Your Reminiscence

Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8: REVERY

Eunha arrived at the park a few minutes before the agreed upon time, feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement. Sunghoon was already there, sitting on a park bench and looking out at the trees growing along the park side. She caught her breath as she saw him, his profile framed by the sunlight.

He looked handsome, almost impossibly so. His dark hair fell over his forehead, his eyes reflecting the autumn light. His long, lean frame was relaxed, one arm resting on the back of the bench. He was dressed casually in a simple t-shirt and jeans, but somehow managed to look like a model on a photoshoot.

As if sensing her presence, he looked up and noticed her standing there. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, and he lifted a hand in a friendly wave. "Hey," he called out, his voice carrying easily over the distance between them.

Eunha felt her heart skip a beat as she heard his voice. She couldn't help but smile back, her nerves melting away under the warmth of his gaze. "Hey," she replied, her voice a little breathless.

She walked closer, her feet feeling a bit unsteady as she made her way over to him. He rose from the bench as she approached, his eyes locking with hers. "You look nice today," he said softly, his eyes taking her in with appreciation.

Eunha felt a rush of warmth at his words. She had spent extra time getting ready that morning, carefully selecting an outfit that she thought would look good. Being complimented by him made her stomach flutter with butterflies.

"Thanks," she said, feeling a little shy. She smoothed down the front of her skirt, suddenly aware of how close they were standing to each other. "So do you."

Sunghoon chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners in a way that made her heart skip a beat. "I just threw on whatever looked clean," he said breezily, running a hand through his hair.

Eunha smiled at his casual attitude. She liked that about him - the way he didn't feel the need to put on airs and act like someone he wasn't. He was just himself, and that was one of the things that made him so irresistible.

They stood there in silence for a moment, simply looking at each other. Eunha was struck by how natural it felt to be standing there with him. Despite the awkwardness of their last meeting, being with him like this felt easy and comfortable.

After a moment, Sunghoon spoke up, his voice soft and inviting. "Want to go for a walk?" He gestured towards the park pathway that wound through the trees.

Eunha nodded, feeling her heart flutter in her chest. She wasn't sure where this was going, but she was happy to follow his lead. "Yeah, that sounds nice," she said, trying to sound casual.

He offered his arm, a gesture that seemed both old-fashioned and oddly charming. Eunha hesitated for a moment, then looped her arm through his, feeling the warmth of his body through the thin fabric of his shirt.

They started walking, falling into step with each other easily. The crunching of the leaves underfoot provided a rhythmic backdrop to their silence. Eunha was acutely aware of Sunghoon's proximity - the way his arm brushed against hers, his body heat radiating through her clothing.

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, trying not to be obvious about it. His profile was even more striking up close, his strong jawline and high cheekbones casting shadows against the backdrop of the trees and sky.

The silence between them stretched out, but it wasn't uncomfortable. It felt strangely natural, as if they didn't need to speak to be comfortable in each other's company. Eunha found herself relaxing more with each step, her anxiety and doubts fading away as they walked.

The park seemed to grow more beautiful with each passing moment. The sunlight filtering through the trees cast moving shadows on the path, creating a constantly changing pattern of light and dark. The leaves falling from the trees swirled around them in a colorful dance, catching the light and swirling away again like miniature ballerinas.

As they continued to walk, Sunghoon suddenly spoke up, breaking the silence between them. "Hey, do you remember that birthday party you had in middle school?" he asked, looking at her sidelong.

Eunha blinked, caught off guard by the sudden question. "Yeah," she said after a moment, a small smile curving her lips at the memory. "It was my 12th birthday, I think. Why?"

Sunghoon smiled, his eyes brightening at the memory. "I was there, actually. I remember your parents rented out a bowling alley for the party, and you invited like, all of our classmates."

Eunha's eyes widened in surprise. She couldn't believe that he remembered the details of such a small thing from so long ago. "You remember that?" she asked, not quite believing it.

She let out a small sigh, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and nostalgia. "It was my parents idea to invite the whole class. I think they were just happy to show off their money."

Eunha looked over at him, realization dawning on her. "Wait a minute," she said, her eyes widening. "If you were invited, that means you were also in class A in middle school, right?"

Sunghoon nodded, a hint of a grimace passing over his face. "Yeah, that's right. I got sick during our second year of middle school, and I was pretty sick for a while. By the time I was better, I was too far behind to catch up with class A. So they switched me to class B."

Eunha felt a pang of sympathy. She knew that the difference between class A and class B was significant. Class A students were considered the smartest and most accomplished, while class B was seen as the less academically gifted.

"I'm sorry," she said softly, her voice filled with genuine concern. "I had no idea. It must have been hard, being switched to class B."

