Chapter 137: After the War
The retreat bombardment by the Civilization Devourers lasted for three days, and under the powerful fire of the World Fortress, all major fortresses of the Eternal Dark World were destroyed.
Of course, this was done with the deliberate indulgence of the World Guardian.
Due to the timely evacuation orders from the General Command, the giant fortress of the Eternal Dark World turned into an empty shell six hours after the bombardment began.
It apparently wasn't worth intercepting the attack from the World Fortress with these empty shells.
"Report to headquarters, the World Fortress has completed its leap. Report to headquarters, the World Fortress has completed its leap."
Listening to the report from scouts in the Star Realm, all the commanders at the General Command felt a mix of relief and... shame.
The World Fortress of the Civilization Devourers had leapt right within their observable range, but they lacked the capability to strike it, only watching it leisurely enter the Endless Dimension.
This was a huge shame for the Eye Demon Civilization and even for the Wizard Alliance.
The commanders remained silent, and the conference hall was as quiet as it had been for the past four-plus months.
They didn't know what to say.
The Eternal Dark World was indeed held, but it had nothing to do with them.
Their victory came from the battles by the high command, and they merely managed to drag the time until the high-level combats concluded.
"Let's tally the losses," the Eye Demon Commander was the first to speak, "and arrange a feast to let the soldiers blow off some steam."
"Yes, sir."
The Eye Demon Commander looked at the many Wizards Alliance commanders.
"This war, you all played a major role; I extend my gratitude on behalf of the Eye Demon Clan."
As he spoke, the Eye Demon Commander spread his tentacles and closed his eyes slightly. In Eye Demon etiquette, this signified respect.
"Duty-bound, you needn't say more," the Wizard Commander responded with a Wizard's Salute. "The merit of this war lies with those many soldiers who either sacrificed or survived.
We are just a bunch of smooth talkers, hardly worthy of claiming glorious credit.
If we must discuss merit, our contributions don't measure up to that of the young wizard named Gao Wen."
Other commanders replied with their civilizational etiquettes, even the Abyss Demon Commander did likewise.
The Abyss Demons have many traits: warlike, cunning, ruthless... yet stupidity isn't one of them.
"Speaking of which, Wizard, I'm planning to award the young wizard named Gao Wen and his attendant with an honor. I wonder if the Wizard Civilization has..."
"He deserves it," the Wizard Commander replied. "Upon returning to the Wizard Civilization, he will receive further commendation.
This era always needs brave ones."
…
"Is it over?"
In the cat-eared cave, Gao Wen listened to the command's announcement, feeling like he was in a dream.
These days he roamed the battlefield, constantly crossing paths with life and death, and now with the abrupt end of the war, he felt an unreal sensation.
He was greatly afraid it was just a hallucination created by excessive stress, merely awaiting him to walk out of the cave, only to be burnt to ashes by a Furnace Man or Titan weapon.
"Hey, boss, why are you zoning out?"
Compared to Gao Wen's complex emotions, Asu's feelings were much simpler.
He could live a little longer.
"Not a hallucination?" Gao Wen muttered somewhat dazedly.
"Of course, not a hallucination," Asu laughed aloud. "This war is concluded, we've survived another battle!"
Gao Wen leaned against the cave wall, exhaling a long breath.
He pulled out a cigarette with blue stripes from his pocket, its interior contained calming agents to help wizards quickly settle their minds.
During the war, Gao Wen never used it, as he felt it made him lose the sense of danger.
But now with the temporary end of the war, indulging in a bit wouldn't matter.
Lighting it, taking a deep inhalation, Gao Wen slowly walked out of the cat-eared cave, murmuring to the sky, "Survived another war... surely wasn't easy.
Damn, I'm filing a back-duty report when I get back! No one can stop me this time!"
Even as he spoke, Gao Wen himself didn't notice that a slight smile had crept onto his lips.
The smile wasn't of relief, but rather of… reminiscing.
Buzz!
A communication notification sounded in Gao Wen's ear.
With a thought, a message from the General Command appeared before him.
[Wizard Gao Wen, please arrive at the Central Sky Island by noon tomorrow. Due to your outstanding performance in the war, the Eye Demon Civilization will award you.]
"Hey, boss, these Eye Demons want to decorate me."
As soon as Gao Wen finished reading the message, Asu's boisterous voice sounded in his ear.
He waved his hand, signaling him not to get too excited.
"Me too, tomorrow at noon, this timing is a bit tight, huh."
"No worries, we'll just hurry up..."
Asu's words suddenly stopped, his ears twitched as he sharply looked to the sky, only to see a small dot-like shadow in the sky continuously enlarging.
It was a high-speed logistics AAirship.
