Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?

Chapter 478: We Are All Struggling to Live

When the "crisis" hit the Dungeon, people in the outside world also faced a crisis.

When the "crisis" in the Dungeon was resolved, people in the outside world were still struggling to survive.

Faced with parasites further empowered by the stray power of the Evil God's consciousness avatar, the Hunters fought while retreating. Soon, their bodies were covered in red and green blood, not only of monsters but also their own.

Two unfortunate fellows even died, and even with the strength they gained from Sain Dungeon, without some luck, they still couldn't survive.

"Luckily the blood still attracts them!"

Fanen raised his weapon to block the slashing claws of the monsters and shouted loudly, "Use the remaining blood bags on your bodies to divert them!"

Ever since these passageways began construction, people carried small bags of their own blood to throw in case of an emergency, using the blood to lure away the monsters, like a weaker version of a pungent blood cocktail.

People quickly responded to his suggestion, tossing out bags of blood. As the blood splattered, many monsters were instantly attracted away.

Fanen took advantage of this rare moment to catch his breath, opened a map, and shouted, "Head southwest, the nearest safety zone is there in the Pearl District. We'll defend there!"

It's better to hold a position than to run aimlessly through the streets. That safety zone has a wall that can be used as a temporary barrier. By the time they reach there, they should have shaken off many monsters, greatly reducing the pressure.

Recently, they had already established some safety zones in two other districts, but parasites often destroyed them, requiring constant rebuilding.

However, just as they were about to run in the direction of the safety zone, suddenly from nowhere, a large number of parasites, still retaining their original form, blocked their path. Some people were caught and bitten by parasites before they could dodge.

"Crunch!"

Before the victim could even scream, Fanen rushed in at lightning speed with his transformed weapon, slashing through and swiftly pulling out the person bitten several times by the parasite. This action surpassed normal human capability.

"We can only go the other way now!"

He decisively changed direction, breaking through where parasite monsters were still few, heading deeper into the Pearl District.

Hoping the parasites in the Pearl District had dispersed significantly after days of intense Dungeon siege, best if they found a place to take a breather.

Now, about ten people were with him, all somewhat injured. No one knew the fate of other teams that went out today, only hoping they were unharmed.

"Don't block the way!"

Isha fired two shots, blasting the heads of parasites blocking the way. Her spear technique had become increasingly precise, and her eyes sharper, often spotting hidden weaknesses on enemies.

"Ha!"

Another Hunter wielding a Big Axe leapt up, using the momentum of his descent to split a monster in front of him from head to foot. In a swift turn, he transformed his weapon, quickly slicing down the monsters surrounding them, then stomped on the downed enemies to finish them off.

Fanen was in charge of breaking through at the front, piercing through lines formed by the parasites and finding the best direction. The others closely followed him, taking down any approaching enemies. After a long period of fighting, they coordinated seamlessly, so much so that others might believe they belonged to the same adventurer team.

Fanen occasionally glanced at the state of his companions, seeing their brave fighting, which made him smile; he loved this feeling.

As they delved deeper into the Pearl District, they encountered fewer and fewer parasites, nowhere near the density from before.

Having killed the last batch of parasites, they looked back at the path they had come, filled with corpses and blood-stained streets, easily recognizable. Fortunately, they were still alive.

"Using the Dungeon to clear parasites is indeed effective!"

People felt a long-lost excitement; the parasites within the Pearl District had already surged toward the Teleportation Gate of the Dungeon. Those unable to enter swarmed the boundary between the Pearl District and Fishing Port District, no wonder the enemies were most numerous there. In contrast, the city center was empty.

This was a great trend. If this continued, they could sit by the river watching enemy corpses float by.

Fanen stood on the rooftop of a building, overlooking this area. The sounds of people's celebrations relaxed his mood. The building beneath him was a large museum, reportedly built with donations from a wealthy merchant, documenting the history of Savis City within.

But as he turned to look back at the path they had come, he frowned, feeling something was amiss.

Why did they come here? Clearly, there was no safety zone.

Right, it was to avoid the parasites' blockade, which led them to break through the weak spots and eventually end up here, empty with no sign of a parasite.

