Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Forced Landing in the Desert

The transport aircraft broke apart in mid-air with a loud explosion.

It was a familiar scene, but this time, He Kui was piloting the more maneuverable Gat-X instead of his previous Zaku. Released from its restraints on the transport, He Kui activated the powerful thrusters, stabilizing mid-air. However, the three Moebius mobile suits continued circling him.

"They have three units against just the two of us, Shi He. We'll need to be coordinated to hold them off," He Kui remarked as Shi He engaged the beam claws mounted on the suit's waist, launching them swiftly.

Although Shi He lacked spatial awareness abilities, she didn't need to control the mobile suit here; her focus was on maneuvering the beam claws, a task manageable even with Earth's gravity impacting their trajectory. This gravity limited the claws to direct shots, but it effectively kept one of the Moebius suits from attacking He Kui's back.

As they struggled to maintain their ground, Andrew was also fighting at a disadvantage in the air. The small planes attached to his suit couldn't be detached; otherwise, the main unit would inevitably fall to the ground. While the pilot wouldn't be harmed too much from the descent, losing altitude would mean ceding the air advantage to the remaining Moebius suits, which would then likely focus on taking out the Gaetzh first.

Though capable of handling his opponents in mid-air, Andrew's gaze shifted toward He Kui, worried that the researcher might be overwhelmed.

But just then, He Kui demonstrated remarkable precision, firing a single shot that obliterated the cockpit of a Moebius unit. His precise targeting system, fine-tuned by Luna's enhancements, finally revealed its full potential. As long as the opponent was within range and lacked higher skill, He Kui could hit his mark.

Another Moebius exploded under his steady aim. However, the last one remained elusive, dodging skillfully.

"Judging by the control and intensity, it's probably an Enhanced Human," He Kui commented, observing the enemy's agile maneuvers with a tinge of frustration.

"Drop down, He Kui," Andrew's calm voice echoed in his cockpit as he noticed He Kui entangled with the final Moebius. At the same time, Aisha's beam pierced through another Moebius, downing it.

"Thanks; that one was starting to get the upper hand on me," Andrew said to Aisha with a grin.

"No problem!" Aisha replied with a cheerful wink.

The two gradually lowered their propulsion power, and as their thrusters decreased, their descent sped up. Soon, under the harassment of the Moebius suits, they managed to touch down in the South African desert.

Now on solid ground, the smaller planes detached from Andrew's suit, providing air cover as he and He Kui quickly gained the upper hand over the two remaining Moebius units. However, their advantage didn't last long, as several large parachutes appeared in the sky, followed by beams raining down.

Fortunately, either due to unfamiliarity with desert terrain or heat distortion, these new units—large humanoid MS suits—failed to land any precise hits.

"Earth Alliance's MS?" Shi He said, stunned as she watched the unfolding scene.

He Kui, however, was unfazed, continuing to pick off targets one by one.

Though these Dagger units were expected to debut in about a month, He Kui had accelerated the technology timeline. The fact that the Alliance had managed to deploy them only a month early was slower than he'd anticipated.

"Alliance's new MS suits, huh?"

"Not up to par with our new models, wouldn't you say, Director He?" Andrew said, now feeling a bit more relaxed with the immediate threat temporarily subdued.

"Please, call me He Kui, Commander," he replied. "Given the limited skills of Natural pilots and a tight development schedule, the Alliance's MS performance was bound to be subpar. Even so, it's impressive they've come this far, given their industrial capabilities."

"That's true."

With a chuckle, Andrew's suit moved with renewed vigor, skillfully taking down Daggers in the air. These elite pilots couldn't match ZAFT's MS units when it came to air maneuvering, leaving them vulnerable to ground attacks.

ZAFT had initially struggled with the same issues on Earth, and now the Alliance seemed doomed to repeat their mistakes. Soon, the Moebius units and the six Daggers were little more than smoke-filled wreckage.

As dusk fell, they found a secluded spot behind a golden sand dune to take cover.

He Kui checked his power levels, asking, "I've got about 50% battery left. What about you, Commander?"

"67%. Should be enough to reach the nearest settlement," Andrew replied, showcasing his impressive power management skills as a top-tier pilot.

With the N-Jammer in effect, they couldn't communicate directly with Victoria Base or use their positioning systems. Fortunately, the onboard computer had logged their route, so they could approximate their location.

"Still, it's likely to be filled with insurgents," Shi He said with concern.

As the war stretched on, a neutral zone emerged between the African Community and the South African Union. While ZAFT had captured Victoria, they couldn't fully control the various underground factions scattered throughout the neutral zone. With limited manpower, holding territory proved easier than maintaining it.

Particularly with the N-Jammer's impact on the locals, ZAFT wasn't exactly popular, and few Naturals in enemy territory were willing to help them.

"The nearest town is over a hundred kilometers away, and it has no radar. We only have a small outpost there," Aisha added.

A moment of silence fell over the group. Traveling to the town in their MS units would be conspicuous, but they might not make it to Victoria without resupplying.

"My Owl drone detected what looks like a large settlement…" He Kui said, eyeing an oversized tent visible on his wrist monitor with uncertainty.

"A settlement? I thought there weren't any around here," Andrew replied, puzzled.

"Apparently, there is."

He Kui shared the image from his wrist monitor with Andrew, who unexpectedly let out a relieved laugh, his demeanor shifting from serious to amused. "It's a desert auction."

"A desert auction?" He Kui echoed.

"Yeah, it's a market where scavengers auction off parts from MS battles they find. Not everywhere on Earth has access to the Waste Traders."

"I see."

"Let's head there, He Kui. Waste Traders sometimes attend, so they should have maintenance and resupply facilities. These auctions usually have lots of mobile suits around, so fighting is strictly prohibited."

"Sounds good."

Trusting Andrew's knowledge of the region, He Kui agreed without hesitation.
