When Dragon Balls Descend Upon Marvel

Chapter 291: Eddie’s Choice

Assassin League Headquarters.

Smith Dole looked at Eddie Brock, who stood before his desk, and asked calmly:

"Eddie, what brings you here?"

Eddie reached into his pocket, pulled out a Dragon Ball, and set it down on the desk.

"Boss, I don't know if you're aware of this thing called a Dragon Ball?"

Smith raised an eyebrow. He hadn't told Eddie anything about them, yet here the man was, Dragon Ball in hand, seeking him out the very next day. That was… surprising.

"Dragon Balls were released by me," Smith said evenly. "And the tournament—that's my doing as well."

Eddie had half-expected it, but hearing it confirmed still made his pulse quicken. Seven Dragon Balls to grant any wish… and his boss was behind it.

"Boss," Eddie said carefully, "since they belong to you, and the tournament too, what do you think I should do with this one?"

Smith studied him for a moment. "What do you want to do?"

Eddie scratched his chin.

"Honestly, my life is good. Anne and I just got married, my career is steady, and with Venom I've already stepped into the world of superhumans. Neither of us think we stand a real chance of winning the tournament. So… I don't think I'll compete."

Smith was a little taken aback. Most who touched a Dragon Ball became obsessed with chasing them all, no matter the risk. But Eddie—he was content, and pragmatic enough to see his own limits.

"In that case," Smith said at last, "sell it. There's been a standing offer on the dark web—starting at thirty million dollars."

Eddie blinked. "Thirty million…?" he muttered. "That's enough for a lifetime."

Smith nodded with a faint smile. "As long as you don't throw it away on vices, it's more than enough to live well. Capsule pays you generously too. You and Anne will be comfortable."

He waved a hand. "Handle it yourself. With Venom, you're more than capable of managing a safe deal."

Eddie nodded. He didn't ask his boss to do it for him; he knew how it would look, the host of the tournament peddling the prize. Instead, he thanked Smith profusely and left, eager to share the news with Anne.

Smith chuckled as the man left.

"Lucky bastard. If he'd tried to compete, he'd have been smashed flat."

Now only the final Dragon Ball remained. Once it surfaced, invitations would go out—and the second Dragon Ball Tournament would begin.

That evening.

Anne returned to their rented villa in New York. Despite both of them working for Capsule Group now, it was still too soon to afford their dream home in the city. A nice rental was enough for the moment.

"I'm home!" she called, kicking off her shoes.

Eddie rushed out, scooping her up and spinning her around.

"Anne, I've got a surprise for you!"

She laughed, kissed him deeply, and then asked, breathless, "What, another promotion? You just got one."

"No, not a promotion," Eddie grinned, leading her to the couch. On the coffee table sat a small box and his laptop. "Something better."

Anne sat, curious. Eddie opened the laptop and pointed.

"Look at this listing."

She leaned forward. An offer on the dark web: $30,000,000 for an authentic Dragon Ball. Negotiable. Photos included.

Her eyes widened. "Eddie… you don't mean…?"

Eddie opened the box. Inside, the six-star Dragon Ball gleamed.

Anne gasped. "Oh my God… it's real?"

He explained everything—what Dragon Balls were, what Smith had told him, and the suggestion to sell it.

Anne listened carefully, then smiled with growing excitement. "If the boss himself says it, then it's real. And with you being… Venom, I'm not worried about a safe trade."

She set the laptop aside, pulled him close, and kissed him again.

An hour and a half later, the two lay tangled in bed, skin bare, Anne resting her head against Eddie's chest.

"Eddie," she whispered, "it feels like Lady Luck has never left our side. You got blacklisted, and we bounced back with Capsule. Drake fell, you became a superhuman, and now a Dragon Ball worth thirty million just lands in your lap."

She laughed softly. "I thought I couldn't ask for more. But now… the future looks even brighter."
