Chapter 540: Why?!
"Why on Earth didn't you accept the Branch Master's offer?!" she suddenly asked as she sprung up, remembering how indifferently Adam had rejected the offer.
"Such a position could have changed your life and not only would you instantly gain a lot of power and influence, but also a lot of connections and opportunities to develop. Even with your faction, you would have benefitted a lot to have accepted that position and the green amulet that came with it."
Adam smiled to himself and debated whether or not to answer her truthfully and reveal to her that he actually had a blue amulet.
"I think it's not too late. That Branch Master seems nice enough and would probably still be willing to put in a word for you. With your knowledge and capabilities..." she urged, but before she even finished, something suddenly appeared out of thin air.
It took her a moment to realise just what it was, but when she did, she couldn't help but yell, "What!"
How did he get his hands on such a thing?!
Before the Branch Master had explained the amulet rankings, Adam didn't really know what the amulet he had been given was capable of and didn't think much of it.
But now after seeing Su Lan's shocked expression, that was even more surprised than after all the other amazing things that had happened, he no longer doubted its use.
However, at the same time, he didn't plan on using it much unless he truly needed to and wasn't planning on becoming shackled to the Martial Arts Union.
And it made him wonder again, just who that old man was.
From the fact that he had been able to give a blue amulet, he must be the supreme master of the Martial Arts Union with the golden amulet, but he didn't seem that capable.
Although Adam was sure that old man was much more powerful than himself, he didn't give off the presence or had the temperament of a supreme leader.
But, it was almost impossible to judge one's power and capabilities based on their character and appearance, while Adam was even more relieved that no conflict sparked between them.
He wouldn't have stood a chance against him.
With his vivid recall, he couldn't help but compare the presences of Nathaniel and that old man, and he wasn't sure, but for some reason, he still felt as though Nathanial had an edge over him.
In terms of influence, manpower and wealth, there was no doubt that the supreme leader of the Martial Arts Union, if it truly was that old man, would be greater, but there was still something about Nathaniel that made Adam feel wary.
"I-Is that real?" she uttered.
"Of course it is. I am pretty amazing right?" Adam said, amused by her dumbfounded expression.
It took her a while to simmer down, but after she did, she once again had so many questions she wanted to ask him.
Adam had decided to show it to her since he had already shown her his full power and didn't have much else to hide, while he also trusted she wouldn't reveal anything he showed her.
Even if she did, it wasn't like he had done anything wrong or had anything to fear.
But he couldn't deny that it did feel good to have somebody to confide in and speak to, even if he still kept most of the details and his troubles to himself like he always did.
"Well, basically..." he went on to tell her most of his experience since he arrived in China, and she sat there listening attentively.
No matter how far-fetched his story sounded and how casually he depicted it to her, she believed every word and didn't put anything past Adam, who so far seemed to be capable of almost anything.
She had heard of the Black Dragon Gang since the small region they ruled over wasn't far from this one. With a brief idea of how capable they were, she was impressed by how easily Adam seemed to have been able to take over the group and hand over its control to someone else.
And it was so random and reckless to hand over control to a person he had just met, and to even use their name and face as he pleased, Adam truly was an unusual character that she just couldn't understand.
It felt as though the more she tried to understand him, the more confused, amazed and surprised she would be.
Continuing to chat between themselves, Su Lan hadn't gotten much out of Adam, or at least anything she felt was important or he wanted to hide from her, while she had ended up telling him almost everything.
She had no reason to hide anything from him, and if he truly had bad intentions, it would have been too late already.
After around half an hour, it seemed as though their conversation was nearing its natural end, and it was the first time that Adam had opened up and been so relaxed in quite a while. Meanwhile, it was the first time that Su Lan had ever spoken to someone so casually and opened up at all.
Speaking with Adam helped her to clear many of her doubts and all the lingering regret and guilt that may have clouded her judgement. She felt as though he was a gift from heaven and finally she could reach her full potential and pursue the sword to the full extent.
Su Lan even felt as if she was on the verge of enlightenment and as if every shackle that had been holding her back had been quickly cut by Adam.
Seeing the fire in her eyes and her eagerness to get back to cultivating and training after all the advice and help he had given her, Adam also wanted to end their conversation.
"So... Why don't we cultivate for a while, so we can digest our food and recover fully, then we can head to your place," he suggested.
"Sure."
And with that, they cultivated silently for around an hour, with Adam recovering his body slightly and from the fatigue and agony of overusing his Mind Ring and King Ring, while Su Lan's body had improved by leaps and bounds in that short amount of time.
