Chapter 35: Biochemical Weapon
Kaden learned through the interrogation of Gray that Cornelia had sent three people to the Western Territory: besides Gray and Selena, there was another named Flavia.
She was a pregnant woman who tragically died with her unborn child due to complications during childbirth. Luckily, she encountered Cornelia, who saved her.
The cost was that the child in her belly would never be born, and since then she had to carry the bulge forever.
Surprisingly, after being reborn, Flavia acquired a miraculous ability — her saliva could cause stomach pain and diarrhea, hence she was always cautious while eating, avoiding sharing meals with others.
Previously in New Moon Land, Cornelia used her saliva to inflict mass diarrhea on thousands of enemy troops, stripping them of their combat capabilities.
This time, Flavia and Selena came to Golden Valley, Flavia was responsible for collecting saliva, and Selena discreetly poured it into the honey wine barrels meant for the officers to drink.
After completing the task, Selena told Flavia she was going to see an old friend and asked Flavia to return to Rune City first. About half a day later, Selena came back, acting as if nothing had happened.
Then, the two spent their time at an inn in the city. They did not know any nobles in the city, and the communication had been made through Gray to ensure their safety.
However, by doing so, their information became less effective, especially after losing Gray. By the time they heard news of the Black Hand's defeat, Ireya's cavalry had already taken over Rune City and started rigorous checks on the people entering and leaving the city.
Thus, Selena and Flavia were trapped in the city, and the city's nobles even sent guards to search for them house by house.
Selena was skilled in concealment, being an assassin, but Flavia was problematic; except for her ability to cast curses, she was no different from a regular person, and she was a pregnant woman, drawing attention.
Selena led her to evade and hide for several days in the city, playing cat and mouse with the guards. Though they hadn't been caught yet, Flavia's body was starting to suffer.
Leaning against a barn wall, Flavia said to Selena ahead, "You should go."
"We're companions, I can't leave you behind," Selena stopped and replied.
"I can't walk anymore."
"Then let's rest here for a while."
Flavia was aware of her situation and shook her head, "They're after me; they won't stop until they've caught me."
"Damn it, how did they know about you, and even know we're in Rune City?" Selena said angrily.
"It doesn't matter thinking about that now," Flavia replied, "I'm not going to get away, but you can. You need to leave Rune City alive and report what's happened here to Priest of Cornelia."
Flavia paused and added, "Also, be careful of Gray; if you encounter him on your way..."
Selena wanted to say more, but just then, from the other side of the street came the sound of hurried footsteps.
Selena cursed under her breath, glanced at Flavia, who waved her hand, "You better go before you get caught too."
Upon hearing this, Selena could only climb up the barn, stepping onto a wooden post, then leaping up to latch onto the windowsill of a nearby house.
She climbed along the windowsill, twisted her waist to reach the rooftop, moving like a sly cat, making no noise, she disappeared onto the roof.
By that time, the guards arrived at the barn and surrounded Flavia.
Flavia did not resist, letting the guards capture her.
However, they seemed to fear her somewhat, not daring to touch her, instead using their swords and spears to direct her to the headquarters.
A separate cell had already been prepared for her there.
Flavia didn't stay in the cell long when two white creatures appeared before her.
Not until the white creatures came close did Flavia realize they were actually two people, both wearing peculiar suits.
One man spoke, "Are you sure what we're doing here will pass the scrutiny of the Ethics Committee?"
Kaden glanced at Liu Xuebin, "You mentioned you were interested in the parasites in her body and wanted to take samples for research; besides, here on Bratis Continent, there's no such Ethics Committee."
"So... do you think if I just go over and ask her for some saliva, she'd agree?"
Liu Xuebin was a bit apprehensive; as a vet, he was used to dealing with pet owners, and he had decent communication skills.
But facing a supernatural being, he couldn't help but feel nervous.
In contrast, Kaden was much calmer. Ever since Taylor opened the door for her, exposing her to the harsh reality behind it, she knew of the existence of faith powers and had witnessed them.
In fact, the reason she and Liu Xuebin could come to this plane was thanks to faith power.
The Third Era had spent over a century researching faith, largely by decoding and reinterpreting the faith technology left by 'interdimensional travelers.'
Yet even on Earth, some exceptionally gifted individuals have independently discovered methods to utilize faith, such as Zhang Daoling.
So it was entirely plausible that in another realm, some natives stumbled upon rudimentary ways to gather and utilize faith.
Moreover, according to Gray's description, the Priest of Cornelia's use of faith was extremely primitive and crude, far inferior to the Third Era.
Coupled with the modern firearms being transported to Bratis Continent, Kaden was not overly worried about the Life Church or its priests.
However, dealing with Flavia, a biological weapon, required caution.
But before that, Kaden planned to use the truth serum on Flavia to see if any useful information could be extracted from her.
Half an hour later, Kaden and Liu Xuebin emerged from the cell, removing their protective suits and burning them immediately, then disinfecting themselves with high-concentration alcohol.
Liu Xuebin saw Kaden preparing to leave and stopped her, "Wait, can I ask what you plan to do with her?"
Kaden responded, "She's a bioweapon, extremely dangerous, so the safest approach is to destroy her."
"But she said during the interrogation, she doesn't want to hurt anyone, nor does she want to become like this," Liu Xuebin insisted.
"What exactly are you implying?" Kaden asked.
"Maybe we could keep her?" Liu Xuebin ventured.
Kaden did not argue, but smiled, "That's beyond my jurisdiction; let's wait for Prophet Merlin to return and make the decision."
