Chapter 304: The Tournament Begins
The six Airbuses landed safely at the arena. Soon, all contestants and their companions disembarked and were led by staff to the spectator stands.
As the seats filled, a helicopter circled above the ring. From it, Eddie Brock—fully bonded with Venom—executed a showy midair spin before leaping straight down. He landed hard, then retracted the symbiote back into his body.
The ordinary guests gasped, astonished by the spectacle. Many whispered, wondering who he was.
On the stands, Tony raised a brow. So Eddie Brock, the guy who sold him a Dragon Ball, was not only Venom but also the host of the tournament. That was unexpected.
Standing at the center of the ring with a microphone, Eddie spoke:
"Welcome, contestants and spectators, to the Second Dragon Ball Tournament!"
"I am your host, Eddie Brock."
Darcy Lewis clutched Jane Foster's arm excitedly.
"Jane, that's Venom! New York's latest superhero! And he's hosting? That's insane."
The Wakandan royal family, by contrast, wore grim expressions. Even the host was a superhuman—this event's scale was beyond anything they'd anticipated.
Eddie continued, voice echoing across the arena:
"Let me introduce today's six contenders."
"First: Karl Mordo, Baron Mordo of Kamar-Taj!"
Above the ring, the holographic screen lit up, displaying Mordo's portrait.
"Karl Mordo—also known as Baron Mordo. A master of the mystic arts, trained at Kamar-Taj. Possesses vast magical power and years of combat experience."
"If you think magic is mere trickery, prepare to be humbled."
Spotlights swept across the stands, illuminating Mordo. He had come alone—no companions, no spectators. It was a mission given by the Ancient One herself.
All eyes turned to him.
Tony smirked.
"So magic is real after all. I thought it was just sleight of hand."
Pepper leaned close, whispering firmly:
"Tony, don't underestimate him. Unknown enemies are the most dangerous."
Xu Xialing whispered to her father:
"Magic users didn't appear in the last tournament. I have no idea what they're capable of."
Wenwu frowned slightly.
"They're not unlike witches or shamans. Before I met your mother, I encountered such people. Strong, but not insurmountable."
The Eternals barely spared Mordo a glance before losing interest. To them, ordinary sorcery posed little threat.
T'Challa, however, felt uneasy. "Magic"—a new, unfamiliar battlefield.
Darcy gawked.
"Wow. Magic-users are actually real?!"
Jane nodded, equally wide-eyed.
"Yes… I thought they were just fantasy stories."
Thor chuckled, intrigued.
"So Midgard still keeps a tradition of magic. Fascinating."
Meanwhile, the stands weren't just packed with companions. Senior members of the Assassin Alliance were present as well—vampires, werewolves, and even Ivan Vanko, who had come to study both Tony and the other superhumans.
Eddie finished Mordo's introduction and moved on.
The hologram shifted, now showing the face of T'Challa.
"T'Challa, Crown Prince of Wakanda. You may not know this country, but Wakanda once produced vibranium—the rare metal used to forge Captain America's indestructible shield."
"T'Challa himself is also a capable superhuman, known as the Black Panther."
Spotlights found him, clad in his panther suit, helmet under one arm. He allowed himself a proud smile as his family and guards sat at his side.
Both Tony and Ivan immediately zeroed in on the mention of vibranium.
Ivan, already frustrated by his inability to secure secondary adamantium from General Ross, had long eyed vibranium. Black market whispers claimed some still existed, but supplies were uncertain.
Now, seeing Wakanda's prince in person confirmed that vibranium might be closer than he thought.
Tony, too, noted the helmet, quietly wondering about its properties. He and Ivan discreetly checked their scanners: T'Challa's combat rating was barely in the twenties. Weak compared to heavyweights like themselves.
The vampires and werewolves, however, traded mocking smiles. Two Black contestants back-to-back—ironic, given their leader's notorious distaste for that race. How amusing that the Dragon Ball Tournament had allowed them in.
The spotlight dimmed. The screen shifted again. Eddie raised his mic, ready to announce the third contender.
