Work Prophet

Chapter 21: Day Off Today

Kaden looked into the girl's eyes and did not see a trace of falsehood or deceit.

Also, over the past month, Kaden had come to understand Ireya's character, realizing that this Divine Chosen King is a person with a very simple mind, kind to the point of being somewhat unsuitable to be the founding emperor.

However, Kaden had to admit that Miss Rabbit was indeed the most suitable queen for the Double Rest Sect, and that other nobles likely wouldn't be so accommodating to divine power.

Nevertheless, to be cautious, Kaden took some time to return to the Green Field.

She went straight to the Double Rest Sect's temple, but the Sabbath guarding the temple told her it was not open to the public today.

The Double Rest Sect's temple, of course, follows the sect's precepts, receiving believers only five days a week, leaving two days for rest.

However, to make it convenient for believers to come for pilgrimage during their free time, it is usually open on Saturdays and Sundays, Kaden discussed with the elderly Sabbath sunbathing at the door.

"I'm a new servant from the Divine Country and have important matters that require our Lord's oracle. Can I go in for a bit? Don't worry, I'll come out quickly and won't trouble you to accompany me."

The elderly Sabbath glanced at Kaden, then pointed to a wooden sign hanging on the pillar beside him.

Kaden followed his finger to see that it read — Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, open on other days.

Kaden looked around, seeing no one paying attention, and pulled a gold coin from her pocket, but didn't hold it steady, and it fell to the ground.

That gold coin, as fate would have it, rolled right to the old Sabbath's feet, whose originally half-closed eyes suddenly brightened.

He extended a foot to stop the coin, then bent down to pick it up, blew off the dust, and asked Kaden.

"Is this your gold coin?"

Kaden shook her head, "I did not drop a gold coin."

The old Sabbath, hearing this, contentedly slipped the gold coin into his purse.

Kaden asked, "Can I go in now?"

The old Sabbath said solemnly, "Since you are a servant from the Divine Country, you should even more adhere to the precepts of the Double Rest Sect to set an example for others."

Kaden found his words amusing.

Evidently, even the elite of Wall Street face challenges when it comes to dealing with unreasonable village elders.

Also, she had just admitted she didn't drop the gold coin, and couldn't reclaim it, resigning herself to bad luck, ready to leave.

But after taking a few steps, Kaden heard the old Sabbath's voice again, "Do you want guidance from our Lord on Saturday?"

"That's right." Kaden paused, "But since you won't let me in, I'll return tomorrow, it's Thursday then, and presumably, it's not a rest day."

The old Sabbath nodded, "Certainly, rest shouldn't be reduced, and the work must be done properly, as Prophet Merlin has always taught. But..."

He changed his tone, "Even if you come tomorrow, you won't receive our Lord's guidance."

"Why?" Kaden frowned.

"Because there are many who, in their inner confusion, seek guidance from our Lord, and our Lord is also busy on Saturdays, and can't point out the way to all of you continuously," the old Sabbath explained, "We must follow a first come, first served principle, right?"

"How many are ahead of me, and when will it be my turn?" Kaden's frown deepened.

"Let me see." The old Sabbath pulled out a small notebook from somewhere, flipped through over twenty pages, and then said, "If you register with me now, it will probably be your turn in about fourteen days."

"Fourteen days? Are you serious?!" Kaden blurted out.

"As I said, many desire guidance for Saturday, and haven't you heard? There is a war about to start again, and more people are registering at the temple."

Kaden was speechless because she knew the old Sabbath spoke the truth, with some helplessness she said, "Then please put my name down."

"There is another option," the old Sabbath said slowly, "If you can obtain Prophet Merlin's approval, you can cut in line to get guidance ahead of time, if your matter is truly as important as you say."

Kaden raised an eyebrow but eventually shook her head.

"Or with approval from the leader monk of any of the Preaching Institute, Black Dog Guards, Truth Bureau, Wealth Association, or Judgement Court."

Kaden was speechless, "Can't you say everything at once?"

The old Sabbath smiled, "I've said all I can, so, was your gold coin well spent or not?"

Kaden was already too tired to respond and simply walked away from the temple, pondering where she could get approval.

She first ruled out the Black Dog Guards and Judgement Court as the leaders there weren't easy to deal with.

Also, if she approached them, Li Yu would definitely know.

Next, Kaden crossed out the Preaching Institute from the list, leaving just the Truth Bureau and Wealth Association.

However, Kaden wasn't very familiar with these two places, having been in this universe for less than a month, spending most of her time learning the language with Clara.

It seemed the safest method was to honestly wait in line.

Thinking this, Kaden found a small tavern to have some food, while also gathering some information there.

While eating, she saw a carriage pass by outside; Kaden recognized it as belonging to the Arias family, apparently heading towards Teacup Castle.

Calmly, she finished the honey apple pie in front of her and stepped out to inquire, learning that it was one of Ireya's personal maids who came.

The latter was there to seek guidance from Saturday on behalf of Ireya.

Kaden wasn't surprised, as the war to reclaim the Golden Valley was about to commence, and coming to predict the outcome before setting out was a normal thing to do.

Simultaneously, Kaden saw an opportunity in this.

That maid named Ruby must have gotten Li Yu's approval; Kaden planned to hitch a ride with her, claiming she wanted to know whether the upcoming battle would go smoothly.

As Ireya's new advisor, she supposed the other side wouldn't refuse.

After making her decision, Kaden headed towards Teacup Castle, and as she expected, things went smoothly when Ruby recognized her and was pleasantly surprised, "Lord Kaden, you're here too?"

And upon meeting Ruby, Kaden greeted her with a genuine smile, "Had I known you would be here, I'd have hitched a ride with you instead of spending money to travel with the caravan."

Ruby nodded, "When I left, Lady Ireya mentioned you, saying you're a very wise person, almost as wise as she is, and we should all learn from you."
