Chapter 63: Our Conquest Together (Part 2)
Only now did he remember everything.
"Tick-tock", "Tick-tock".
Blood dripped onto the fragmented mirror.
And Isaiah gazed at his fractured self within the blood, as if he understood something.
"Yes, helping me peer into the stars was never about the gods." He murmured softly, "The deities... are neither omniscient nor omnipotent. They cannot comprehend the Star Sea, but I can... only I can."
He bent down, picked up a fragment from the ground, and held it before his right eye.
In his right eye, the Star Sea, stagnant, appeared as dazzling and eternal as it had for decades, mesmerizing in its allure.
"I almost forgot." The corners of Isaiah's mouth lifted slightly, "You've always been by my side."
His pupils slightly contracted, the Star Sea stirring, as if responding to Isaiah.
"In that case, there's nothing to fear." Isaiah held the fragment tightly in his palm, pressing gradually until it pierced his hand. Blood gushed out, yet he seemed to feel no pain, "Let's just gaze at the stars once more."
"The Abyss Prison, it is merely another piece of the sky awaiting our conquest, isn't it?"
"Certainly." The voice responded deeply, "We shall conquer it together."
...
"Prison Director..." The Guardian hesitated to ask, "Were you just... laughing?"
The Prison Director, who had just reattached half of his body, lifted his head and gazed at the Guardian with abyssal eyes: "Was I laughing?"
"Yes, it seemed like you were laughing just then."
The Prison Director remained silent for a moment, then slowly shook his head: "I don't recall, my mind is in disarray now."
"The Netherworld's Envoy mentioned this is normal." The Guardian said, "There will be a period of chaos until you recover all your Soul Fragments."
"I see." The Prison Director remarked with a trace of irony, "I've nearly forgotten I'm still a dead man, how useless."
"Please don't say that." The Guardian replied, "Every decision you made tonight was correct; no one could have done better."
"Perhaps."
The Guardian gazed at the weary Prison Director, unable to quell a feeling of doubt.
Just a few hours ago, when threatening Isaiah, the Prison Director's spirits hadn't been this diminished, yet after everything was over, he seemed even weaker and more exhausted.
Could it be that the earlier appearance was the Prison Director holding on for strength, so as not to show weakness before Isaiah?
It must be so.
Only...
"Prison Director." The Guardian asked, "Why didn't you directly use Heavenly Sound Obedience on Isaiah? Do you still believe that Ulu is alive and must be confronted by Isaiah? Allowing Isaiah such freedom, wouldn't that risk him doing something drastic?"
Letting Isaiah deal with Ulu, what could this mean?
The Prison Director looked somewhat bewildered as he lifted his head, facing the Guardian, and after a moment he finally recollected that he had indeed made such a decision.
Why was it, though it was only a few hours ago, it felt as distant as a dream, requiring a thorough recollection to barely remember the details of that time.
"It is the most prudent method." The Prison Director said slowly, "I need to ensure absolute certainty; as for whether he will actually do something... as long as he can't break the Heavenly Sound Obedience, it has no real significance. And the Heavenly Sound Obedience cannot be broken, once the preset configuration is complete, there are no issues at all."
"Alright, I understand." The Guardian pledged, "I will arrange the Heavenly Sound Obedience accordingly."
The Prison Director nodded slightly.
He felt something was amiss.
The decisions were sound, and the reactions all around were unproblematic.
Yet he still felt something was not right, as if he missed something crucial, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't recall it.
Was it because the Soul Fragments hadn't fully returned?
The Prison Director could only conclude this was the reason, for even now, he couldn't remember the specific details of the attack that night; the memory wiped clean from his mind, leaving nothing but the image of a single eye amidst the void.
If he could recall, it wouldn't be so troublesome.
"I will revoke all surveillance on Isaiah as you instructed, and let him spread his wings." The Guardian said again, "Please rest well."
Saying this, the Guardian was about to leave.
Yet at this moment, a thought surged into the Prison Director's mind again, prompting him to instinctively call back the Guardian.
"Bring Diana here." The Prison Director said.
...
Abyss Prison.
Diana frowned deeply in her room, contemplating something.
The events of tonight were overwhelming, leaving her baffled.
On the surface, what happened tonight wasn't so complicated; Isaiah first attacked the Prison Director, then went to ambush Rocky, but got exposed before making a move. Simultaneously, due to misunderstanding the nature of the Prison Director's Netherworld Creation, he was forced to the extreme after the Prison Director 'revived'.
Though this process couldn't be said to be fully substantiated, all the detailed indications were correct.
But is the truth really so?
Why did Isaiah want to kill the Prison Director, and why attack Rocky?
Given his intelligence, he undoubtedly knew she was watching all along.
Therefore, wouldn't he realize that any action against Rocky would immediately lead to his punishment?
It wouldn't make sense.
Unless he pinpointed her location too, confident he could finish off Rocky and handle her at the same time... but this possibility was too slim, not to mention Diana now had the Gaze, but speaking solely of Diana's original Rule, the Contract, which Isaiah wasn't versed in, would he dare to act rashly under such circumstances?
What was he really trying to achieve? Was it all about the Corpse Blocks at any cost?
But if it wasn't Isaiah who made the move, then it could only be Hand Eye.
But is Hand Eye really capable of such feats, able to single-handedly slay the Prison Director without detection, and still remain unfound?
Though Hand Eye now possessed the dual Right Eye Rule, achieving such feats with both eyes together isn't entirely out of the question.
But if true, Hand Eye would be terrifyingly formidable.
Nevertheless, if Hand Eye indeed wielded such power, why go through such schemes? Even to the extent of handing over a piece of Corpse Block to Isaiah (as Isaiah claimed), this baffles Diana.
Of course, what puzzled Diana the most tonight was the Prison Director's final decision.
Demanding Isaiah hand over three Corpse Blocks within three days.
Or rather, asking Isaiah to kill the Hand Eye he kept mentioning within three days.
On the surface, this request seems faultless. Regardless of whether Isaiah's words are true or false, it doesn't matter to the Prison Director as long as he receives the final items; it's a decision that can be described as flawless.
Yet Diana felt something still didn't add up; this didn't seem like the Prison Director's style, as it effectively corners Isaiah.
If Isaiah indeed holds those three Corpse Blocks, it would merely be a matter of whether to surrender them.
But if Isaiah doesn't have them, the Prison Director pushing him to kill the Hand Eye... can he truly find Hand Eye?
So much time has passed, and no one has truly seen Hand Eye, not even confirmed if Hand Eye is truly that Ulu.
Should Isaiah fail to find Hand Eye, how could he gather the three Corpse Blocks?
He currently has only two; even if he gives up both, one will still be missing, and will he truly forsake the Right Eye?
If unwilling to abandon the Right Eye...
Suddenly, an alarming thought struck Diana's mind.
Middle finger, thumb, ring finger.
Also three parts.
