Chapter 59: Playing with Open Cards (Part 2)
"Trust ourselves, trust what our eyes have seen," Diana said solemnly, "If the doubts of Taoyuan Village cannot be proven, then we must search for another place where they can be proven."
"Are you talking about that finger?" Rocky immediately realized the key point.
"Yes," Diana said, "That finger is the most crucial existence. As long as it's proven to be real, then the Hand Eye's claims... no, everything about the Hand Eye can be overturned. His real identity, his shadow in Taoyuan Village... it's all fake. We are facing an opponent even more terrifying and mysterious than Isaiah, and more importantly, according to Isaiah, he's been watching us all along."
Rocky gasped.
"And if that finger is fake, it proves Isaiah is lying, still trying to evade the Heavenly Voice Obedience," Diana said, "And if he succeeds, then no one in this world will be able to stop him, and he can freely hunt us down."
Rocky took another sharp breath, hurting his lungs.
"So, if we make the wrong choice, no matter what, it's death?" Rocky asked.
"That depends on how far they want to go," Diana said calmly, "At least, if they want to deal with us, we are hard to resist. Of course, they might also give up since the gods are still here and your status is evident... but do you really dare to bet that they will back down?"
Who the hell dares to?
"Then what should we do?" Rocky asked.
"It's simple," Diana said, "That finger is key, prove its authenticity."
"Then how do we prove it?"
"Just as he said," Diana said, "Go find him and let him prove it to you."
Rocky instinctively wanted to nod, but halfway down, he suddenly realized something was wrong, then cursed: "After all that, you're still asking me to go to my death?! Why don't you go yourself?!"
"Because I'm still in the dark," Diana said calmly, "We are like grasshoppers tied on a rope, the risk of both being exposed is too great. I can guarantee your safety from the dark."
"How can you guarantee my safety?"
"As long as Isaiah knows I'm right beside you, he naturally wouldn't dare to act against you," Diana said, "In that case, his identity would be immediately exposed, and if I'm in the open, he doesn't need to worry about so much. Think about it, isn't that the case?"
Rocky thought for a moment and realized it indeed made sense.
But even if it does make sense, sending him to risk his life seems too much...
Diana saw Rocky's hesitation and said lightly, "Of course you can refuse, and then leave everything to fate."
"You don't need to threaten me like that," Rocky said fiercely, "If it really comes to that, I'll just return the Corpse Blocks to Rhein City, and what can he do to me then?"
"Assuming you can really make it back to Rhein."
Rocky: "..."
Damn it, it's really annoying.
Rocky said irritably, "Then what do you want me to do?"
"As I just said, follow Isaiah's suggestion, let him choose a position to prove himself. He has that eye, surely he knows where the surveillance blind spots are, then you just go there."
"By myself?"
"What do you think?"
"And you, you'll just watch from the side?" Rocky said, "He has that eye, can you monitor him without drawing his attention?"
"I can," Diana said calmly, "Don't forget, I now have the [Gaze] too."
Rocky then remembered that Diana also won the rule of the left eye from Ulu.
"Any more questions?" Diana asked.
"Yes," Rocky said, "How can I be sure of your identity?"
"Oh?" Diana raised Carter's eyebrows, "What do you mean by that?"
"What if you're not the ring finger, but someone Isaiah sent pretending to be?" Rocky said coldly, "That's possible, you set up a trap specifically for me, lured me in, and then took my part."
Diana was silent for a while, then smiled and said, "Indeed, I cannot deny the possibility, so how do you want me to prove it?"
"You don't need to prove yourself," Rocky said, "Before I go, I'll tell my subordinates my whereabouts. If I don't return, they will immediately notify the Prison Director to initiate the Heavenly Voice Obedience."
"Interesting, is that a threat?"
"If you are indeed someone Isaiah sent pretending to be," Rocky said deliberately, "You still have time to change your mind."
"Hmm, a very good precaution," Diana shrugged Carter's shoulders and praised, "If you can always be this alert, it would make things much easier for me... let's proceed with the plan, I'll have someone notify Isaiah, it's happening tonight."
"Tonight?" Rocky frowned.
"Of course, we don't have much time, do we?" Diana said, "The sooner we clear up who's our enemy—Isaiah or the more problematic Hand Eye—the more hassle we save. Don't forget, we four corpse companions are all gathered in one place now... So goodbye, Mr. Rocky."
With that, Rocky felt the heavy object pressing against his waist disappeared, and then a calloused hand flirtatiously pinched his waist.
"Don't turn around before I leave, please," Diana said with Carter's rough baritone laugh, "To avoid the awkwardness for everyone."
With that, the footsteps faded away, and only then did Rocky turn around to find that what was pressing against his waist was not a weapon, but a hardened piece of black bread.
"Damn it," Rocky cursed softly, and then immediately went to the door, asking the Chief Knight guarding outside his room, "Did anyone just leave my room?"
The Chief Knight was taken aback: "Anyone?"
"I'm asking you!" Rocky swore, "A guy who looks like a man on the surface but gives off a very feminine vibe!"
The Chief Knight looked puzzled, thought for a moment, and then cautiously asked, "Do you mean your accompanying priest? Should we..."
"Get lost! A bunch of useless ones!"
Rocky, feeling annoyed, turned back, leaving the Chief Knight and his subordinates who rushed over at the sound at a loss.
And all of this also fell under Bai Wei's gaze.
"Is it really this plan?" Bai Wei stroked his chin, "It is indeed an effective way to break the stalemate."
Obviously, Bai Wei's previous pressure on Isaiah had an effect, and Isaiah decided to expose him immediately.
After all, in Diana and Rocky's eyes, Bai Wei should still be abiding by the Taoyuan Village agreement and be far away, uninvolved in this matter.
Those not present naturally won't be suspected.
So now Isaiah decided to play openly, and he could only do so.
If he successfully proves himself, the situation would instantly reverse; at least Rocky and Diana would stand on his side.
But how could Bai Wei let him succeed in proving himself?
Since tonight is destined to stir up some noise, why not make it as big as possible?
And also take the opportunity to test the person Bai Wei most wants to test.
After thinking briefly, Bai Wei called Ina over and said directly that there's going to be a big event tonight, needing her cooperation.
Ina immediately became serious, but she did not ask what the big event was, only what she should do.
"Don't worry, you don't need to fight or kill anyone," Bai Wei said, "Just go to a designated place and help me recover a corpse."
Ina subconsciously asked, "Whose corpse?"
Bai Wei smiled and said, "Of course, mine."
