Chapter 121: Infiltration Becomes Easier the More You Do It
Cyan Thorn, Spiritual Snake Helm's former site.
Gold-level investigator Zhang Ze and Lin Feng revisit the site, launching another infiltration mission into the Spiritual Snake Helm.
Meanwhile, the three elders continue to watch strongly from the skies, without intervening.
They claim this is a test for the Sword Sect disciples.
Without experiencing storms, how can one see the rainbow?
Although it seems redundant, it truly is redundant, yet those old folks are stubborn about such matters.
However, Zhang Ze didn't mind, after all, idle days remain idle, and doing tasks like this earns more system rewards.
Zhang Ze and Lin Feng, both cultivators, stepped on the snow leisurely toward the Spiritual Snake Helm's former site.
Nameless's storage ring had already been pried open by Lin Feng, and this time Zhang Ze insisted on splitting it equally with Lin Feng.
"You found Nameless, pried open the storage ring; without Brother Feng, this wouldn't be possible, so this share is yours."
After persuading Lin Feng, most items related to cultivation went to Lin Feng, while Zhang Ze gladly accepted materials and cultivation techniques.
Among them, Zhang Ze valued Nameless's diary the most.
Good people don't write diaries, but Nameless wasn't a good person, so he did.
The diary's content wasn't twisted but rather quite normal, totally inconsistent with Nameless's persona.
It recorded his daily observations and insights into cultivation.
Even overly detailed at times.
Moreover, the diary didn't mention a trace of information related to the Hundred Demons Sect; just by reading it, one would think Nameless was just an ordinary Pill Cultivator.
"What's there to see in this diary?" Lin Feng couldn't help but ask.
"Without this diary, how would Brother Feng continue the infiltration?" Zhang Ze closed the diary.
"Infiltration? Wasn't Nameless dead?" Lin Feng was briefly stunned.
In Lin Feng's understanding, since Nameless was dead, his line of connection was severed, and the only way to continue infiltrating was to wait for the next Blood Lion Ancestor to come to Cyan Thorn.
However, Zhang Ze thought differently.
"Who said Nameless was dead?" Zhang Ze retorted.
"But..." Lin Feng was taken aback by Zhang Ze's question.
"Nameless died inside the Profound Identification Treasure Mirror, only us, Li, and the three elders know about it."
"If none of us say anything, then Nameless isn't dead."
"I have Nameless's belongings; can't I be Nameless?"
Having acquired Nameless's Black King Order and understanding his habits and details from the diary,
Zhang Ze felt the previously postponed Hundred Demons Sect phone fraud plan could now begin.
Yet, how to carry out the fraud, whom to deceive, needed to wait until the secrets of the Spiritual Snake Helm were uncovered.
They reached their destination without encountering a single sentry.
Standing before the stone wall, Zhang Ze used the method seen in Nameless's dream and found the hidden array, inputting true qi in a specific manner, causing the stone wall before them to blur slowly.
An entrance appeared before them.
Zhang Ze glanced upward, seeing no shadows, suggesting the three elders had no intention of intervening.
Slacking off, a plan of returning home for dinner before nightfall was thoroughly foiled, as Zhang Ze followed Lin Feng stepping into the cave.
Under Zhang Ze's guidance, they navigated and opened hidden doors, continuing along the underground passage without hesitation.
Only reaching the final hidden door did Zhang Ze and Lin Feng encounter the first cultivator of the Demon Path, who instead was startled.
"Who are you?" He held a seal-like magical artifact, aiming it at Zhang Ze and Lin Feng.
Such infiltration missions become familiar with repetition, Lin Feng now experienced as he casually replied, "We are the new recruits under Nameless Lord."
"Where is Nameless Lord now?" The cultivator did not lower his guard, pressing against the wall, one hand hidden behind his back, seemingly ready to activate a mechanism.
"The lord is busy with important matters and sent my brother and I to check on your tasks, whether completed successfully," Zhang Ze stepped forward and spoke.
With that, both he and Lin Feng took out pendants from their bosom, showing them to the cultivator.
These pendants served as identity proofs issued by Nameless to his subordinates; Lin Feng's was directly given by Nameless, Zhang Ze's was taken from the storage ring.
Anyone else seeing the pendants would believe them; after all, they opened hidden doors and possessed proof of identity, clearly appearing to be allies.
Yet, this cultivator was overly cautious, still unconvinced.
"Don't move, I need to check," the cultivator demanded.
He cautiously moved sideways, eyes fixed on Zhang Ze and Lin Feng.
The overly cautious cultivator approached a rock, gently pressing a mechanism.
As the mechanism was activated, Zhang Ze and Lin Feng simultaneously heard a beep.
Followed by nothing else.
Lin Feng maintained his usual expression, but Zhang Ze felt uncomfortable.
For he truly hadn't expected an inspection gate here.
To be safe, given the Hundred Refinement Poison Transformation Pill hadn't expired, Zhang Ze also consumed a Heart Control Pill.
Unexpectedly, it proved crucial; this place had an array for checking Gu Insects.
The moment the beep sounded, the Gu insects within the pills inside Zhang Ze and Lin Feng reacted due to some array.
Then the Gu insect inside Lin Feng was swiftly killed by the Black Sword Illusion, transforming into the purest spiritual qi nourishing Lin Feng's meridians.
The one within Zhang Ze saw the same fate, enveloped and dissolved by pill mist, leaving him with a medicinal belch.
Hearing this sound, the cultivator finally relaxed, knowing the red pill contained something he was well aware of, as he had been with Nameless the longest.
He forced a smile toward Zhang Ze and Lin Feng, nodding.
"The task arranged by Nameless Lord has been handled successfully, just awaiting Nameless Lord's command for delivery to the Main Helm."
"If you two wish, you may come in and verify."
With that, the cultivator opened the hidden door.
Zhang Ze and Lin Feng followed the cultivator through into the hidden door.
The figures of the three elders appeared outside the door.
"I searched thoroughly; the rest of the place is indeed empty, anything useful is behind that hidden door," Li said.
"I'm unfamiliar with array techniques, and the items there are beyond my understanding; why the Hundred Demons Sect went to such great lengths remains a mystery," Sixth Elder shook his head.
"If it's unknowable, let it be; as they say, plow through troubled times, sweeping across the martial path's peak, dispelling…"
"Shut up!"
Third Elder was cut off by Li and Sixth Elder mid-recital.
Perhaps due to the high value of this poetic phrase, Third Elder read snippets at every opportunity, nearly annoying Li and Sixth Elder to death.
Miffed, Third Elder shifted the topic, "Guess what those two lads would do."
"Of course, they'd destroy that array and those jade scrolls; what else?" Sixth Elder replied.
Li, though he couldn't decipher arrays, understood Zhang Ze's actions, "I doubt they'd do it like that."
"That lad surely will cause some mischief,"
Li offered his professional opinion on Zhang Ze's modus operandi.
