Chapter 17: Against All Odds
Kaelara's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean? Why are you keeping us here?"
The man shrugged. "I don't know. But I do know that you're not going anywhere until our superiors say you can."
Lila's face set in a determined expression. "We're not going to just sit here and wait. We need to find a way out of here."
Zara nodded, and the three girls began to frantically search the room for any possible means of escape. They checked the windows, but they were locked and barred. They searched for any hidden doors or passages, but found nothing because they had been sealed off from them.
As they searched, Kaelara's mind was racing. She and the others knew they had to find a way out of there, and fast. But how?
Just as they were starting to lose hope, Lila suddenly stopped in her tracks. "Wait," she said, a look of excitement on her face. "I think I found something."
Kaelara and Zara rushed over to her, their hearts racing with anticipation.
Lila's eyes shone with excitement as she pointed to a small, almost imperceptible crack in the wall. "I think this might be a hidden panel," she whispered.
Kaelara's eyes widened as she examined the crack more closely. "You're right," she breathed. "I think I can open it."
Zara's eyes darted nervously to the men in black suits, who were still searching the room. "Hurry," she urged. "We don't have much time."
Kaelara nodded, her fingers probing the crack for a hidden catch. After a few moments, she found it, and the panel swung open, revealing a narrow passageway.
The three girls exchanged a triumphant glance. "Let's go," Kaelara whispered, leading the way into the passageway.
As they made their way through the narrow tunnel, the sounds of the men in black suits grew fainter. The girls moved as quickly and quietly as possible, their hearts pounding with excitement and fear.
Finally, they emerged into a dimly lit corridor, the walls lined with old portraits and cobweb-covered tapestries. Kaelara looked around, trying to get her bearings.
"I think we're in one of the old wings of the school," she whispered. "We need to find a way to get to Arden and Phelia."
Lila nodded, her eyes scanning the corridor. "I think I see a staircase up ahead. It might take us somewhere else."
The girls started moving up the stairs just for them to hit a dead-end; the walls were all closed up.
"No, no, no, nooooo" Kaelara exclaimed unable believe the mess they were in, it was already 2 a.m. and she hadn't even had the time to rest, frustrated, she punched the wall, which caused the section she punched to move inward, gears turned, and the closed up wall suddenly moved sideways.
The girls' eyes lit up as they quickly ran out and the wall closed back in behind them.
Back in their room the men noticed the girls were missing and knew something was amiss. One of the men brought out his phone.
"They've escaped; send the guards after them and ensure they are caught and taken to the Heads".
In the corridors Kaelara, Lila and Zara were hid behind giant pillars, watching as the guards ran, searching for them. Now they knew things had taken a drastic turn and they needed to move fast. As they turned a corner one of the guards caught sight of them.
"Stop right there!" he shouted chasing after them, the other guards noticed him running in their direction and followed.
"Mages' containment spell, hurry! They're getting away" one of the guards shouted
The guard's eyes lit up, as he stretched out his hands:
"Vinctus ambulans, non discedere"
"Pedes ligati, manibus captis"
"Intra mea, non effugies"
Translated to
"Bound walker, do not depart"
"Feet tied, hands captured"
"Within mine, you shall not escape"
All three girls were contained and a call was made to the men in their room who then informed the Heads. The girls were being taken to the meeting room, but had made up their minds not to say anything, no matter what.
Through a crack in the wall, a pair of blue eyes could be seen checking out the situation, with wide eyes, they turned, and ran back deep into the walls.
"Phelia, bad news, your roommates have been contained and are being taken to the Heads for interrogation" Arden said.
"What! No, this is my fault, I have to fix this" she said her eyes shining with determination.
"Do you have a plan?" Arden asked concerned.
"Just leave it to me Arden, I will take it from here, please don't get involved, I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me". Phelia said with a pleading tone. "It's time to end this".
Phelia's mind was racing as she tried to come up with a plan to rescue her friends. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to save them.
"Arden, I need you to show me the way out of here," she said, her eyes locked on his. "I have an idea,."
Arden nodded, though his expression was sceptical. "Be careful, Phelia. The Heads won't hesitate to hurt them for them giving false information and wasting their time."
Phelia nodded, a fierce determination burning within her. "I'll be fine. Just keep an eye on things here."
With that, Phelia followed Arden out of the passageway, her heart pounding with anticipation. She knew the risks were high, but she was ready to face them head-on.
As she made her way through the corridors, Phelia's senses were on high alert. She dodged guards using the information Arden had given her as students were still asleep, using her knowledge of the school's hidden passages to stay one step ahead. "Thanks Arden" she thought as she ran as fast as she could.
Finally, she reached the meeting room where her friends were being held. She was greeted by the receptionist Evellyn, who looked surprised as she introduced herself. The receptionist was shocked, as according to the information she had, Phelia was supposed to be dead. Nevertheless Evellyn informed the Heads, who granted Phelia entry into the conference room. Phelia's heart skipped a beat as she peeked through a crack in the door, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of Kaelara, Lila, and Zara.
What she saw made her blood run cold.
The girls were surrounded by the Heads, their eyes blazing with fury. Phelia knew she had to act fast – or risk losing them forever.
With a deep breath, Phelia steeled herself for what was to come. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was ready to fight for her them.
And with that, Phelia burst into the meeting room.
"Stop!" she shouted.
