Chapter 3: chapter 3

Milo went to work preparing his ingredients for his assigned dishes. He checked his phone three hours and forty two minutes before he'd receive his word. He'd have to make sure he didn't have anything cooking when he disappeared.

His assigned meal today was a braised beef roast. He decided to do it a bit extra since he had some time and decided to use French onion soup as his braising liquid

"Onions, a little garlic, salt, pepper, beef stock, flour, butter..." Milo starts checking that he had everything as he rolls a cart with his ingredients to the stove pulling out a heavy bottomed stock pot to caramelize the onions to start.

As the onions started he started heating up a cast iron dutch oven pouring a little olive oil in the bottom to get hot. Once the oil was rippling he laid the roast in with a pair of tongs to sear it.

As he seared one side he checked his onions and stirred them. Milo returned his attention to the roast flipping it over to sear the other side. He would continue going back and forth between the two turning the fire off on the roast after it was completely seared. He'd finish it by sprinkling some salt and pepper on it and putting some sliced new potatoes in and putting the lid on it turning his attention back to the caramelizing onions

Once caramelized properly he started adding a little garlic to saute in and butter. He'd add flour and create a roux once that was ready he added his beef stock and stirred until thickened adding a little salt and pepper and turning off the French onion soup.

"Ok. One hour twenty-seven minutes until it's time for my Word" Milo says checking his watch before removing the lid on the dutch oven and letting the steam dissipate

He poured the French onion soup over the roast and replaced the lid and transferred the cast iron to the oven to slowly cook.

Next he would begin to clean up. this took him about an hour. He had 23 minutes remaining before Verbum Initium.
