Who is Playing the Love Development Game in Gundam

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Tail

As He Kui stepped out of the alley near the port, he sensed a few strange shadows trailing behind him.

His heart immediately raced as he casually revealed a glimpse of the gun tucked away.

Though the area was dark, Coordinators generally had excellent vision, and they should be able to see it.

Sure enough, after he made that move, he noticed that the number of shadows lurking behind him had diminished slightly, but there were still one or two following him.

Their gang-like behavior resembled a pack of wolves; these individuals were professionals at robbery and had developed a fixed process. The two behind him were likely assessing whether he was bluffing, as there were still plenty of fake guns on the market.

He couldn't afford to relax.

He kept his hand close to his holster, ready to draw; though his marksmanship wasn't stellar, he had attended military school and could at least maintain a professional-looking stance, slowly disengaging the safety.

With a click, the shadows behind him retreated further.

Finally, He Kui arrived at the station, marking the end of his most dangerous journey. Although police presence was severely lacking, there were at least a couple of officers stationed at this important location.

He nodded at the two officers in fitted blue uniforms before boarding a magnetic levitation automated vehicle, safely returning to the Sea Lan Design Bureau campus.

The next day, following Sule's prior instructions, He Kui successfully returned the gun to her through the various layers of security.

"I think I encountered those robbers yesterday."

"Really? You ran into them?"

Sule's eyes widened in surprise as she scanned He Kui for any signs of trouble.

"Not really; luckily, I had the gun."

It was clear that if he hadn't disengaged the safety, those people might have indeed rushed him.

"Things are quite chaotic outside now. Be careful, and try not to go out unless absolutely necessary."

With the lack of police, rising unemployment, sudden war taxes, and a sluggish market, while the five major design bureaus seemed calm, the outside world was far from it. When someone found themselves in dire straits, unable to pay rent or afford synthetic food, they would naturally resort to desperate measures.

"Speaking of which, I actually want to rent a place in the plant area."

"You really are scared for your life."

"I'm just being prepared."

"Fine, but let me make it clear: I won't cover the cost for you. I'm not exactly rich myself."

"I didn't expect you to pay for me, Director Sule. I just wanted to ask if you know anyone trustworthy who might be interested in sharing a lease."

He Kui wouldn't dream of asking Sule to pay for him; however, as the director, her connections would undoubtedly be stronger than his.

"Roommates could be a solution. Alright, I'll help you look, but don't get your hopes up. Most people are struggling these days and probably don't have the extra cash."

Sule sighed, knowing several people who had fallen into debt due to failed investments.

"That's enough for me. Thank you."

He Kui had guessed Sule would respond this way and wasn't too disappointed. After saying goodbye to her, life continued at a busy pace over the next few days.

Late at night, in his room, He Kui watched as his Haro floated up without using its legs. Following the programmed commands, its eye lights flickered as if it were blinking.

"Haro?"

"Can you understand me?"

"Haro."

"Move this stuff to the living room."

"Haro~"

The pink Haro, resembling a soccer ball, stretched out its arms from both sides and lifted the materials in front of it. However, just as it floated to the doorway, the shift in balance caused the magnetic levitation system to fail. The Haro was about to drop, but He Kui quickly caught it, only for the materials it was holding to crash to the floor.

Another failure.

The movement logic of objects in a magnetic levitation state changed as well. After all, the Haro didn't just move forward like a vehicle; it needed to adjust its center of gravity based on the weight of the objects it carried, leading to a significantly increased computational load. He would need to streamline the program further.

"Did it fall again?"

Shi He, who had just come out of her room, spotted He Kui standing at the door in thought, surrounded by the scattered materials.

"Sorry to disturb you!"

"It's no trouble at all. You should go take a shower; I'll help you clean up. You still have work tomorrow."

Shi He set down the report she had been holding and gently patted the Haro that He Kui was cradling in his arms.

"Haro~?"

"Such a good boy~"
