Chapter 489: The Warriors' Way of Greeting
The two of them smashed the rock slab beneath them and jumped into the vast underground space, landing with superhero-like poses, stirring up a cloud of dust.
Looking around, their expressions were not very pleasant.
"I didn't expect Red to have such filthy existences."
Uffie's expression was not looking good; the goblin nests she had demolished in her lifetime all looked a hundred times better than this place.
"I've never seen a place like this..."
Somewhere in the underground space piled with meatballs, Fanen was overwhelmed by the stench permeating the area, almost unable to open his eyes.
Following the underground tunnel discovered at the museum all the way here, the number of meatballs far exceeded that of the museum. It seemed likely that not only Savis City was supplying here.
On the way, he had heard Uffie mention that the disaster first struck Savis City, affecting several surrounding cities. The army fought desperately to block the spread, keeping it a certain distance from the capital. Most of these meatballs probably came from other cities.
Now looking at it, how was the disaster's spread status "blocked"? It had clearly spread nationwide, even the capital had fallen. Is there anywhere intact in all of Red?
Moreover, Uffie also mentioned that this parasite disaster was somehow related to some Evil God... Ainz III announced this, and people thought he had no reason to lie.
Suddenly confronted with so much information, even Fanen felt his mind was dazed.
But after cutting down a few parasites, he snapped back.
Whatever Evil God or parasite, as long as he could, he'd cut them all down!
Uffie commented that his thinking was "very suitable for immigrating to Warrior Country, surely the elders would love it."
"You're a local, do you know the way?"
Seeing the underground space as complicated as an ant nest, Uffie couldn't help asking.
"...I'm a countryman, I've never been to the capital."
Fanen shook his head, and just then, the parasites busy transporting various meatballs in the underground space noticed the two, suddenly switching from bustling porters to fierce combat stances, with more parasites emerging and staring at them dead on.
The huge underground space instantly became packed full!
"Cold sweat trickled down Fanen's forehead, he thought, shouldn't we sneak in more cautiously? Fighting so openly really takes a toll on the body."
"Your narration isn't funny right now!" Fanen helplessly glanced at Uffie, who was vocally highlighting his expression, breathed in sharply, and said, "But I really feel we shouldn't barge in so openly!"
Although on the way they had already wiped out countless parasites in the tunnel, they should have already drawn the enemy's attention.
"This is the warrior's way of greeting."
Uffie had a jovial expression on her face, "Otherwise, you want me to play detective, investigating all over the capital to slowly uncover the Black Hand behind the scenes?"
"Generally, isn't that how it's supposed to be?" Fanen gradually turned into the role of a comic relief.
"So it's not a general situation now."
Uffie swung her long spear towards the direction with the most parasites, whereupon a vast Qi Blade charged forth, tearing swarms of insects apart. It felt like her signal to start the battle, as both she and the parasites became violent simultaneously.
"My beloved soldiers are still waiting for me to save them!"
"Tsk!" Fanen watched Uffie charge into the enemy ranks, opening a killing spree, while thinking that he still preferred teaming up with someone a bit more prudent, as he took out his Saw Meat Blade to fight the approaching parasites.
It's unclear what status this underground space holds for the Insect King lurking in the capital, but causing such a commotion would surely draw attention most swiftly.
Throughout this period, he had been fighting, rapidly increasing his combat experience against non-human monsters, and Uffie would offer him very professional guidance, benefiting him greatly.
Yet, with two people against countless parasites, could they win?
In any case, Uffie assured him they would win.
What else could he do but choose to believe?
Though Uffie fights with a carefree, battle-loving demeanor, she had planned everything in her mind before the battle and could always control the situation. Up till now, there hadn't been a single slip-up.
The only flaw is, it seems she really enjoys watching Fanen earnestly make criticisms, so deliberately keeps her plan under wraps, playing coy.
Overall, during these two days of journeying, Fanen seemed like her tool for amusement.
"Once I get stronger, I'll counter-attack to make you feel what I felt." Fanen murmured softly during the fight.
"I heard that."
"You're so annoying!"
Responding with a giggle, Uffie speedily changed her expression to icy cold when facing the enemies again, the suffused killing intent making nearby foes' bodies stiffen involuntarily.
A glimmer flashed in her eyes, her vision presented a scene different from ordinary people, enemies of varying strengths appeared in different colors in her view. It's a rare combat skill she had learned during a past journey.
For now, the vast majority of parasites appeared in harmless grayish-white, a few elites in blue and purple, but only somewhere in this underground space glowed with a glaring red light.
Not sure what that is, but surely it's very important, plus the opponent didn't seem to notice Uffie had found it, continuing to deploy parasites to attack the two of them.
