When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?

Chapter 7: Chapter 007: Do I Have to Take Off My Clothes?

The next morning, during a lull in her morning routine, a voice came from the kitchen. "Yaoyao, Uncle Pei called just now. He said his driver is going to pick him up from the airport later, and since it's on the way, he'll have the driver take you to school as well."

Jiang Shuyao paused in her toothbrushing and mumbled, "Let's not trouble Uncle Li. It's quite convenient to take the bus to school, and I dilly-dally a lot. It wouldn't be nice to make people wait."

Uncle Li was the Pei Family's driver, and he often used to pick Pei Yan and her up from school, so she knew him well and trusted him.

But what she worried about was...

"Yaoyao, the driver will be here in fifteen minutes. Finish up and come eat. It'll be just right to go downstairs." Zhu Yun turned off the range hood and came out with milk and fried eggs, obviously not having heard her daughter's words just now.

Being a doctor often meant irregular working hours. Her mother would return late at night and still get up early the next day to make breakfast for her. It was hard enough already.

Jiang Shuyao empathized with how hard it was for her mother and swallowed the words she had been about to say.

In fact, her family was quite well-off. Both her grandfather and maternal grandfather were in business. After they passed away, they left all their properties to their children.

Regrettably, her parents had no interest in managing them. One was engrossed in architectural design, and the other insisted on saving lives. The large family business finally had to be trusted to Uncle Pei to manage.

Jiang Shuyao often marveled at how deep a relationship it must be to have such trust.

She wondered if her grandfathers knew from the afterlife whether they should cry or laugh.

Jiang Shuyao was ready before seven o'clock and went downstairs. She headed to the meeting point agreed upon with the Pei Family driver, stepping out from the west gate of the community and patiently waited under a plane tree on the roadside.

About ten minutes later, a black sedan slowly stopped in front of her.

The window was half down, and the middle-aged man in the driver's seat turned and smiled at her. "Miss Shuyao, the chairman asked me to come pick you up."

Jiang Shuyao nodded politely at him, walked to the back seat, pulled the door open, and got in.

The young man inside was resting with closed eyes, his entire body slouched against the seat, legs widely spread out, almost taking up two-thirds of the back seat.

Having expected Pei Yan to be in the car, she was relatively composed.

After what happened yesterday, she was unsure whether to greet the little rascal or not, especially considering his unwillingness to pay any attention, and what if she were to receive a cold shoulder despite her warm approach.

In that case, better not.

That was just like Jiang Shuyao's nature—calm and quiet on the outside, but extremely decisive and resolute when facing issues.

Before long, the sedan began to move. The girl, resigned to the cramped corner, watched through the glass window as the plane trees slowly retreated, her heart calm as still water.

"Uncle Li, turn on the air conditioning."

An irritable voice broke the silence in the car. Jiang Shuyao turned her head to look, and the young man had opened his eyes.

In early October, the autumn air had long since lost its blistering heat, and after a morning rain, cool breezes were blowing. How could it possibly be hot?

The driver was somewhat troubled because, in such weather, one must consider the young lady's comfort when turning on the air conditioning.

Hesitation from the person in the front increased the young man's impatience, and he leaned over in a slouched position, lazily saying, "Am I supposed to take off my clothes?"

The young man had only a loose white shirt on—if taken off, he'd have nothing left.

Moreover, he was typically one to follow through on what he said.

Jiang Shuyao's eyelids twitched, and she quickly interjected, "It's alright, I don't mind the cold."

Her voice was soft and sweet, as if mixed with the purest honey.

Pei Yan's languid gaze shifted slightly, sweeping across her peaceful and obedient side profile. He silently watched for a while, then continued to close his eyes and rest.

The air conditioner hummed into life and the vehicle once again flowed smoothly. Jiang Shuyao hugged her backpack on her knees, hoping it might provide a bit of warmth.

A few minutes into the drive, darkness suddenly descended in front of her. Before she could react, a coat was draped over her head.

Jiang Shuyao swiftly removed the coat, her moist peachy eyes staring fixedly at someone without blinking.
