Chapter 523: Other Plaintiffs
Nan Zhubin's gaze swept through the room swiftly, capturing the images of most of the people in the venue in an instant.
In the middle of the room sat a circle of men wearing various styles, though upon closer inspection there seemed to be some similarities among them.
Some were lean and tall, their arms and shoulders covered with firm muscles; others appeared slightly bulky, giving the impression of being in their early twenties, though their waists already protruded uncontrollably.
Some sat properly, silent, as if waiting for something; others carried an air of deliberate nonchalance, glancing around restlessly.
Yet, subtly, they conveyed a sense of organized chaos.
Even the young man with the thickest waist gave an overall impression of solid strength.
Nan Zhubin also spotted Lawyer Zhan, whom he had met briefly before, currently engaged in conversation with a man wearing a luxurious watch. These two were seated closest to the center among the group.
Nan Zhubin ignored him, instead nodding to acknowledge an unexpected acquaintance in the room.
"Assistant Chen is here too."
The Chen he referred to was the staff wearing thick black-rimmed glasses who had previously worked with him on anti-fraud speeches at various colleges. Upon seeing Nan Zhubin, he naturally broke into an expression.
But considering the current professional setting, the black rims ultimately only allowed a smile to surface, nodding slightly in greeting.
Before Nan Zhubin could say much more, Lawyer Zhan had already stood up: "Professor Bai, Teacher Nan! And this is..."
The other party hadn't met Chonghui before. Out of social courtesy, Nan Zhubin made introductions temporarily: "This is my senior, Chonghui."
Lawyer Zhan's eyes flicked over Chonghui's arms and neck twice, politely saying: "Teacher Chong, nice to meet you."
Chonghui glanced at Nan Zhubin's expression, as someone familiar, he seemed to grasp the situation.
So he too showed a socially interested smile: "Hello Lawyer Zhan, pleasure to meet you."
This group had already paid attention when Nan Zhubin's party entered, and seeing Lawyer Zhan's actions made them more restless.
At this moment, Lawyer Zhan took the opportunity to introduce: "Professor Bai, and the two teachers, they are all my clients and the plaintiffs in this case — also, they are comrades of Nan Zhihao."
Although they were "all" clients, it seemed there were priorities. In Nan Zhubin's observation, Lawyer Zhan remained positioned the closest to the young man with the watch.
That young man was also adept at finding key people. After exchanging a glance with Lawyer Zhan, he approached Bai Qinghua for conversation.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Zhan skillfully segmented a small environment for individual discussion within the room by his positioning, separating Nan Zhubin and his two companions.
He leaned slightly forward, upper body inclined: "Teacher Nan, has Nan Zhihao contacted you in the past two days? Has he not arrived yet?"
Indeed, it was about this matter.
Lawyer Zhan's voice was not loud, even indoors, it was kept within the range of only two people hearing. Yet, somehow, several of the plaintiffs who hadn't stood up yet directed their gaze over here uniformly.
But before Nan Zhubin could respond, Bai Qinghua spoke up: "Is the conversation about the visitor's issue, Lawyer Zhan?"
Beside Bai Qinghua, the young man with the watch was speaking half-way, mouth open. Possibly because his speech was interrupted, or perhaps he hadn't expected Bai Qinghua's focus not to remain with him, his face darkened immediately.
Just then, Chonghui stepped forward, his broad back unfolding, intentionally or unintentionally shielding the view of the other plaintiffs behind him.
Bai Qinghua smiled calmly: "Lawyer Zhan, I was quite busy when I arrived earlier, but today I have some time. Are you interested in consultations about visitors?"
The temperament he displayed here was a stark contrast from when he was at the company or in the project group. He still appeared as a gentle and elegant professor, yet his demeanor and tone made people involuntarily avert their gaze from his eyes.
Lawyer Zhan's smile stiffened slightly, his upper body involuntarily leaning back a bit.
And Nan Zhubin looked around, moving beside the assistant with the thick black rims.
After inquiring softly, he heard the assistant with the thick black rims look up and say: "Professor Bai, Teacher Chong, apologies, we initially thought the plaintiffs who invited Teacher Nan would also be present here. But since he's not, we will need to trouble you to move to the designated witness waiting room, awaiting the court session."
...
In court, expert witnesses are typically invited and compensated by the plaintiffs and remain with them in the waiting room; whereas witnesses unrelated to the plaintiffs are guided to a special witness waiting room to avoid special exchanges.
Nan Zhubin and his group were somewhat complex; Nan Zhubin was there for Nan Zhihao, counted as invited by the plaintiffs; Bai Qinghua was invited by the court, but also barely considered a plaintiff's witness.
Therefore, for convenience in procedure, they were all placed in this waiting room.
However, evidently, when Nan Zhubin actively proposed, the situation changed.
The young man with the watch's face darkened further, apparently not expecting the court staff to stand out at this moment. He stepped forward as if wanting to say something, but Lawyer Zhan immediately held him back, shaking his head.
Thus, the three of them had to go somewhere new.
Before the door closed, Nan Zhubin faintly heard voices discussing behind him: "Is that Zhihao's consultant? Is he really doing Psychological Consultation?"
"Is it necessary..."
"Is Zhihao really not coming?"
"Apparently not, it's as if it's not his matter at all..."
With a "bang," the door closed, sealing these discussions inside.
Nan Zhubin and the others walked in another direction.
Reaching the new waiting room, Nan Zhubin expressed thanks and apologetic sentiments to the assistant with the thick black rims for causing trouble. The assistant waved it off, indicating it was his responsibility and no trouble at all.
Chonghui's face showed slight indignation, Bai Qinghua remained expressionless. The voices of the last few plaintiffs had been audible as they spoke, all had heard it.
"Hmm? Junior, what are you thinking?" Chonghui was about to vent together with Nan Zhubin, only to find Nan Zhubin lost in thought.
"I am recalling their expressions after entering and how many people there were, and how many spoke at the end." Nan Zhubin said, revealing a relieved expression, "Looking at it now, not everyone shares the same thoughts."
This sigh was not for himself.
For a moment, Chonghui didn't know what to say.
A short while later, the assistant with the thick black rims knocked and entered, saying: "Teachers, it's time for the court session."
