Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Battle with the Earth Knight
The howl of the snow wolf echoed through the castle grounds, mixing with the blaring of the castle's invasion alarm. Everyone's expression turned grim.
"Is it a wolf pack attack?"
The castle steward quickly organized the servants to hide and furrowed his brows.
The Frost Wolf Ridge was home to vast forests filled with numerous wolf packs. In the past, the old duke had raised a group of grey wolves, but they were taken to the battlefield with him, never to return.
Liya and Amy also heard the wolf's howl. Their gazes shifted toward the sound, their expressions calm. They had full faith that the lord would handle it.
In contrast, Rena's face turned pale.
Her Snow Sprite Soul allowed her to sense energy fluctuations far better than others, especially when it came to ice-based powers. She immediately detected the aura of the Snow Eagle Bloodline emanating from Roman Knight, along with another far more powerful icy presence.
"This… this is Ice Wolf Earth Knight Hobbes?"
Upon carefully sensing the aura, Rena's eyes widened in shock and fear, her body trembling as despair washed over her.
An Earth Knight.
The Ice Crown Duke had actually sent an Earth Knight.
This was a true powerhouse on this land. Even with the current defenses of Frost Wolf Ridge, it was impossible to withstand the attack of an Earth Knight.
It's over.
Everything is over.
Rena closed her eyes, her face filled with bitterness.
She had only just begun to settle into a stable life and had started to open herself to the idea of change. Yet now, an Ice Wolf Earth Knight was here, crushing any chance she had to quietly give birth to an heir for the Crystal Song Kingdom.
While she appreciated the Frost Wolf Duke's vow to protect her, she knew that such promises were futile against an Earth Knight.
Even if the Frost Wolf Duke had strength close to that of an Earth Knight, the gap between them was an insurmountable chasm.
It's hopeless.
With her mind set, Rena's expression turned resolute. If there was no escape, she would bear all responsibility herself.
Her gaze turned toward the distant battlefield, and she leaped from the window, swiftly heading toward the fight.
---
The battle outside the castle was already underway.
Roman Knight, wielding a newly forged cross sword, was using his Snow Eagle Bloodline to enhance his speed, launching relentless attacks against the Ice Wolf Earth Knight.
However, his strength was far inferior to a true Earth Knight. Hobbes didn't even need to use his combat aura to suppress Roman Knight completely.
Boom!
With another heavy blow, Roman Knight was sent flying once more.
This wasn't the first time he had been knocked down, yet he still managed to rise shakily, using his sword for support. His steadfast dedication to protecting his princess kept him going.
"Enough."
"Enough already."
Rena arrived at the battlefield, her voice trembling as she shouted at Roman Knight.
Tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn't bear to watch her loyal protector fall in vain.
"Princess…" Roman Knight's grip on his sword tightened, his face filled with sorrow.
On the other side, Hobbes smirked coldly as his gaze landed on Rena.
"Princess, you've been wandering long enough. It's time to come home."
Rena stared at the Earth Knight before her, her teeth clenched in frustration.
But just as she was about to agree, a low voice interrupted her.
"Rena is mine. No one will take her away."
Dressed in his Frost Wolf armor, sword in hand, David strode confidently onto the battlefield.
Rena froze in place, turning abruptly to stare at him in disbelief. She never imagined the Frost Wolf Duke would intervene.
"The Frost Wolf Duke?"
Hobbes's gaze shifted to David, his lips curling into a sneer.
"You want to oppose me?"
As he spoke, a terrifying aura burst forth from Hobbes, pressing down on David.
Howl—
The massive snow wolf at Hobbes's side also let out a threatening growl.
Under this immense pressure, David's expression grew serious, but his steps remained steady. He moved in front of Rena, his voice firm.
"I promised to protect you."
Rena was taken aback, her expression filled with urgency.
"But he's an Earth Knight!"
"So what if he is?"
"I gave you my word. No one will harm you while I'm here."
David stood tall, shielding Rena from view as his Frost Wolf Bloodline surged within him.
Rena stared at the figure before her, a sense of shock and awe washing over her.
"Was he serious when he made that promise?" she murmured to herself.
Crack, crack—
Cold energy gathered around David, forming a crystalline Frost Wolf Armor over his entire body.
Facing the Earth Knight, David didn't hold back, knowing full well the challenge ahead.
"The Frost Wolf Armor?"
Hobbes's expression shifted slightly, his demeanor becoming more serious.
The Ice Wolf Bloodline and Frost Wolf Bloodline were closely related, so Hobbes was well-versed in the latter's capabilities.
According to the Ice Wolf family's records, the Frost Wolf Armor was a skill unique to Frost Wolf Knights who had mastered their breath technique to the fourth tier.
Yet this Frost Wolf Duke was only a third-tier knight and had already awakened the armor. This meant he truly possessed strength comparable to an Earth Knight.
"Frost Wolf Duke, are you sure you want to stand in my way?" Hobbes unsheathed his family's ancestral weapon, the Ice Wolf Fang. His voice was icy and sharp.
"You talk too much."
David gripped his sword tightly and, in a flash, charged forward.
Frost Wolf's Breath!
The full power of his Frost Wolf Bloodline erupted, unleashing an overwhelming wave of icy energy.
Crack, crack—
Under David's command, his intermediate-level Ice Elemental Affinity surged to life. The surrounding snow and wind obeyed his will, coalescing into a devastating strike aimed at the Ice Wolf Earth Knight.
Faced with the ferocity of David's Frost Wolf Technique, Hobbes sensed genuine danger. Without hesitation, he activated his combat aura and retaliated w
ith a powerful slash.
Boom!
The clash of their energies created a deafening explosion, shattering ice and scattering snow in all directions.