Sunghoon shrugged, trying to play it off as no big deal. "It's okay now," he said, managing a smile. "I worked my ass off to get back into class A for senior year. No way was I gonna graduate from class B."

Eunha looked at him with admiration. She had known he was smart, but she hadn't known the full extent of his determination. The fact that he'd worked so hard to get back into class A was impressive, and it made her heart swell with pride.

Sunghoon leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a half-whisper. "There's another reason why I work so hard, you know."

Eunha felt her heart skip a beat, wondering what he meant by that. "What's the reason?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Sunghoon hesitated, as if debating whether to tell her. Then, he seemed to make a decision, his eyes meeting hers. "Promise you won't laugh, okay?"

Eunha nodded, her interest piqued. "I promise, I won't laugh," she said softly, her heart racing in anticipation.

Sunghoon leaned even closer, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. "But it's a secret," he murmured, his voice low and conspiratorial.

Eunha was caught off guard by his sudden proximity, her heart hammering in her chest. Her curiosity was piqued even more now, and she leaned in instinctively. "What kind of secret?" she breathed, her voice barely audible.

Sunghoon's smile widened, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you," he joked, his voice laced with humor.

Eunha felt a shiver run down her spine at his words, despite knowing he was joking. "I won't tell anyone, I swear," she whispered, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.

Sunghoon chuckled, drawing back to a more respectable distance. "I'm just messing with you," he said, still smiling. "But seriously, it's a big secret. Can you keep it for me?"

Eunha felt her heart swell with an inexplicable emotion - a mix of anticipation and a strange sense of responsibility. "I can keep a secret," she said firmly, her voice steady despite her racing heart.

Sunghoon looked at her for a long moment, his eyes searching hers. After a few seconds, he seemed to come to a decision, his smile softening. "I believe you," he murmured, his voice low and sincere.

Sunghoon paused for a moment, his expression softening. Then, with a sheepish smile, he admitted, "Actually, it contains nothing."

Eunha blinked in surprise, her eyebrows raising. "Wait, what?" she demanded. "You tease me with secrets and then tell me there's nothing?"

Sunghoon laughed, his eyes sparkling playfully. "Yeah, I just wanted to see your reaction," he said, grinning mischievously.

Eunha felt a mixture of irritation and amusement. "You're insufferable, you know that?" she said, trying to hide a smile.

Sunghoon chuckled, completely unrepentant. "I know," he said, a satisfied grin on his face. "But admit it, you like it."

Eunha rolled her eyes, but she couldn't deny the truth in his words. There was something annoyingly charming about his cocky attitude.

"Okay, fine, maybe I do," she grudgingly admitted, her voice tinged with a mix of annoyance and grudging affection.

Sunghoon laughed, clearly pleased with her response. "See, I knew it," he said, flashing her a cocky grin. "You can't resist my charm."

Eunha sighed, unable to deny the truth. "You really are insufferable," she grumbled, but there was a touch of fondness in her voice.

Sunghoon just chuckled, clearly enjoying her irritation. "You love it," he teased, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

Eunha huffed, trying to act annoyed, but inside, her heart was skipping a beat at his teasing. She hated how easy it was for him to get a reaction out of her.

Eunha followed Sunghoon as they rounded a corner and spotted a small, cozy cafe tucked away in a nearby alley. The front window was lined with potted succulents, and a small bell on the door chimed as they entered. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods filled the air, and the warm lighting made the space feel intimate and inviting.

Sunghoon gestured for her to find a seat, and Eunha picked a cozy corner table near the back of the cafe. The soft hum of conversation provided a pleasant backdrop as they settled in, the world outside feeling far away.

Sunghoon looked across the table at Eunha, his eyes soft in the warm light. "So, what do you want?" he asked, breaking the pleasant silence. "Tea? Coffee? Hot cocoa?"

Eunha looked up from the menu, considering her options. "Hot cocoa sounds nice," she said, realizing that she was indeed cold from their walk outside. "And maybe a muffin?"

Sunghoon chuckled, his eyes sparkling. "Okay, a hot cocoa and a muffin for the little princess," he said with a grin.

Eunha blushed at his nickname, feeling a mix of annoyed and flattered. She had never been called "princess" before, and it both irritated and pleased her. "Hey, stop calling me that," she grumbled, her cheeks still tinged pink.

Sunghoon just laughed, clearly enjoying her reaction. "Why? It's cute," he said, grinning at her. "You're like a princess, all pretty and delicate."

Eunha rolled her eyes, but inside, her heart skipped a beat at his words. She wasn't used to being called delicate, and she had to admit, there was something oddly satisfying about it.

But she wasn't going to let him know that. "You're such a jerk," she retorted, though the words lacked any real bite.

