Chapter 32: Chapter 32 Another One!
Holding a bundle full of ingredients in his hand, Jack didn't know what to do with it for a moment.
In the end, the most eye-catching method he could think of was—
"Look over here, take a peek, delicious ingredients from the Dungeon! Absolutely unprecedented delicacies that you've never tasted before!"
That was street vending.
At this time, adventurers were "getting off work," and the ancient city on the surface of the Sain Dungeon was bustling with excitement. The streets were incredibly noisy, with more aggressive merchants than his calls for attention, and no one paid him any mind.
"No good..."
Jack dragged his bundle around, shuffling through the crowded streets, but he couldn't secure a good spot like the other vendors and ended up setting up his stall at a relatively quiet street corner.
If his cries didn't attract people, his goods couldn't sell. Jack's eyes flickered, and he came up with a good idea.
Thump, thump, thud—
Moments later, he set up a grill stand, piled it with plenty of charcoal, then placed several lobster fish, snake frogs, and other exotic ingredients on it. With some readily available seasonings, "Old Jack's Grill Stand" was freshly opened!
"Thank goodness I learned how to grill when I was young," Jack fanned himself, feeling fortunate for having learned a variety of life skills in his youth.
Late-night snacks should be beer with barbecue, which is true in any world. Plus, the Ancient City's current foot traffic was at its peak, so as long as his stall wasn't too trashy, there would be people checking it out—whether they bought anything was another matter.
"What should we eat tonight?" Some adventurers passed by.
"Whatever," "I'm okay with anything,"
"How about stewed meat?"
"Let's not, too greasy," "The stew broth makes me think of marshes... Please don't make me recall that."
"Didn't you all say 'whatever'? Then what do you want to eat?"
"Whatever," "I'm okay with anything,"
"Alright, alright..."
That adventurer was tormented by his companions until he didn't want to talk anymore. Suddenly, he sniffed the air and said subconsciously:
"It smells good, but I can't tell what it is,"
His companions also sniffed the air, echoing, "It smells like grilled meat, but, but I can't tell what kind of meat it is,"
Their serious expressions verified a classic joke:
When you fart, just ask "What's that smell?" and the others will greedily inhale the fart you released.
"It's over there, at that grill stand!"
Jack saw customers approaching and showed a professional smile, a skill honed from his young days as a part-time waiter, "What would you like to try?"
"Boss, what are you selling here—" The adventurous lad was about to speak when his gaze fell on the grill rack, and he suddenly lost his words.
"What the heck is this!" He exclaimed involuntarily, which also attracted the attention of passersby.
Jack looked at the exotic items on the grill rack, fell silent for a moment, then calmly introduced each item: "This is lobster fish, this is snake frog, these are bacon leaves, and this... uh, is the Golden Spear Octopus."
"What?" The lad understood every word but still couldn't comprehend.
When you're an adventurer, you always encounter all sorts of strange Monsters, but Monsters are also a product of natural Evolution, with appearances that follow certain patterns.
However, lobster fish, snake frogs, bacon leaves, and such didn't look like things that could naturally form!
If the lad lived on Earth, he might say, "Did these fish mutate from drinking too much radioactive wastewater or what?"
Too bad he isn't one, and after stifling his thoughts for a while, he managed to blurt out, "Can this even taste good?"
His companions looked at him in shock, thinking that it's not a matter of taste; these items seemed like the mad experiments of an alchemist gone berserk! Surely they can't be edible!
"Why don't you give one a try," Jack noticed the crowd around him was growing, so he raised his voice and said, "This is a special product of Sain Dungeon, you can't find it anywhere else!"
Special products of the Dungeon!?
So it's from Sain Dungeon, no wonder then.
Surprisingly, that's what everyone started thinking because ever since the anomaly in Sain Dungeon, the Monsters that came out of it had taken on forms unfamiliar to everyone. Even experts specialized in Monsters would be at a loss.
"It comes from Sain Dungeon and it's strange creatures" has become a common understanding among adventurers recently.
"Then, I'll have a piece of this," the first guy chose what looked like a rather normal slab of bacon leaf.
It was a chunk of yellowish-green thick leaf which looked like beef with high-fat content on the outside. Once grilled over charcoal, the dripping fat made it much more appealing than the likes of lobster fish.
"Here," Jack cut him a small piece to try, adding no extra seasoning, letting him taste the pure flavor.
The guy hesitated, then popped it in his mouth.
"So salty!" He exclaimed, but after chewing carefully, his eyes lit up, "What a unique texture, it's like eating quality beef, yet it includes the crispness of plants and a distinctive fibrous feeling. Grilled perfectly over charcoal, and the salt content, it's inherent to the meat, no, the leaf, right? It alleviates the greasiness and stimulates the taste buds..."
He excitedly gave a thumbs-up, "Full marks from me!"
Since when did you become so articulate!? His companions looked on in even greater shock.
"Give me a slice, no, three slices—wait, make that five!" The guy pointed to the grill, "That one, and that one, I want to try them all, boss, just calculate the cost!"
"No rush, no rush, if you order so much, what will others eat?" Jack chuckled and pointed behind him.
The guy then realized a crowd had gathered behind him, all waiting eagerly!
"Hey, kid, is it really that good?" A burly man swallowed his saliva. The guy knew him; he was "Strong" Tal from the Strategy Group, a Silver Rank adventurer!
In the past, encountering a Silver Rank higher-up would make the guy behave very respectfully, but this time in the face of delicious food, he stood his ground, saying, "I've already reserved five slices of bacon leaf, you go buy something else!"
"Hey, you shrimp," Tal glared at him and said to Jack, "Old man, cough, I mean, sir, please give me a lobster fish."
"Here you go," Jack dissected a grilled lobster fish, sprinkling it with just salt, and handed it to Tal.
The plump white fish gleamed with a delicate fragrance, not too oily, and looked rather shiny. Salt was sprinkled on top, making it look beautiful. Two pincers were split in half, drowned in melted cheese, and Jack thoughtfully provided a thimble-sized pot of butter for dipping.
Tal opened his mouth wide and gulped down the slippery fish, then picked up the tender white pincer meat, with melting cheese, dipped it in butter and "slurped" it all down.
Everyone observed his reaction, for he was a Silver Rank adventurer and they trusted his judgment.
"Hmm..." After swallowing the last bite, Tal pondered for a moment, then said, "I didn't taste anything, give me another one."
Although he scrunched his eyebrows intentionally, anyone with sharp eyes could see the cunning in his gaze.
And so, everyone gave up on their Patience!
"Give me a lobster fish!"
"I want the tentacle of a spear squid!"
"Don't listen to that picky fellow, sell me a whole spear squid!"
"Bacon leaf, I want the bacon leaf!"
"Buzz off, I reserved that!"
Jack's face bloomed with joy.