It wasn't just paranoia, but this looked like... parasites deliberately guided them here?

"Boom——"

Just as this thought arose, the large museum beneath them began to tremble.

Fanen's eyelid twitched. Could it really be this coincidental, that things were unfolding as he suspected?

The roof beneath the people suddenly cracked. Although they had no time to avoid it, the height wouldn't kill them, allowing them to land steadily.

But the museum was pitch dark, so dark that you couldn't see your fingers in front of you; as they fell, a strong stench of blood rushed into their nostrils, violently assaulting everyone's brains.

"Where are you all?" Fanen's only visible light came from a few beams leaking through the rooftop gaps, and these poor beams were quickly disappearing as night fell.

Yet the faint light was enough to illuminate the museum's originally neat marble floor, now piled with one blood-red meatball after another?

Not only are they piled up there, but they're underfoot, around him, the entire museum is filled with these pure flesh-compressed meatballs.

They seemed like they had opened a sealed can and finally smelled the contents inside.

"What on earth is this!?"

Fanen was taken aback. He had never seen anything like this anywhere else, and despite feeling disgusted, he picked one up.

The surface of the meatball was slimy and stringy when lifted, with a heavy feel like a large lion's head meatball.

A shadow suddenly darted out from the meatball. Acting swiftly, he grabbed it; it turned out to be a relatively large parasite, with an appearance different from ordinary parasites, exuding an advanced crimson color.

Fanen suddenly had an intuition; if this bizarre-looking parasite burrowed into the body, it probably wouldn't die right away like the ones before but would probably put you through quite an ordeal.

Is it the stronger parasite inside every meatball?

Fanen crushed the parasite, but its remaining half still lived, darting back into its meatball and chomping away.

Almost in the blink of an eye, the parasite's size exploded, growing from finger-thin to a meter long, even its humanoid limbs were writhing and gradually taking shape, an ugly sight that made Fanen quickly draw his weapon.

The blade flashed, and the transforming parasite was slashed into two before it could complete its change, with no invincibility period during transformation, its fate was sealed.

"The skin was tougher than ever," he watched the wisps of corrosive smoke rise from his Saw Meat Blade, "even its body fluids have corrosive effects."

He had never seen such parasites; what changes have occurred during this time? Is this museum actually the breeding ground for the parasites?

The meatball released a peculiar odor, Fanen sniffed and suddenly swallowed before slapping himself.

This bizarre meatball contained some kind of nutritious energy that made him instinctively crave a bite!

Just what is this made of?

No time to ponder, several meatballs suddenly started moving, he quickly crushed them underfoot, feeling uneasy, calling out his companions' names while running toward areas with fewer meatballs.

No response from his companions, making the surroundings feel more peculiar; the truly startling thing that left Fanen rooted was a deep tunnel.

On one side of the museum, there appeared a tunnel on the ground with an unknown destination, numerous carts transformed from parasitized bodies loaded with meatballs entered the tunnel unaware of Fanen nearby.

Where are they taking these meatballs?

Pearl District is already on the edge of Savis City; beyond lies the wilderness outside the city, if this tunnel goes straight, following this direction...

Fanen paused his breath, following this direction would ultimately reach the Capital!

Red's Capital!

He seemed to have stumbled upon something quite astonishing.

The more inexplicable things emerged within the museum, the more it confirmed his previous guess; perhaps they were deliberately led here, and the guiding force bore no good intentions.

"Find everyone and leave quickly!"

In such a scenario, one must not panic; Fanen searched for traces of his companions, finally discovering a figure, crawling among numerous meatballs, body slightly trembling.

In this darkness, it was impossible to see who they were; Fanen moved closer, and they sensed his movement, slowly standing up.

Two meters, no, three meters tall.

That was completely a humanoid monster formed by numerous stacked parasites, similar to the maggot men wandering in the Deep Church.

As it stood, a considerable portion of the human body fell to the ground. Fanen looked closely, it was one of his earlier following companions!

Rage surged instantly, his gaze cold as he drew his weapon, and at that moment.

The monster's body trembled.

Accompanied by a "thud," several bloody meatballs freshly emerged.
