Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam

Chapter 203: Puppeteer_2

However, as Ethan's temporary assistant, the detective did not speak, and she did not strike with lethal force. Otherwise, Silver Fox wouldn't have been hit so lightly; he would find himself sliced in two during his flight.

The Silver Fox was lifted back with the help of many Magic Masters, lying limp on the ground, gasping for breath.

He also saw the Vice President's face darken to the extreme.

"It seems the truth has come to light."

The Vice President glared at him coldly, veins bulging on his face, his features twisted as he spoke, "I'm sorry, Miss Rowena, I've misunderstood you."

These words were squeezed out from between clenched teeth. It was the most humiliating and unwilling moment in his life.

However, Silver Fox's attack on Ethan during questioning and subsequent escape are facts witnessed by everyone. On closer reflection, this aggressive interrogation was initiated by him, but it was Silver Fox who gathered them all together.

It was Silver Fox who made them believe Rowena might harm the scholar.

Thus, everything can be explained.

"Mr. Ethan, leave the rest to us."

The Vice President vented all his anger on Silver Fox, "I will make him pay the proper price; his family won't be able to protect him."

Silver Fox must die.

But death is too light a punishment for him; he should use a spell to leave some marks on Silver Fox.

The angry voice echoed.

Silver Fox, however, seemed to have lost his ability to speak; his eyes clouded as though he had accepted his fate.

Ethan remained non-committal.

The Magic Masters watched as Silver Fox was taken away, their eyes filled with complexity. Even now, they felt a sense of unreality, not fully accepting the scholar's demise.

Once the Magic Masters left, the star-gazing room returned to silence, and Rowena asked, "Was it him?"

She felt something odd.

Silver Fox appeared to have been scared senseless, every decision he made exuded an odd vibe—did he really think he'd escape before Ethan and so many Great Mages?

Rowena found it hard to believe that someone daring enough to harm the scholar would have such poor mental resilience.

Despite her longstanding opposition to the scholar, she had to admit he was one of the greatest mages of this era. It was hard to imagine such a great mage falling at the hands of a coward like Silver Fox.

"Not necessarily, but at least he knew the scholar was dead since last night."

This was why Silver Fox seemed suspicious; he couldn't explain why he ignored the rotting pumpkin pie. Perhaps he was scared off, or he witnessed the scholar's corpse.

This plunged Silver Fox's mind into turmoil, and combined with the black magic potion, he made many reckless decisions in confusion.

Ethan suddenly looked to the left, a book that had fallen on the ground vanished before his eyes.

"Teacher, help me keep an eye in the holding cell. If the real murderer is in the Wizard Tower, they will certainly try to make Silver Fox confess."

Rowena was startled by the sound of a cat jumping onto the desk, but then she thought it fit Lindong's characteristic of liking to join in the excitement—after all, there's probably nothing more explosive than the scholar's murder. If this news reaches the Imperial City, it will immediately become the hot topic of discussion.

"Got it, great detective."

The invisible cat lazily replied.

"...I didn't expect you to act the part. Have you ever been a detective?"

After a moment, Rowena said.

Ethan once again proved he could do everything. If it were her, she wouldn't bother to rack her brains and waste words with the people in the Wizard Tower.

Being a detective is one of the most dangerous professions nowadays. The closer to the truth, the closer to danger.

She had seen many tasks to assassinate detectives with excessive curiosity and a sense of justice on the Nightmare Erosion bounty board.

"This is basic competence for a Reception Bureau investigator."

Ethan, however, felt uneasy. He felt things wouldn't be as simple; perhaps until the end, there would be no real "murderer" forcing Silver Fox to confess.

"Let's go, to the cafeteria."

"Cafeteria? Are you hungry?"

Rowena rubbed her stomach. At Ethan's words, she felt slightly hungry, but dining in the Wizard Tower wasn't ideal. With her notoriety in the Wizard Tower, it wouldn't be surprising if someone poisoned the food.

Nevertheless, she followed Ethan.

There are no ordinary people in the Wizard Tower. Even the cleaning servants and kitchen staff are at least Tier Three Mages. Over the years, many mages have applied their creativity to daily life, aside from combat spells—automatic sweeping spells, peeling and cutting spells, requiring no hands-on effort from esteemed mages. All it takes is holding a cookbook, issuing magic commands, and the ingredients would be assembled in the most precise manner.

It was almost dinner time now, and the aroma in the cafeteria intensified Rowena's hunger.

"Sorry, she's not allowed to dine here."

The kitchen magician recognized Rowena, this notorious villain, and spoke coldly.

This is the downside of the academic hierarchy.

Rowena didn't care for the attitude of the young magician since most who enter the Wizard Tower are descendants of some Pure-blood Clan. They follow their mentor from an early age, learning not only magic skills but also inheriting many of their mentor's attitudes.