This type of AAirship, within the world's interior, can accelerate to one-tenth the speed of light and belongs to the fastest category of intra-world transportation devices.
From the AAirship, a team of Eye Demons with golden rings on their tentacles slowly walked out.
They extended their tentacles towards Gao Wen, and an Eye Demon who was evidently the captain spoke softly, "Lord Gao Wen, we hope you have no other matters. We have been ordered by the command center to escort you to the Central Sky Island."
Gao Wen made a gesture to Asu, his voice carrying a touch of casual serenity.
"It seems the command center is quite considerate."
...
Wizard Dimension, City of Eternal Truth.
"The final piece of the puzzle has already been assembled."
In the council hall, Richard's gaze swept over the dominators by the round table, his voice terrifyingly serious.
"The entire community's civilization has already joined the Wizard Alliance, it's time to bring our attack plan onto the agenda."
"Progress on the Dominator Evolution Potion is going well," Beelzebub spoke, "although the price is somewhat high and the preparation is a bit troublesome, the Dominator Evolution Potion is already completed.
I've been recently conducting breaking limit experiments.
If we succeed, heh heh. Then everyone present is likely to enjoy the benefits."
Hearing this news, although the dominators by the round table showed no loss of composure, their hearts were surely stirred.
The Dominator Evolution Potion, such a near-fanciful item, has actually appeared in reality.
"Not entirely." Richard also revealed a slight smile, "For those of us who chose Physique Evolution, we don't gain much profit."
Beelzebub laughed heartily, "Haha, perhaps the next time you explore the Endless Dimension, you might find another dimension that could aid soul evolution."
"I'd rather not," Richard slightly shook his head, "everything bestowed by destiny comes with a hidden price; the fact we can obtain these things only indicates that creature's terrifying strength."
After speaking, Richard looked towards the Alchemy Crown Throne.
"You should have seen this Eternal Dark World's war report, right Alchemy?"
"I've seen it," the Alchemy Crown Throne nodded slightly. "The Tesla Research Institute has already directed all efforts towards the development of the World Fortress. We have previous experience with the World Ring, so I think the World Fortress technology will soon see progress."
"If help is needed, do state it promptly," Richard said earnestly, "the suppression power of the World Fortress is crucial for us."
"Speaking of the World Fortress, we have a technology that you might be able to use," Curse Demon Emperor Ye Feng suddenly spoke up, "I believe everyone is clear on where our mother world is.
This testing ground still contains terrifying weapons left by the Predecessor Civilization Alliance.
During our development of the ruins, we found an incomplete technology that can replace World Will with the Power of Mystery.
It was later completed initially by the first Curse Demon Emperor, followed by my teacher, and finally by my brothers and me."
"Replace World Will with the Power of Mystery?"
Hearing this, the dominators present were taken aback. They were experienced and knowledgeable, but they had never heard of the technology Ye Feng mentioned.
Not only had they not heard of it, they had not even imagined it.
What kind of concept is World Will? Can that be replaced too?
"Yes, in fact, our mother world's World Will was crafted by us using the Power of Mystery," Ye Feng said calmly.
"However, this technology has a drawback: its creation is exceedingly slow.
Our Curse Demon took several millennia, using the power of an entire civilization, to barely craft a World Will for a large world."
Richard's heart stirred as he suddenly asked, "Are you saying... rituals?"
"Yes, rituals," Ye Feng did not deny, "Our Curse Demon's ritual tradition is essentially a ceremony to craft World Will."
"What use does World Will have?" The Sun God King of the Gods Civilization asked, "Can it thrillingly control the world?"
"If we were to spend several millennia crafting it for a small world, then indeed it could," Ye Feng responded calmly, "However, even so, this technology can still assist the World Fortress technology.
I read that report, and the idea of using the World Tree as the world's hub is indeed genius.
But if the World Tree is integrated with the Artificial World Consciousness, the control over the World Fortress by the World Tree would advance even further.
When the time comes... we might have many such dominators like the World Tree."
The dominators turned their gaze towards the Great World Tree, who stroked its chin, contemplated briefly, then replied, "Feasible. However, I need to study it a bit. I've heard of this technology before, but didn't expect you all to accomplish it.
Indeed, every era has its extraordinary individuals."
"I also have an idea."
A deep voice suddenly emerged, immediately drawing the attention of many dominators.
"Samuel? Even you have an idea," Richard asked with intrigue.
"You bestowed a great gift upon me, so naturally, I ought to produce some results," Samuel grinned, revealing a sinister smile.
"I've been researching something new lately, and you all might find it useful."
As he spoke, the crimson Power of Abyss materialized in the hall into a complex Rune Model.
"This is a beacon, its purpose is cross-world summoning of an Abyss strike, with no distance limitation."
