Chapter 7: Dinner Conversation
The soft hum of the restaurant surrounded them as they sat at a small, intimate table for two, far from the bustling streets. The candlelight between them cast gentle shadows on Claire's face, giving her a somewhat mysterious expression. Min-jae, on the other hand, looked nervous, fiddling with his napkin, betraying his unease. He had spent the entire day trying to find a way to talk to her, and now that the moment had finally come, his heart was racing, unsure of what he might say.
"Claire," Min-jae started, his voice hesitant, "I wanted to talk. I need to know what's going on. Why did you act like that at the celebration? You didn't have to... embarrass me like that."
Claire raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp as she leaned back in her chair, and a small, enigmatic smile appeared on her lips. "Embarrass you?" she repeated in a mix of French and Korean. "Chérie, I didn't 'embarrass' you, I just returned the favor." She paused. She looked at him with a sarcastic smile. "Honestly, walking around Korea after that wasn't easy. But... I must admit, I kind of enjoyed it. It felt good to get back at you for what you did to me at the police station."
Min-jae blinked in surprise, unsure how to respond. He thought she might be teasing him, but he couldn't be sure. He opened his mouth, but Claire stopped him with a raised hand.
"Let me finish," she said, her tone now slightly challenging. "That's why I'm here, in Korea. I don't plan to stay long. I just want to enjoy myself. And, you know, on my bucket list, I have finding a handsome Korean guy to spend the night with. To try it out."
Min-jae was left speechless. He wasn't used to this level of openness, especially not with her saying it all so shamelessly. He stared at her, trying to mask his shock. Still, something inside him couldn't help but ask: "Have you already found that Korean guy?"
"Yes," Claire answered calmly, looking him straight in the eye. "I found him. You."
Min-jae was stunned. He didn't know what to say. Claire watched him, her lips curling into a small smile.
"Look," she continued, "if you want, we can spend one night together. For me, everything is much more relaxed than in your culture, and what you guys consider taboo is completely normal for us. I don't have any feelings for you, and that's even better. If you want, we can sleep together, and tomorrow we'll just go our separate ways."
Min-jae was paralyzed. He couldn't understand how direct and unbelievably open she was. Yet, he found himself asking the question in his mind: should he reject her in this moment, because he respected every woman? Or should he agree, because he desperately craved her and all those curves?
