Winter is Coming (asoiaf)

Chapter 1: 1. Rebirth in a Known World

I am a mercenary for heir that people employ to get their dirty work done through any means. It was a pretty normal day for me, I have just finished another task and was wrapping up and cleaning all the evidence when a guard of the men I just killed suddenly came inside. He saw his employer dead and opened fire from his SMG on me. I was not prepared and the bullets pierced me. I died on the spot.

When I next opened my eyes, I was in some strange place that was completely white in all directions and seems to be endless. I kept wandering there for an unknown amount of time and when I was about to go mad and lose all my senses, I was whisked away somewhere. The next thing I knew I was sitting in a chair in some kind of office with some man sitting infront of me drinking tea.

"Congratulation, I have decided to take you as my entertainment, and you are going to a completely random world with 3 wishes. So, choose wisely and be careful because the dangers in the world may also grow if you wish too strong a wish. Understood, so let's begin." The man said without giving me a chance to question him.

"So, you are a God or something like that like in those fanfics. And you are going to send me to a fictional world, right." I asked

"Yes"

"So, can you tell me the world I am going to first so that I don't ask for a wish too strong or too weak." I asked.

"Smart. Well, here you go." He summoned what looked like a roulette wheel and spin it. The wheel kept on spinning for a few minutes when it finally stopped on asoiaf/got (AU). "You are going to a mix of 'A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones that is set in an alternate universe. Now ask your wishes and fast."

"Ok, first, I want a healing factor that can heal any injury within a weak and makes me immune to all diseases and toxins. It doesn't have to be wolverine level to save me from critical injury but anything that doesn't kill me in a few minutes I can survive it."

"Second, I want knowledge of magic, rituals and elemental magic to be specific and some other things that may help me I will leave it unto you what you want to give me, of the world so that I can grow strong on my own. And lastly, I want a 10 times multiplier for anything I do. If I practice martial arts for an hour, it will be like I practiced it for 10 hours, if I read a book once, it will be like I have already read it 10 times." I said.

"Good choices, not too strong, and certainly not weak. Now you get to decide your looks and you background in the world and off you go." He told me and a sort of screen appeared in front of me from which I can decide height, body structure, looks, etc. I tinkered a little on it and found that I can look like anyone I want. So, I decide to look like David Laid with an 8 pack abs and martial artist's build. My height will be 6' 2" and I ensured that I don't have a small pecker at all making it 13" long. For my backstory, I chose to be born as legitimate son of Brandon Stark and Barbery Ryswell and heir to the North with some Dragon rider blood of Valyria in my ancestry. I didn't want to be the son of the fool that was Ned Stark or him to be my regent, that's why I chose this route.

"Ok, I am done and ready. Also, can you please lock my memories and knowledge of magic, only memories and knowledge, not powers till the age of 4 or Robert's Rebellion whichever comes first. I don't want to live like a toddler and embarrassing myself everyday."

"It can be done. Now, live an entertaining life for me with lots of action, gore, intrigue and sex in it. Bye-bye"

And the next thing I knew I was falling in an endless abys. Suddenly, the feeling of falling ended and I was in a room that looked like a nursery for a kid which I guess I am. I was suddenly hit with a sudden headache like someone is ringing huge bells while my head is just below it. Fortunately, the headache went as soon as it came, and the memories of these 4 years came to me. I learned my name is Symeon Stark, named after an old legend from the Age of Heroes. I learned why this was an AU verse, firstly my grandmother is not Lyarra Stark, it is Genna Lannister, sister of old lion Tywin Lannister. So, I can't say that every character will have same history as I know.

As I was thinking all this, I heard a knock on the door and a voice "Milord wake up."

"Come in."

A maid came inside and said, "Milord your mother is asking you to get ready and to come to Great Hall to break your fast."

"I am ready, and I was going just there." I said and left for the Great Hall.

