Chapter 19: The New Advisor
"The Lion and the Rabbit" is a farce about how a mighty lion is outsmarted by a much weaker rabbit.
Timothy, truly a master of drama, was inspired by "Tom and Jerry". Instead of succumbing, he diligently strove for improvement, incorporating some cartoonish elements into the new play that had many guests laughing heartily.
Meanwhile, Kaden noticed Li Yu leaving midway, and quietly slipped out of the hall as well, hastily pursuing in the direction Li Yu had gone. However, after two blocks, Kaden lost sight of Li Yu.
By now, the sky was completely dark. Kaden stood on the roadside, hands on hips, with a slight frown.
At that moment, a voice came from behind her, "Are you looking for me?"
Kaden turned to see a figure in black, ghostly in the night.
A smile appeared on Kaden's face, "That's right."
"What do you want?" Li Yu asked.
"By my calculations, today should be Friday in another dimension, right? On Sunday, you have to report to the board, and I haven't graded you yet. This week's password is 'I love drinking coconut juice.' Please relay it to Director Taylor for me."
"Okay." Li Yu said before turning to leave, but was stopped by Kaden, "From 1 to 5, don't you want to know what score I gave you?"
"Scoring is your job; I have my own work," Li Yu said indifferently, "and no matter the score you give, I have no right to interfere."
"Don't say it like that, as if we're superior and subordinate," Kaden replied, "I'm here to assist you, remember?"
Seeing Li Yu remain noncommittal, Kaden continued, "Just the day before yesterday, I passed the T3 level exam in the Universal Language. I also gained a preliminary understanding of the Continent and our Church.
"I found the people you've reincarnated to be quite interesting, mostly ordinary folks, including a courier and a community security guard.
"Because they resonate well with the Double Rest Sect, making it easier to align with our doctrine."
"A wise move," Kaden agreed, paused, then continued, "This time, I gave you a 5. I'm strict, but you've done well recently. I've noticed you hastened the absorption of believers as per the board's requirements.
"We don't have much time to wait for Ireya, that native, to conquer the Continent so we can carry out our work more smoothly.
"Also, your idea about the electromagnetic hammer is quite good. It seems like you know how to create an icon. According to your estimate, how long will it take to unify the Continent?"
Li Yu said, "Two to three years."
"Hmm... that still feels a bit long."
"Is it? In the other dimension, it's just a year, and we still have over two years, right?"
"But we also have to consider the subsequent time needed for missionary work, don't we?" Kaden flashed her signature smile, "So how about a year? Didn't the Wing Tribe take less than a year to conquer this Continent?"
"They have wings."
"We have flintlock guns and Italian cannons. I've heard the discussions among other servants. They think the upcoming war will be easy."
"But even if the odds are high, we must proceed step by step. Moreover, our army only fights five days a week due to the Double Rest directive."
Li Yu was not a stranger to such conversations; in his previous jobs, these talks were constantly replayed.
Kaden shrugged, "So why did you insist on establishing the Double Rest Sect back then? It cost us nearly thirty percent in efficiency."
"I didn't know the board's plan then," Li Yu said, "unless you plan to abandon the Church I built and start anew; otherwise, it's best to respect the doctrine and laws of the Double Rest Sect, as it's our source of faith."
Kaden also knew that it was probably too late to start over, so she reluctantly nodded, "Alright, we won't touch the doctrine and laws; let's think of other ways to move the timeline forward."
"Also, I've now passed the language exam. I see the other transmigrators have jobs, so find me one too."
"What are your strengths?"
"Finance, journalism, election preparations... just give me a role. I only have one request: to be by Ireya's side. She'll be the protagonist of the upcoming war. By staying with her, I can keep abreast of the work progress."
After Kaden finished speaking, she looked for any sign of anger or displeasure on Li Yu's face but found nothing.
Li Yu replied promptly, "Sure, I can recommend you to her as an advisor. Anything else?"
"Nope."
Kaden watched as Li Yu's figure faded back into the darkness, her eyes reflecting a thoughtful expression.
This Prophet of the Double Rest Sect seemed to have accepted his current situation and chose to collaborate with the board to save humanity together.
Indeed, it's a choice any rational person would make.
But Taylor sent her here to supervise Li Yu because she never easily trusts anyone.
Kaden licked her lips. No matter what Li Yu's true thoughts were, as long as he was under the board's control, steadily advancing their plan, that was enough.
Moreover, the board would continue sending more people to Bratis, initially some professionals, all under her command.
Once her personnel outnumbered Li Yu's, she could gradually seize control of the Double Rest Sect.
She might not match Li Yu in trickery, but politics was her forte.
Kaden didn't linger on the street for long and soon returned to the hall, her steps light and seemingly in good spirits.
In the following days, Li Yu did not appear in Bratis, but he must have spoken with Ireya before leaving because, the next day, Ireya invited Kaden to become her new advisor.
Kaden gladly accepted, and on her first day, she accompanied Ireya to a military meeting.
This meeting focused on how to assist the Campbell Family in reclaiming the land east of Golden Valley.
Lilania and Pibo also stayed after attending Ireya's coronation, all for this matter.
Since the event a year ago, they had both become believers of Saturday's faith, and when Miss Rabbit was crowned as queen, they were the first to support her.
In return, the Lady promised to help them reclaim the entirety of Golden Valley and continue entrusting its management to the Campbell Family.
