Whispers of the Cosmos

Chapter 2: Deceit Encroaches

In the vastness of the cosmos, tucked away within a labyrinth hidden in the shape of a planet, a Veiled Assembly convened. This organization, known only to a few, had tendrils in countless universes. They were unseen puppet masters, orchestrating events from the shadows for eons. They were responsible for the fall of Dynasties, Clans that reigned supreme in their dominions for billions of years, as well as orchestrated the assignations of paramount beings who were renowned across the known cultivation world.

The cavernous chamber in which they met was filled with an eerie green glow, casting ghostly silhouettes on its ancient walls. At the center stood a colossal obsidian table, around which twelve figures sat, draped in dark robes that concealed their true appearances. Only their eyes were visible, each pair unique and chilling in its own way. The aura emitted from each individual would cause those of lower cultivation to simply turn in to ash from being in their presence.

A hushed conversation was already in progress.

"We cannot allow the birth of the chaos child to disrupt our plans. The Stormhaven clan already wields immense power; this could tip the scales irreversibly in their favor," hissed a figure known as Varnyx, whose serpentine eyes darted with a calculating gleam.

"Though children of chaos are extremely rare, there are still others from previous era's that are still active. Their child also won't be the last." He continued.

Beside him, the stoic Kaldra, known for her icy demeanor, replied, "The child's essence simply could also be a boon if harnessed. Imagine the power we could wield."

The third, Erol, with eyes that resembled swirling galaxies, chimed in, "If we're going to act, We must act swiftly. The longer we delay, the more entrenched the child becomes within the Stormhaven's defenses."

As the conversations continued, a consensus was reached. They would attempt to kidnap the chaos child, Aeros. Not to kill, but to harness his latent powers for their own gain. A terribly cruel method very similar to assimilating someone. Using a living being as though a magical treasure. This happened far too often than not.

Varnyx, with his vast network of spies and informants, had already gathered intel. "The child is heavily guarded. The Stormhavens have placed their best sentinels around him. A direct assault would be catastrophic."

Kaldra smirked, her blue-white eyes glinting. "We won't use force. The Stormhavens trust their own, do they not?"

The plan was devious in its simplicity. They had, over the years, managed to plant moles within the Stormhaven clan. With the structure of the cultivation world during the current era, it'd be hard pressed to find a clan who didn't have traders in their midst. One such mole, a trusted maid named Lysel, had been in their service for over 30,000 years, entrenching herself into daily task. Over such a long period of time, the trust she had built within the clan was immense.

Lysel would be tasked with releasing a celestial poison within Arias vicinity, ensuring she'd be in a deep slumber, unable to sense any disturbances. Poisons were broken into grades ranging from Mystic Veil Poison, Soul Sapping Dust, Eclipse Sapping Star Poison, and others. This was a legendary poison named "Evernights Embrace". A toxin that was extremely difficult to trace, even for a Temporal Flow powerhouse to register. Its key factor was Dream Inducement. Victims would experience vivid dreams or nightmares when under the influence of this poison. While asleep, they might be subjected to illusions or fabricated scenarios that would range from euphoric to terrifying, often leaving them mentally exhausted. The terrifying aspect of the poison was that only outside interference of an extreme power level could enable awakening. There were known cases where cultivators were induced into eternal slumber, Asleep for so long that their lifespans waned. Once this was completed, a doppelganger, skilled in mimicry, would replace one of the guards. This changeling, Zephyr, was adept at copying not just appearance but also the aura of anyone he replaced.

As the conversation at the round table continued, suddenly..

Whoosh

A gigantic eye opened which seemed an endless distance away. The eye seemed to be over a billion kilometers in size. It stared as if it were a blazing sun towards the labrynth disguised as a planet. The cold indifference seemed to completely freeze time.

All twelve figures stood, they clasped hands and deeply bowed.

"We greet the Night Emperor!" they all stated in unison.

As they greeted the large figure gazing upon the planet, space above seemed to vibrate at the mere mention of its name. The fabric of time and space on the planet seemed to be on the verge of splitting via unknown laws. Stars twinkled and died out.

The figure gazed upon the group gathered around the table and transmitted a single word.

"Patience"

Kaldra along with the others around the table trembled as sweat trickled down their foreheads.

The eye glanced upon them a bit longer with cold indifference before gradually closing bringing calm to the world.
