Chapter 11: Truth-telling Pills
Li Yu brought Kaden to Clara, letting her first learn the Universal Language of the Continent with Clara.
Kaden herself was already a genius in languages, having mastered seven languages on Earth, so learning one more was not difficult for her.
Furthermore, she planned to take this opportunity to gather information on the politics, economy, and culture of the new world to provide a basis for decision-making in her subsequent actions.
When Niu Xiangui and other transmigrators heard a newcomer had arrived, some people even came specifically to watch.
Kaden spoke with them in Chinese, and no one could tell she was actually a foreigner.
Moreover, Kaden's attitude was very pleasant, without showing any arrogance from her former Wall Street elite background, she answered almost all questions.
Niu Xiangui asked about her previous job, and Kaden replied that she was a journalist.
Then she noticed a peculiar look in Niu Xiangui's eyes as he looked at her.
"Is there a problem?" Kaden asked.
"No, no." Niu Xiangui quickly shook his head, "Being a journalist is good, it's good because..."
Niu Xiangui struggled for a long time but couldn't think of why being a journalist was good, and in the end, he could only forcibly change the subject, "Did you also die from overwork?"
"No, I have a hereditary disease," Kaden said, somewhat surprised, glancing at the others, "Did you all die from overwork?"
"Not exactly," Niu Xiangui said, "Like, Lao Zhu was stabbed to death while acting bravely, but more or less, our deaths are related to work."
"Oh... that's really unfortunate, health should always come first."
"But those bosses will never understand this truth." Niu Xiangui sneered, "After all, our health has nothing to do with them.
"They only care about performance, one indicator after another, and regrettably, there's nothing on the other side to restrain them. But it's different in Bulati, we have the Double Rest Sect."
"Sorry, I'm new here, is our Church very powerful here?" Kaden asked.
"That's right," Liu Xuebin chimed in, "Especially in the Western territories, no church can match us, well, maybe there was one before, a local sect called the Silver Moon Church that was quite powerful.
"But it's now in pieces, and it's hard to find followers of the Silver Moon Goddess here, the High Priest of the Silver Moon Church is now also a student of Prophet Merlin."
"Thanks to Saturday and Prophet Merlin, everyone here is forced to have double rest days, and those noble lords fear us too, they are most afraid now of the judges of the Judgement Court appearing in their territories."
"That's quite nice," Kaden chimed in.
"Yeah, if I weren't running several bathhouses and couldn't spare the time, I'd want to join the Judgement Court too," Niu Xiangui said.
"There's nothing more satisfying in this world than investigating overwork."
......
Kaden later asked Niu Xiangui and others some more questions and planned to watch a movie together on the weekend.
Meanwhile, Li Yu also returned to the City Lord Mansion.
Miss Rabbit was currently busy adjudicating a case involving two nobles, a Knight accused his Lord's youngest son of insulting his wife while he was not home.
The Lord's youngest son insisted that it was the Knight's wife who seduced him first, each holding fast to their story, bringing the dispute to Ireya.
After hearing both statements, the young girl found it a bit tricky, mainly because neither side had evidence and both adamantly insisted they were telling the truth, and the other was lying.
They even started fighting in front of Miss Rabbit, but were quickly separated by the guards, still glaring angrily at each other.
The Lady couldn't discern who was guilty, and was considering holding a trial by combat, a tradition on Bratis Continent.
At this moment, she noticed a familiar figure at the door, her eyes brightened, "Prophet Merlin, when did you return?"
"I came right after I finished my tasks, I've been here for a while." Li Yu said.
Both nobles quickly saluted upon seeing Li Yu, and did not pursue the matter further.
"So you've heard their testimonies, do you have any method to determine who's lying?"
Li Yu nodded, "Of course, I can give each of them a Truth-telling Pill, the person lying will die within four days after taking the pill, but the truthful one will survive."
After speaking, Li Yu turned to the two nobles, "Are you willing to take the Truth-telling Pills?"
"I am!" the Knight said without hesitation.
The other hesitated but also said, "I can take it too, I trust that our master, Saturday, will give us a fair result.
Upon hearing this, Li Yu called over Donia, whispered a few words in her ear, and she nodded before leaving quickly.
She returned ten minutes later, walked over to the two nobles, extended her hand, and upon her palm were two pink pills.
Each of the two took a pill and swallowed it.
Donia then made them open their mouths and inspected their oral cavities to ensure that no one pretended to swallow and then spit it out later.
Thankfully, no one did so.
After both left, Miss Rabbit immediately beamed, "You have such an amazing thing, why didn't you bring it out sooner? We wouldn't have had to worry about prisoners lying during interrogations."
"I don't have such a pill," Li Yu said candidly, "These are just regular vitamins."
Miss Rabbit had been around Li Yu long enough to know what vitamins were, and was taken aback, "Huh?"
Li Yu said, "Risking one's life over such matters isn't worth it. If someone was lying, they should come to me and confess within four days."
"And what if no one comes to find you?" Ireya asked.
"Then it would mean both are speaking the truth."
"How is that possible?" the Lady asked in surprise.
"It is possible if the Knight's wife and the Lord's youngest son were caught in an affair and had no choice but to lie to her husband, then what they both say is what they genuinely believe to be the truth."
"Makes sense, why didn't I think of that!" Miss Rabbit realized, "This method is great, it can reveal who's lying and avoid the bloodshed of a duel."
Donia also praised, "In this world, nothing can be too difficult for you, Prophet."
Li Yu, however, shook his head, "There are many things that trouble me."
However, neither Donia nor Ireya took these words seriously, thinking Li Yu said them only out of modesty.
Especially Ireya, who had just solved one tricky matter, but upon thinking of another problem, couldn't help but frown again.
