Chapter 755: You're mocking me, right?
Quickly, Shane left the Enchanting Demon Castle and came outside.
This was Shane's first time venturing out since arriving in the Enchanting Demon City.
For two days, Shane had been waiting in the Enchanting Demon Castle for Ai Yi to come over, only to find out today from Chafne that the girl had long been brushed off and would not be coming.
In that case, there was no longer any need for Shane to continue staying in the Enchanting Demon Castle.
With three days left, at least he should take a walk outside, right?
Of course, Shane's appearance was bound to disturb the entire Enchanting Demon City.
At least, as he walked on the street, Shane could feel many pairs of eyes watching him.
Not only the visible eyes but also those concealed in the shadows.
It was as if they had been watching him for a long time; many meaningful pairs of eyes became sharp upon discovering Shane, while others disappeared.
Shane knew they were off to report to those who were interested.
With so many pairs of eyes, they certainly weren't all acting on their own initiative.
Many of the watchers were placed there by the names and powerful clans within the Enchanting Demon City.
Now that Shane had appeared, they naturally had to rush back to report.
Thus, on this day, a series of conversations took place across various clan territories within the Enchanting Demon City.
"That Human has finally shown up, huh?"
"Should we go meet him?"
"No, I heard that a Stone Woman from the Stone Woman Clan is right by his side."
"Could it be that the Enchanting Demon Lord has arranged a guard for this Human?"
"It seems the Enchanting Demon Lord really values this Human."
"To have that one as an escort, this treatment is almost comparable to the other Lords themselves coming to the Enchanting Demon City."
"So we can't touch him this time, can we?"
"Not anymore, at least not openly."
"Keep watching. We'll find an opportunity."
"I want to see this mere Human that the Lord values so highly."
Such conversations ensued, stirring up the undercurrents of the Enchanting Demon City.
Naturally, the world is never short of fools with simple minds who don't think too much.
Thanks to them, once he hit the streets, Shane had no shortage of encounters with troublemakers.
Like right now...
"Thud!"
With a muffled sound, a burly and tall Upper-level Demon Clan member was viciously kicked away, screaming as he crashed into a pile of roadside rubbish and was buried.
"Damn it!"
Several other members of the Demon Clan charged towards Shane, enraged, with Magic Power surging around them, creating an imposing aura. Judging by their momentum, they all seemed to be Upper-level Demon Clan over Level 70.
Unfortunately...
"Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!"...
Accompanied by a series of muffled thumps, these impressive Upper-level Demon Clan were all kicked away one by one, scattering in all directions like kicked balls, falling to the ground.
Wails incessantly emanated from them.
"How many times has it been now?"
Standing amidst the fallen Demon Clan, Shane asked Liel, clearly annoyed, in front of all the onlooking Demon Clan.
"The fourth wave."
Liel did not lift a finger, just watching the scene indifferently from the side.
"The fourth wave..."
Shane was speechless, looking up to the sky with a long sigh, questioning his existence.
Other protagonists who arrive in the Otherworld either gather legions with a single call or shake the world with their might, basking in the cheers and admiration of the people, shining brilliantly as transmigrators.
But he seemed to have a rougher time, attracting countless grudges just by walking down the street. No beauties threw themselves at him, nor did he have any face-slapping moments—just burly men constantly lunging at him.
Wasn't this treatment a bit too harsh?
Shane began to doubt whether he was the protagonist at all.
Instead, it seemed the lines of the small-time thugs hadn't changed much.
"You... you're done for..."
An Upper-level Demon Clan member nearest to Shane pointed at him, shaking and speaking tremulously.
"Having offended our Snake Eye Clan, your end will be miserable. My brother or my father will avenge me..."
Look at that speech; it's absolutely formulaic.
"You deal with it."
Shane couldn't be bothered to speak anymore, just waved his hand tiredly and continued to walk on.
At that moment, Liel stepped forward.
"Snake Eye Clan?" Liel looked coldly at the Demon Clan on the ground and said, "Did Rick the fool tell you to make a spectacle of yourselves?"
"You... you are...!?" The upper-level Demon Clan member looked at Liel as if he had only just noticed her, his eyes wide in shock.
Liel's expression was cold and unyielding.
"Private fights are forbidden in Enchanting Demon City. Your Snake Eye Clan knew this and still violated the rule. Go back and tell Rick to come to Enchanting Demon Castle to receive his punishment."
Liel uttered words that caused the complexions of all the demons lying on the ground to change dramatically.
"We... we..."
They wanted to say something, but Liel didn't give them the chance.
"Scram!"
A dangerous glint flickered in Liel's eyes.
