Chapter 437: Comment
"Akira," I called out the name of the noble, and she appeared before us in casual clothing. Honestly, seeing her like this is a breath of fresh air.
"Please excuse my atti-"
"There is no need for apologizing for stuff like this, you know?" I said, interrupting her. "Can you please take us home? Sorry, we are being so abrupt about it."
"Why not just walk, Kazu-kun?" Ai asked, holding onto my arm. Her eyes glanced over to Akira, and she stuck closer to me. Is she showing off how close she and I are? Looks like it.
"No, I don't think I am in the mood for walking all the way back today," I said, patting her head. "Can you please take us back home?"
"As you wish, Kazuki-sama," Akira said, bowing her head and closing her eyes. Within a moment, we were back at our apartment.
I went over to the couch with Ai still sticking close to me and sat down. Bobbing my head back at the edge of the couch, I looked up at the ceiling. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I do need to make sure there isn't any tension between the two of them. I glanced at Ai, seeing her snuggling closer to me and having a smug smile on her face with her eyes set on Akira.
"Is something wrong, Ai-sama?" Akira broke the silence between them and walked over in front of us. "You have been glancing at me with odd gazes ever since I appeared. Did I do something to offend you?"
Ai stayed quiet for a moment and looked at me with a little uncertain look on her face. I gave her a smile and nodded my head, indicating that it would be right for her to talk about this. "I know what you and Kazu-kun do every morning," she said, and Akira's eyes widened. She immediately bowed down to a perfect ninety degrees.
"I am extremely sorry, Ai-sama. I absolutely didn't mean to cross any boundaries," Akira said, not lifting her head in the slightest. "It is just that Kazuki-sama had to drink my blood in that dire situation, or he would have lost his life, which is why he has gained a certain level of affinity to my blood. I understand how you feel towards him, but I beg of you not to misunderstand anything. Not even in my entire life will I have any ulterior intentions with Kazuki-sama. I respect him as my master, and that is all. Please forgive me for such rudeness."
Her voice was full of respect but also had a hint of fear in it. "If my apologizing is not enough, I would accept any and all punishment you deem I am worthy of," she said, her voice trembling a little. Why is she replying in that fashion? I don't understand what was going on.
My eyes landed on Ai, and I couldn't see anything different about her aura. Her eyes were not glowing, nor was she letting off any bloodlust. Yet, Akira, though not a lot but was trembling in fear. I understand how she would like to keep a respectful relationship between her and us, but this reaction was a bit odd. However, this fear she was showing was different; it felt less due to just the current circumstances.
"Akira," Ai said, standing before her and grabbing her shoulders. She slowly made Akira lift her head, and I could clearly see the scared look in her eyes. "Thank you."
"Huh?" She was taken aback by the sudden display of gratitude. Talk about stealing my lines.
"You are the reason why both Kazu-kun and I are safe and sound. If it hadn't been for you, there was no way we both could have escaped that hellish place in one piece," she said and hugged Akira. "Thank you so much for being there."
"Wait, so you mean…" The realization just hit me, and I glanced at Akira. Now that I think about it, I was so happy to see Ai, I absolutely forgot to ask how she even got out.
"Yes, Kazu-kun," Ai said, not letting go of us. "Akira was the one who found me and got me out of those restraints that bastard put me in. She was also the one who single-handedly protected me from the horde of those creeps rushing in."
"You knew…?" Akira said, bewildered by Ai's words.
"I may have been unconscious, but seeing that amount of blood in a room and you lying there in front of me. It doesn't take a genius to decipher what happened there. I was too desperate to see Kazu-kun at that time, so I forgot to say anything to you. So let me say this now," Ai said, putting some distance between her and Akira. "Thank you so much for putting your life on the line so many times to save me and Kazu-kun. Without you, there would have been we would have been alive. You are our saviour."
"Oh no, no, please don't say stuff like that, Ai-sama. I am merely a servant of Kazuki-sama. It is my duty to do everything in my power to keep you two alive. Your lives are far important than mine. Please don't thank me for such trifling matters," Akira said with her face turning a light red.
"Great, now we have three people in this house who don't have enough confidence in themselves or their feats," I said, getting off the couch and walking over to them.
"I think my thanks were also due," I said and lowered my head. "Thank you so much for saving us."
"No, no, no, Kazuki-sama shouldn't lower his head before me like this. Please raise your head," Akira said, scrambling over to my side, trying to get me to raise my head. "Please, you are embarrassing me. What kind of master bows to his servants?"
"This is a person bowing before his saviour," I corrected her. "And this person will not raise his head unless you accept our gratitude."
"Okay, okay, okay!" Akira said in a louder tone, and I raised my head to see little tears building up in her eyes. "I…I…accept your gratitude…" she said in a small voice. Honestly, it was adorable seeing her act so out of character right now. Though it still built up some worries in my mind. I'll have to ask her later.
"That's more like it," I said, smiling at her her and tears started falling down her face.
"Gosh, both of you have showered me with so much respect I can't even elaborate in words how happy I feel," she said, wiping her tears. "I'm sorry for showing such a shabby side to both of you. I will stop immediately."
Akira tried to wipe her tears and stop crying, but the tears didn't stop; she got more frantic trying to stop her tears from falling and wiped more aggressively. Ai walked towards her and grabbed her arms, pulling her in a hug. Her face started to melt under those tears. "I don't deserve to be this happy. I am just a mere servant."
"Says who?" Ai said and rubbing Akira's back. "Everyone deserves to be happy, you know. Especially someone like you, so don't say sad things like that."
I decided not to join in the hug and stood by with a massive smile on my face. The sight before me was so precious I thought even trying to approach it would be tainting its purity. Akira was crying, but she had the biggest smile on her face we have ever seen. The noble I thought was expressionless and stoic twenty-four seven was now nothing like when we first ever met her.
"But Kazu-kun is mine, okay? I know he is the most amazing man to ever exist, but you are not allowed to fall in love with him. That is an order," Ai said in a pseudo-serious tone, and Akira let out a little chuckle.
"As you wish, Ai-sama. I will not fall in love with Kazuki-sama," she replied. "He is exclusively for Ai-sama."
"Good, I am liking you even more now," Ai said in a proud tone. "Also, about the morning blood things. I understand why he needs to do it, but no more doing it behind my back. I hate being excluded from things that especially include Kazu-kun. I was actually angry at first, you know? It's like you both can't trust me enough to tell me stuff like this. It is absolutely important for Kazu-kun's proper development."
"As you wish, Ai-sama will not be left in the dark about any of it ever again. Kindly allow me to apologize for earlier," Akira said and stopped crying. She stepped out of the hug and bowed her head in front of us. "Thank you so much for showering me with this much love. I will do everything in my power to be of at utmost service to both Kazuki-sama and Ai-sama. I, Tatara Akira, will again pledge my life to serving both of you."
