Chapter 703: The Surviving Human Race

The room was dimly lit, with the doors and windows tightly closed.

This place was an insignificant inn in Chi Mu City, where people came and went constantly. Many cultivators from various races came to the city for business and needed a place to stay overnight.

At this moment, there were three people in the inn's room, two men and one woman.

Among the three, one was an elderly man with graying hair, looking as if worn down by life, his short beard growing, sitting cross-legged on the bed with his eyes closed. His ears were pointed, characteristic of the Yi Tribe, a look that typically only cultivators who haven't reached the Immortal Realm have.

In the corner of the room, a resolute-looking man sat on a chair. He was large and robust, like a rock sitting there, giving a tremendous sense of security.

However, the scales on his forehead detracted from his appearance.

On the other chair on the opposite side, a girl in a blue dress was resting her chin in boredom, yawning. She was quite beautiful, with two lovely antlers on her head, appearing extremely adorable.

Yet, at this moment, she seemed bored, idly fiddling with those small antlers, and then suddenly, "snap," she accidentally broke one off.

"Oh no!"

She appeared slightly embarrassed.

The man opposite frowned and said, "Zhu Yue, fix your antlers properly. You can't be careless with these things."

"Sorry, Uncle Chu, I'll fix it right away."

The girl named Zhu Yue hurriedly put the antlers back onto her head, looking a bit clumsy, the antlers now unevenly placed.

"When we go out, don't dress so attractively. That way, you can avoid trouble. You must understand there are no shortage of villains in the Edge Corner Airspace who are wary of beautiful looks," the man continued.

"Okay."

The girl replied with a sheepish smile, then reached up to her smooth face, pulling and tugging randomly, elongating her eye corners and flattening her nose, turning her once smoothly beautiful face into something quite awkward.

"You..." The Chu-named man seemed a bit vexed as he said, "You make ugliness more noticeable. We need to disguise ourselves as ordinary people, ordinary! Understand? The kind who blend into the crowd without drawing attention. Not too beautiful, nor too ugly, otherwise you stand out."

"But I don't know what counts as ordinary," Zhu Yue muttered.

"You must study the art of disguise well before going out in the future. The Edge Corner Airspace's cities are all under Dao Palace's influence, not a place for joking around! Have you forgotten our identities?" The man instructed sternly.

"Yes, I'll study well," Zhu Yue said with her head down.

"Alright, Chu Jun, Zhu Yue is also out for the first time, don't be too harsh," said the elderly man sitting cross-legged on the bed with his eyes open.

"Elder Zhong, I'm not being too harsh. I have roamed and scouted information across Edge Corner Airspace cities for years. I'm well aware of Dao Palace's means of capturing and discovering our Human Race's identity. We've lost countless companions over the years, and these are lessons of blood and tears.

Dao Palace knows nearly all race characteristics in Edge Corner Airspace. Disguises like hers which are mismatched will immediately be noticed, and definitely invite catastrophe!"

The man named Chu Jun spoke earnestly, recalling companions who met their end at Dao Palace's hands, his fists unconsciously clenched.

Dao Palace issued a hunt order in Edge Corner Airspace, constantly pursuing the Human Race.

And they were the Humans lurking in the shadows, barely surviving!

The Human Race was not extinct in Edge Corner Airspace; they were forced to hide.

For years, the Human Race in Edge Corner Airspace lived like rats, afraid to draw attention, taking care to disguise their appearance when they ventured out, fearing detection by Dao Palace and inviting death.

Countless humans had already been brutally killed by Dao Palace after accidentally exposing their identities. Unless absolutely necessary, they wouldn't allow the younger generation to casually go out.

Elder Zhong said, "I understand your concern. Zhu Yue has always been kept at home, and this time she is let out to better understand the Edge Corner Airspace situation. Help her with what she doesn't understand."

"Alright."

Chu Jun said no more and walked toward Zhu Yue, skillfully adjusting her ugly face.

His technique was deft, quickly reshaping Zhu Yue's face into a plain, nondescript general face.

Touching her adjusted face, Zhu Yue cheerfully conjured a mirror using Spiritual Power from the void, admiring it.

"Don't casually use abilities outside the Deer Clan's traits! You are a Deer Clan now!" Chu Jun sternly reprimanded.

"Oh, okay."

Hesitant to argue, Zhu Yue withdrew the mirror shaped from Spiritual Power.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

At this moment, the door suddenly knocked rhythmically, prompting the three inside to become alert and stare toward the door.

"Who is it?" Elder Zhong asked in a deep voice.

"It's me," a low voice responded from outside.

"Where did you go?"

"Went to buy oil cakes."

"How many did you buy?"

"Four."

Elder Zhong gestured to Chu Jun, who nodded slightly, cautiously placing his hand on the door, causing a ripple of Spiritual Power, opening a seam in the formation at the doorway. He peeked through the seam before fully opening the door.

The middle-aged man outside immediately squeezed in, and Chu Jun checked the surroundings, ensuring no one noticed them before closing the door again, resealing the room's formation.