Instantly, a group of demon youngsters who resembled spoiled brats scrambled away in a panic.
Even the surrounding onlookers quickly dispersed like birds and beasts, not daring to stay put.
Only then did Liel catch up to Shane, as if nothing had happened at all, or as if she had merely dealt with a trivial matter—her expression unchanged.
Only Shane was still sighing.
"I mean, is there no way to avoid this kind of thing?" Shane was clearly getting a bit irked.
"There isn't." Liel was succinct in her response. "I've told you before, in Enchanting Demon City, regardless of gender, everyone admires Lady Chafne. Since you're favored by Lady Chafne, you have to deal with the consequences."
"Well, you guys are really something," Shane said with a wry smile. "Honestly, this is the first time I've felt like just demolishing a city."
"If you can do it, then do it," Liel wasn't intimidated, instead, she glanced at Shane and added, "Just don't blame me for not warning you. Enchanting Demon City is not like the cities of the Human Race. There are no fewer than twenty Legendary figures here. Don't think it's like the Imperial City of the Ragna Empire in the Human Realm, where just about anyone could come and destroy it."
It was clear that Liel had done some investigation and had learned something about Shane's past deeds.
But what she didn't realize was that the person she referred to as "just about anyone" was not some nobody but had once stepped into the realm of Transcend Level.
If she knew this, she wouldn't have spoken so confidently.
(Speaking of which, Moro's matter, I wonder how many people know about it now.)
The incident caused by Moro in the Imperial City was undoubtedly significant.
The revelation of an entity that had once reached Transcend Level could create chaos for the Three Great Races.
Yet, the commotion caused by Moro didn't seem to be widely known.
Firstly, in the eyes of many, it was just a coup within one of the kingdoms of the Human Realm, not a major event within the broader scope of the world.
Secondly, the news of the Hero's emergence certainly overshadowed the impact of the Moro incident, leading many to focus on the Hero, Shane, and the stance of the Three clans.
For those at the pinnacle of the world, the matter of the Hero was surely of greater importance than a mere upstart Imperial Concubine causing a political upheaval, right?
Moreover, with the Branch of Resurgence and the Great Undead Sacrifice Magic Array not being widely known, and since the Ragna Empire sought to quell the situation by attributing all anomalies to "the use of evil ritual magic for unspeakable purposes by the Imperial Concubine" as a facile explanation, very few were truly aware of Moro's astonishing feat.
Now, people were only concerned about the emergence of the Hero and the peace among the Three clans—who would care about a coup in the Ragna Empire, or the doings of an Imperial Concubine?
If it weren't for the near-destruction of the Imperial City, and because Moro's large-scale ritual magic array caused such a stir, the incident might have been ignored by all.
(Once the matter concerning me settles down, the situation in the Imperial City will surely re-enter the focus of those in power, right?)
That's what Shane thought.
It was uncertain, however, how many would realize the true story behind it when that time came.
Actually, Shane himself had been preoccupied with all sorts of sudden developments that he had nearly forgotten about Moro's incident.
Now, remembering it, Shane realized there were still several unanswered questions.
For instance, what happened to the Branch of Resurgence after Moro, whom he had slain, awakened it?
And why did the girl named Lani suddenly disappear without a trace?
Moreover, what exactly was Moro's "Symbiosis" all about?
Shane had a feeling that there was a big secret yet to be unveiled.
This made Shane sigh again.
"Why do you sigh all day long?" Liel was clearly dissatisfied. "You're a Hero nevertheless, can't you show some backbone and buck up a little?"
"You think I want to feel this way?" Shane retorted in a woeful manner, "Unlike you, who only has eyes for an undeveloped real love between the same sex, incapable of understanding what it's like, wanting to solve mysteries, but instead of unraveling them, they just seem to multiply."
"I don't understand." Liel frowned as she replied, "But I can still tell that you're mocking me, aren't you?"
Shane didn't respond but gave Liel a pure, innocent smile.
Liel fell silent, and the next second, she immediately raised her fist and swung without mercy.
"Whoosh!"
Shane vanished with Instant Movement, causing Liel's punch to hit empty air.
"Come back here!"
Liel, furious, shouted at the surroundings, startling all the nearby demons.
"You better go back, Violent Woman."
Shane's voice reached Liel's ears.
"I can move around more easily alone."
Leaving her with those words, Shane disappeared without a trace.
"Damn scoundrel!"
Liel, seething with anger, clenched her teeth but didn't hesitate; she immediately contacted her clansmen and began searching for Shane.
Little did she know, in the darkness, some malevolence was also stirring and ready to move.