As I was going towards Great Hall, I realized how different Winterfell is from canon and show. Firstly, Winterfell is very big castle, and not one made with budget in mind but only security and protection in mind with six walls, each taller than previous one and a moat on every second wall from outside. The land between the wall is used for farming, housing glass garden, granaries, barracks and servant quarters, etc. leaving only the keeps, glass garden, crypts, godswood and kitchen in the innermost part and making Winterfell the biggest castle in Westeros, far surpassing Harrenhal without accumulating the cost of maintaining a castle as big as Harrenhal as most of the land is used for farming instead of housing keeps, halls, towers etc. Each wall is filled with guard turrets

Second difference about Winterfell is that it doesn't have winter town between its walls. It is actually situated on the banks of Wolf Knife River, a tributary of White Knife flowing through Stark lands, and is actually a city not a town, bringing trade to the center of North through the river and making it the capital city of the North.

While thinking all this, I reached the Great Hall of Winterfell. It was filled with men-at-arms and servants having food on the 8 lower tables that can settle upto 500 men while the Stark family, lords and important members of Household sit and eat at the high table.

At the center of the high table sat my grandfather and lord of Winterfell, Rickard Stark with his wife Genna Stark nee Lannister on his left and heir and my father on his right. On my father's right sat my mother, Barbrey Stark nee Ryswell. Further along the table sat Aunt Lyanna, Uncle Benjen and granduncle Rodrik "the Wandering Wolf" Stark. On the other side of the table sat Vayon Poole, castle's Steward, along with his family, Rodrik and Martyn Cassel along with their family and Maester Walys.

I went and sat beside my mother and greeted my family members and started helping myself with the food. I carefully chose my food to have a balanced diet with lots of protein. While eating I kept an ear out for all the conversation happening around me and learned that my father, Brandon Stark would be going with Uncle Benjen and Aunt Lyanna to the Harrenhal to be represent House Stark at Tourney of Harrenhal. So, I have approximately 6 months to a year before the start of rebellion. Now unfortunately I couldn't change the future right now because the rebellion will never happen otherwise.

After breakfast, I went to the godswood but it didn't feel any different, slightly eyrie like a haunted place or something but nothing else. I looked into my knowledge given to me by ROB and found a meditation technique that helps you in connecting with magic. I sat on a root of the Weirwood tree and followed the method after a few minutes I could feel the magic surrounding me. It was practically saturating the place, it was a blissful feeling.

Sitting there I browsed through the knowledge given to me, it has a lot of things, mainly consisting of rituals, how to do them, when to do, security measures and elemental magic. It seems if your bloodline has an affinity for an element, you don't need spells or incantation to channel it. Like Targaryen's have affinity for fire, if they learn to control it, they will not need spells or incantation to do it. Also, I was provided with a lot of theory about the working of magic and all that along with some common magic employed by wizards of this world like mind reading, manipulation etc. and how to defend against them.

Soon time for my lesson with the Maester came and I left the godswood for the library where I was greeted by Maester Walys. He started teaching me about the history of North and Westeros. I used this time to use some of my new skills to read his mind and find out if the citadel is really involved in removing magic from this world or not. And what I learnt was not shocking at all, as it was all as I suspected, not all of the citadel but many of them were involved in helping andals conquering and eliminating all magical races of Westeros and chopping of weirwood trees all because these learned men belonged to normal families so rarely had any magic and were jealous, later they proposed dragonpit to Jaehaerys which stunted dragons and they were able to control what they ate and slowly poisoned them. While the poison didn't work on older dragons, it surely worked on newly hatched young dragons. The eggs of these poisoned dragons also didn't hatch due to it or give birth to malformed beasts.

Till now, they stayed away from North only because Starks were too sensitive related to the faith followed in the North but when they learned that my grandfather has ambition for southern alliance, they changed the maester of Winterfell and sent Walys. Walys is here to have these non-magical andal houses marry into House Stark and slowly have their minds filled with the knowledge that magic is dead, as magic is mostly based on belief. If the children from a young age believe that magic is dead, they would not be able to sort of 'activate it' and their children would have higher chances of not inheriting it. As for why Starks didn't have any wargs for generations even they didn't know. But I know one thing, this Maester Walys has to go and before the start of rebellion.
