When Dragon Balls Descend Upon Marvel

Chapter 284: Awakening

Outside the temporary facility built by S.H.I.E.L.D.—

"All units, attention. The subject is about to awaken. Stand by and be ready."

Ward glanced at Coulson and smirked.

"Agent Coulson, I heard Captain America has always been your idol. Now that he's waking up, are you excited?"

Coulson smiled warmly.

"Captain America has always been my idol. I've even collected a lot of trading cards about him. Once he's adapted to this era, I'll ask him for an autograph."

"And you? Don't you admire him?"

Ward nodded.

"Who doesn't? I grew up reading his comics and watching the cartoons. I even went to the school trips to his memorial. But these days… most people admire the Inspector General more."

"After all, Captain America's been gone seventy years. And Smith Dole has been active, stronger, and far more influential. People look up to him."

Coulson sighed, recalling the files.

"You're right. His strength is beyond imagination. Thank God he's a man of character like Rogers. If he had turned villain… no one could stop him."

Ward shrugged.

"If that ever happened, it'd be a global catastrophe. But I doubt anything could make him turn."

Coulson thought of Fox, the woman tied closely to Smith, and muttered,

"Then we must make sure he never loses faith in this world."

Ward only nodded.

Inside the special chamber—

Steve Rogers stirred. His eyes opened slowly. A radio played in the corner, broadcasting a Dodgers vs. Phillies baseball game.

He sat up, scanning the unfamiliar room. His brow furrowed as he caught the broadcast.

Just then, a woman in a tailored suit entered, smiling politely.

"Good morning." She checked her watch. "Sorry… good afternoon."

Steve frowned.

"Where am I?"

"New York Hospital. Recovery ward," the agent replied.

Steve studied her, then pointed at the radio.

"This place… isn't what you say it is. That game… it's from May 1941. I was there."

The agent froze. A slip.

Steve stood, his imposing frame filling the room.

"I'll ask you again. Where am I?"

The woman pressed a concealed alarm while keeping her composure.

"Captain Rogers…"

"Who are you?!" Steve barked.

The door burst open—two armed troopers stormed in. Steve moved first. His fists sent them crashing through the false walls.

Breaking into a sprint, Steve tore out of the room… only to discover it was a massive soundstage, fake walls painted with backdrops.

"This way, Captain—wait!" the woman shouted, but Steve bolted.

"Level 13 alert!" she cried into her radio.

Steve crashed through another door—straight into a building interior. No time to think.

Suddenly, a woman appeared before him and swung a fist. Steve blocked—

"Boom!"

The impact hurled him against a wall.

The attacker was Jessica Jones, temporarily pulled in by Fury.

Steve shook off the blow, didn't counterattack, and ran again. He wasn't going to waste time fighting in enemy territory.

Jessica scowled. She wanted to test him, see the legendary soldier's true power.

"Don't run! Spar with me!" she yelled, leaping to cut him off.

But Steve ignored her, bursting through another door with a flying kick.

"Bang!"

The door ripped from its frame, and Steve staggered into the open streets.

He froze.

Skyscrapers, neon billboards, cars sleek beyond recognition—even floating vehicles.

This wasn't his world anymore. Everything had changed.
