Work Prophet

Chapter 17: Chosen by Destiny

The crowd was buzzing with discussions, and Li Yu had to tap the floor with the scepter to bring silence back to the hall.

"To end this war and bring peace to the continent, we need more than just maintaining our faith in our Lord Saturday. We need a king. He must be devout, exceptionally brave, and possess a loving heart.

"To select this person, I have brought a hammer from the Divine Country."

"Anyone who can lift this hammer will be acknowledged by Saturday as the new ruler of Bratis Continent."

As Li Yu finished his last word, the hall burst into an uproar once more.

The folks initially thought they were just attending Ireya's coronation ceremony, but from Li Yu's words, they realized the king was to be chosen on the spot.

The crowd couldn't believe their ears. Someone asked, "If I can pick up that iron hammer, can I become the new king of Bratis Continent too?"

Li Yu nodded, "Whoever can lift that hammer will prove he is destined by fate."

This time the crowd was thoroughly ignited, with countless people feeling a surge of excitement from within.

This time, everyone had a chance to become king!

Even though many felt they didn't meet the three requirements, they still wished to try, hoping that by a stroke of luck, they might lift that hammer and ascend in one step.

However, many had already tried to touch the hammer before Li Yu's arrival, and none succeeded in lifting it.

But with the temptation of the throne, even more people were ready to try again.

Seeing this, Li Yu said, "Anyone who thinks they can bear this responsibility can come before me."

As his words fell, the gaze of everyone in the hall became even more intense, yet no one stepped forward.

The nobles looked at one another, and none moved their feet.

Knowing what they were concerned about, Li Yu added, "You need not worry. This is the will of our Lord Saturday, and Ireya also agrees. She is not here right now because she wants you to try first."

Li Yu then glanced at the people from the Golden Valley standing aside in the hall, "This selection doesn't discriminate between commoners or nobles. Even if you're not from the Western Territory, it doesn't matter as long as you're a follower of Saturday."

The commotion among the crowd grew even louder because Li Yu's conditions were so lenient, as if anyone who had hands could participate.

Pibo turned to a knight behind him and said, "Ricardo, you are the strongest among us. Since Prophet Merlin said so, go and give it a try on our behalf."

The knight named Ricardo was a little tempted, but he respectfully replied, "Since it's a selection for the king, none of us may fit as well as you. It should be you."

Pibo shook his head, "I have no interest in being king, only hoping to reclaim the Campbell family's land within my lifetime. If you lift that hammer, just remember to fulfill this wish for me."

Ricardo turned to face Lilania.

She quietly held her husband's hand and softly said to Ricardo, "You heard Pibo. Go ahead, don't keep Prophet Merlin waiting."

Ricardo then stood up and walked over to Li Yu.

He first extended his left hand, bowed respectfully to Li Yu, then grasped the hammer, exerting his wrist forcefully, but found the hammer unmoved as if it was rooted to the table.

Ricardo couldn't help but blush as he sheepishly looked at Li Yu.

The Prophet of the Double Rest Sect said, "It's okay, if you weren't ready the first time, you can try again."

Upon hearing this, Ricardo was delighted. This time, he took off his gloves, loosened his wrists and fingers, and faced the hammer like it was a formidable enemy.

As he grasped the hammer again, not just his wrist but his legs, waist, abdomen, and arms all exerted force, with veins popping out on his forehead like little worms.

But the result was no different from the first time; regardless of how much strength Ricardo mustered, he still couldn't lift the hammer.

Finally, the knight had to give up, a look of disappointment flashing across his face as he released his grip, took two steps back, and said, "It seems I am not the one our Lord Saturday is looking for."

After speaking, he bowed again and returned to his position behind Pibo.

Seeing someone take the lead eased the concerns of others, and soon another person stepped forward, this time a lord from the Western Territory.

His nickname was Hercules, renowned for his strength since childhood. In the previous battle with Tristan, he had shown exceptional bravery, at least considering himself capable of meeting the requirement for valiance.

His devotion to Saturday was no less, although the requirement for a loving heart was unclear; he wasn't sure if he qualified.

However, he didn't bother overthinking and directly walked up to the iron table, gripping the hammer's handle.

Many nobles in the hall recognized him and knew his great strength. Seeing him step forward made them believe there was hope.

But Hercules disappointed them, or rather gave others hope, as despite trying three times with a flushed face, he failed to lift the hammer, ultimately having to give up reluctantly.

Yet this did not dampen the enthusiasm in the hall; seeing two potential contenders gone, the remaining participants grew even more excited.

This time, without needing further encouragement from Li Yu, everyone quickly lined up, eager to try lifting the hammer.

In the end, even attendants, warriors, cooks, and even coachmen heard the news and came to try their luck.

And true to his earlier promise, Li Yu did not turn anyone away.

But from morning until dusk, thousands of people attempted to lift the hammer, yet none succeeded in lifting it from the table.

Thus, more people began suspecting that the hammer was connected to the table.

It wasn't until the last person gave up that Ireya finally entered the hall.

The crowd made way for the girl, allowing her to walk up to Li Yu.

Ireya was also a bit nervous, knowing what had transpired inside despite not entering earlier.

That seemingly lightweight hammer had become an insurmountable challenge for everyone.

Miss Rabbit herself was not particularly strong; she was well aware of her shallow victory in the duel arena, entirely reliant on the Holy Artifact Li Yu gave her to dominate the arena.

Although the Prophet of the Double Rest Sect had, as usual, shared the method to lift the hammer in advance, she was still worried about messing up.

However, as she followed Li Yu's instructions, aligning her left thumb with the groove in the center of the hammer, a miracle occurred, and the girl effortlessly lifted the hammer that no one else could move from the table.
