview, happened to pass by and paused, her ears perking up with curiosity. She wanted to hear what Jiang Feng would say.
“Surely, he’ll say something nice for the cameras.” She thought.
However, Jiang Feng remained true to form. “Crybaby,” he said, pouting with an air of pride. “If it wasn’t for the fact that my mom taught me that boys should let girls have their way, especially when they cry, I wouldn’t have given her the house. I’ve got a pretty good temper, but honestly, she’s useless except for being pretty.”
Bai Qingqing stood there, speechless.
For some reason, though, she couldn’t bring herself to be mad at him.
