Chapter 723: Ninefold Refined Iron (Part 2)
The entire altar held only this bronze coffin, the aura so oppressive, could the corpse of the last Rushou be lying inside?
He walked toward the bronze coffin, but as soon as he reached the middle of the five pillars, an immense pressure enveloped him as if he were being watched. In the black mist, it seemed as though an eye was observing him.
The five pillars were plain and unadorned, with two of them cut off and lying on the ground. Yet, even so, it seemed extraordinarily eerie, as if an invisible barrier was blocking his path, preventing him from moving forward.
Xiang Beifei stopped, carefully feeling the pillars and using his Yin and Yang source energy to deduce this aura. Gradually, he felt something odd, although he couldn't pinpoint what was strange about it.
"Hey, do you think Rushou is lying inside?" Xiang Beifei turned his head and asked.
Daoist Weihuo had already quietly moved a distance to the right, still not fully trusting Xiang Beifei.
"It's said so," he replied in a deep voice.
"Said so? How much do you know about this place?" Xiang Beifei asked.
Daoist Weihuo remained silent, merely looking at the two fallen pillars. The bronze coffin was guarded by five pillars, but two were broken, and the broken parts were not lost but lay quietly there.
"No one knows what happened a hundred thousand years ago, otherwise why would it be up to us to come here?" Daoist Weihuo said.
"But you managed to descend here, didn't you?" Xiang Beifei said.
"That was the experience summarized after more than ten thousand sacrificed lives. It wasn't easy, but the experiences left by predecessors only went so far. Clearly, few have succeeded in trying to control that bronze coffin, which should mean controlling the entire Rushou City."
"Did you get any good treasures by coming here? Why did I get nothing on my way?" Xiang Beifei asked in confusion.
If only this place was key, and knowing the dangers, yet countless people still ventured in, they would be too foolish.
"You're late. The outer treasures and inheritances left by Rushou were already taken by others. After a hundred thousand years, everything that could be salvaged has been; only this bronze coffin is left now."
"Seems like you're right."
Xiang Beifei stroked his chin.
So this is what they call first come, first served?
Daoist Weihuo walked toward the two broken pillars.
"What are you doing?"
"The aura here is chaotic; the five pillars are likely the key to approaching the bronze coffin. Perhaps I can put them back together," Daoist Weihuo said.
"Are you sure? We may not be the first ones here, but do you think you're the first to think of this?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"If you have a better way, I'm all ears," Daoist Weihuo glanced at Xiang Beifei.
Xiang Beifei indeed had no other plan. He felt something was off yet had no reason to stop Daoist Weihuo, so he could only say, "Be careful."
Daoist Weihuo did not respond; with his experience in the Inquiry Dao Realm, he would not be careless.
He knew it was dangerous to do this; perhaps he was among the few who could reach here, but certainly not the first. Yet since he was here, he had to try.
Xiang Beifei walked around the five iron pillars, keeping an eye on Daoist Weihuo. At the slightest sign of trouble, he had to grab this guy and run.
Daoist Weihuo cautiously approached a broken iron pillar. The pillar was extremely hard, likely only destroyable by a master in the Ancestral Dao Realm, with a clean break and remnants of a mysterious force on it.
He did not grasp the iron pillar with his hand, instead using his spiritual power to form a large hand that reached out to lift the pillar.
Buzz!
His condensed large hand wrapped firmly around the broken iron pillar!
Yet, the pillar did not move an inch.
"So heavy?" Daoist Weihuo said, surprised.
"Can't lift it?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"Very heavy! I estimate that even at full strength, I might not be able to lift it," Daoist Weihuo said, with a frown.
"No wonder it's still lying here after all these years."
Xiang Beifei realized.
Even those in the Inquiry Dao Realm might not lift it, and those who could come near only had eternal lifetime power, making it impossible to lift.
The Rushou Tribe seemed to have ensured it.
Daoist Weihuo explored the broken iron pillar with his spiritual power and suddenly found something, saying, "There are some words here."
He scrutinized it for a moment, frowning, and said, "These should be ancient Rushou Tribe characters. Unfortunately, the ancient characters are lost, and almost no one in the Edge Corner Airspace understands Rushou civilization. I can't determine what these characters mean."
Xiang Beifei also saw the writing beneath the iron pillar. The characters looked extremely strange, not a script he knew, yet upon seeing them, he clearly knew their meaning in his mind, as naturally as water flowing.
"Nine Transformations Fine Iron," Xiang Beifei blurted out.
"You can read it?" Daoist Weihuo asked, surprised.
"A bit,"
In fact, Xiang Beifei knew a lot. Even if the Rushou Tribe were iron men forged from iron, their final cultivation form was human. Human-invented scripts, despite differences, could be understood through learning by analogy.
Below the broken iron pillar were several smaller characters, but they were apparently pressed against the ground and not visible, so he could only read a few characters.
"Nine Transformations Fine Iron, one zhang weighs 103,500 bins; non-Rushou bloodline cannot..."
The rest beneath was unreadable to Xiang Beifei.
This "bin" was a unit of measurement in Rushou civilization. Xiang Beifei couldn't directly convert it to jin, as Rushou civilization's weights were based on cultivation levels.
He could only deduce through "learning by analogy" that the Inquiry Dao Realm could lift about 5,000 bins, and the duration of eternity could only lift about 1,000 bins.
One zhang weighing over 100,000 bins meant the broken pillar weighed at least 200,000 bins, an extremely terrifying weight!
How could they lift it with their eternal cultivation strength?
"Non-Rushou bloodline cannot—cannot lift it?"
Daoist Weihuo looked at the broken pillar in surprise.
If so, where would they find Rushou descendants?
"Are there any races in the Edge Corner Airspace cultivating the Metal Dao?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"There are, but from what I know, most have not ascended their Dao; their Dao embryos are just branches of the Metal Dao, such as the Iron Dao Race, Copper Dao Race, far from the true Rushou cultivation Dao, lacking Rushou bloodline," Daoist Weihuo said.
Xiang Beifei considered his abilities. He had the power to control mass and might try lifting it.
After confirming there were no potential dangers, he slowly covered the broken iron pillar with the power of the Clan Constellation.
But before he could use the Clan Constellation's power to lighten its weight, he realized his actions seemed redundant, as he didn't need to lighten its weight. At least in his perception, the broken pillar had no real weight, as if it were as light as a feather.
He then gently lifted it.
Buzz!
The broken iron pillar was raised with ease by him.
"Huh?"
Xiang Beifei was momentarily stunned.
Daoist Weihuo was also taken aback, exclaiming, "You possess Rushou bloodline... Are you a Rushou descendant?"
"No," Xiang Beifei simply denied it. If he were a Rushou descendant, why would he have needed such trouble to enter? His control over metal was not due to Rushou bloodline but his mastery over the Metal Dao embryo.
"But you could lift it!" Daoist Weihuo said, surprised.
"Maybe because I'm handsome," Xiang Beifei said nonchalantly.
Daoist Weihuo: "..."
Xiang Beifei lifted the thick iron pillar, turned it over, and read all the characters on it:
— Nine Transformations Fine Iron, non-Rushou bloodline cannot control it. When the bin pillar returns, it shall be the time of Rushou's return!