Sunghoon chuckled, clearly not bothered by her insult. "And you love it," he retorted, still grinning smugly.

Eunha huffed, feeling frustrated and oddly flustered. He was so unapologetically cocky, it was both irritating and charming. She couldn't win against him, and she hated that he knew it.

"I do not love it," she insisted, trying to maintain a dignified expression. "You're just obnoxious and arrogant, that's all."

Sunghoon smirked at her comment, clearly unfazed. "Yeah, yeah, I'm terrible," he said, still grinning. "But you still like me."

Eunha rolled her eyes, not wanting to admit that he was right. "Just go place the order, will you?" she grumbled, waving a hand towards the counter.

Sunghoon chuckled, standing up from his chair and stretching. "Fine, fine, I'll go," he said, starting towards the counter. "Don't miss me too much while I'm gone, princess."

Eunha rolled her eyes again, shaking her head at his insufferable confidence. "I won't miss you at all," she called after him, trying to keep her voice steady.

But she couldn't help but watch him as he walked away, feeling a strange pang of longing in her heart. She hated how he made her feel - both irritated and attracted, angry and flustered. It was like he had some kind of hold on her that she couldn't break free from.

She watched as he chatted with the barista at the counter, his easy smile making him look like the charming heartthrob he was. She couldn't help but be envious of how effortlessly charming he was, how people seemed drawn to him like moths to a flame.

And then, as if sensing her gaze, he suddenly looked over and caught her watching. Eunha froze, feeling like a deer caught in headlights. For a moment, their eyes met, and Eunha felt a strange mixture of embarrassment and thrill.

Sunghoon just smirked, clearly enjoying catching her staring. He mouthed something that looked like "Missed me already?" and Eunha felt her heart skip a beat, despite the playful insult.

She scowled, trying to hide her flustered reaction. How was he so damn attractive and irritating at the same time? She turned away from him, trying to act nonchalant, but she could still feel his gaze on her.

A few moments later, he returned to the table, carrying a tray with their orders. Eunha tried to act nonchalant, but she couldn't completely hide the feeling of relief that washed over her. As he set down the tray, she noticed three steaming mugs on it. "What's that one for?" she asked, gesturing to the extra mug.

Sunghoon followed her gaze, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Oh, that's for me," he said, plopping down into his chair. "I ordered coffee too."

Eunha blinked, surprised. "You ordered coffee and hot cocoa?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do you have a caffeine addiction or something?"

Sunghoon chuckled, taking one of the mugs and taking a sip. "Nah, I just like coffee too much to pass it up," he said, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "You got a problem with that?"

Eunha rolled her eyes, feeling a mix of irritation and amusement at his smug attitude. "No, I just think you're insane for mixing the two," she muttered, reaching for her own mug of cocoa.

Sunghoon shrugged, still smiling. "Well, I like living on the edge," he said, taking another sip of his coffee. "What's so great about hot cocoa anyway?"

Eunha raised an eyebrow, bristling at the comment. "Are you kidding?" she said, her voice filled with disbelief. "Hot cocoa is like a hug in a mug. It's warm and comforting and sweet. What's so great about bitter coffee?"

Sunghoon grinned, clearly enjoying her reaction. "Well, coffee is like a strong kick in the face," he said, taking another sip of his coffee. "It wakes you up and energizes you. It's pure caffeine, pure energy."

Eunha huffed, feeling defensive of her beloved hot cocoa. "That doesn't sound enjoyable," she said, taking a small sip of her drink. "I'll stick with my warm, comforting hug in a mug, thank you very much."

Sunghoon chuckled, clearly entertained by her stubbornness. "You're missing out on a whole world of flavor, princess," he said, still grinning. "But hey, if you want to stick with your kiddie drink, that's fine by me."

Eunha bristled at the word "kiddie," knowing that he was just trying to get a reaction out of her. "It's not a kiddie drink," she said, feeling defensive. "Hot cocoa is a classic favorite among all ages. It's not just for kids."

Sunghoon chuckled again, clearly enjoying her defensive attitude. "Sure, sure, it's a classic among all ages. But it's mostly kids who get all excited about hot cocoa, isn't it?"

Eunha huffed, feeling annoyed by his smug attitude. "So what if it is? It's still better than bitter, disgusting coffee."

Sunghoon chuckled at her comment. "See, there's where you're wrong," he said, his eyes sparkling. "Coffee is an acquired taste. It takes a mature palate to appreciate it."

Eunha rolled her eyes. "Yeah, whatever. Just keep your bitter coffee, I'll be over here with my delicious hot cocoa." She took a sip of her drink, savoring the sweet chocolate flavor.
