What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 674: My Cells At Work

We managed to return to the forge station without incident and handed over what the Zwerger needed to finish with his crafting.

He told us that it would take a few days to finish everything so we just took that as an excuse for us to relax around and do nothing for the next few days.

Well… Aside from Mara and I since she was still busy with the research and she told me that she wanted some samples from me to test stuff out.

What that meant was sex… Like lots of sex…

And I'm pretty sure that she didn't actually need my sexual fluids as samples since she would collect them to put them in a container and by the next session it would be empty and there would be the smell of honey coming from her mouth.

Of course, I wasn't going to call her out on that since I was happy railing this sexy doctor of mine against the wall and on the examination chair whenever she wanted.

Well… That goes for everyone else on my crew of course.

That's why I was fully prepared for another session of me ploughing my doctor when she called me over to the medical room one day but when I got there, I found her hunched over her table looking at the screens in front of her with a serious face.

Well… That was enough to tell me that she didn't call me here for sexy times, especially since she didn't even notice me coming in.

I knocked on the doorframe and cleared my throat to get her attention.

"Ahem… Mara?"

She jerked a little in surprise before realising it was me, "Oh, Captain. My apologies, I did not hear you come in."

"You said you needed to see me?"

She nodded and gestured at the screen, "Yes, you might want to see this."

I went over to her and she gave up her seat for me, allowing me to sit in front of the screens.

But once I settled in the seat, she plopped herself down on my lap, sitting sideways so that she could wrap her arm around my shoulder while she clung onto me like this was the most natural thing to do.

I decided not to say anything and merely supported her by hugging her back to me.

"So… What am I looking at?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at the screen.

She pointed at the screens, "Those are the samples that I asked from you."

"Ok… Still doesn't really answer the question… What am I looking at?"

She moved her finger across her personal terminal to connect to the screens and a new screen appeared which she enlarged to bring in front of us.

"These are red blood cells from a normal human that has not been genetically modified. Look at what happens when I inject a bunch of cells from the creature into the same solution."

I watched as the screen showed what appeared to be red blood cells just laying on the screen right before something appeared at the edge and a bunch of greyish blobs was dropped right beside them.

The greyish blobs immediately swarmed towards the cells and it looked like they were devouring the red blood cells, each of them enveloping one of the cells with its body to eat them.

About a minute passed before all the red blood cells that had been on the screen had been completely 'eaten' up by the greyish blobs, leaving only the greyish blobs remaining.

"Ok… So you're going to have to explain it to me because I don't understand," I told her.

She gestured at the screen, "I believe Captain saw those things consume the red blood cells, yes? Now watch this."

She changed the screen and this time I instead of just red blood cells, I spotted white blood cells present in between them as well.

When the greyish blobs were introduced into the picture, it tried to do the same thing again where it enveloped the red blood cells closest to it.

But the white blood cells immediately started attacking it as well, wrapping around the greyish blobs before they were destroyed by the white blood cells.

"Ok… This looks like the blobs were treated like bacteria or something… You said those were cells from the creature?"

She nodded, "This shows that they aren't naturally compatible with each other and both sides cannot coexist in the same environment. Now take a look at this."

She flicked her finger and the screen changed to show another screen of red blood cells without the white blood cells.

The greyish blobs were then dropped in again and they immediately went towards the red blood cells, enveloping them like the earlier ones.

It doesn't seem like there was anything different as they quickly ate up half of the red blood cells and I was just about to say so when the process suddenly stopped.

Then, as if there was some trick of the light, the centre of those greyish blobs started to turn red and even the entire blob started to morph.

The shape slowly changed until it became a red blood cell and like a wave, all the greyish blobs changed completely.

"Did… My blood just… Eat them from the inside?" I asked, feeling a little horrified.

"I suppose a more accurate term would be your blood cells predating on them. The hunter becomes the hunted in this case."

"Ok… So what? My red blood cells also function the same way as white blood cells for some reason?"

She shook her head, "It's more than that. Take a look at this."

Two screens popped up and both of them had coloured bars on each of them which I had no idea what they represented.

I raised an eyebrow, "What am I looking at?"

Mara shifted on my lap to a more comfortable position before pointing at the screen on the left, "This is the genetic makeup of your blood cells before they predated the creature's cells."

Ok… I have no idea what any of those coloured bars mean but I understood what she was trying to say.

"I'm assuming the one on the right is after they ate those cells?"

She nodded, "This is the most interesting part. It seems like your blood has taken the best parts of the creature's cells to evolve itself. And it's not just the ones that predated on the creature's cells but the code is passed to all the cells that are around to also evolve them to the same genetic code."

"And… What changed then?"

"I'm not too sure but the fact that there's a change in and of itself is something that is already unheard of."

Wait… I think I know what is happening.

"So… Err… You remember the thing I told you about perks that I got before I started playing the game?"

Mara turned to me, "I remember. Is this your 'superadaptability' at work?"

I shrugged, "That's what I think. Why else would this happen right?"

She turned back to the screen, "Hmm… This is interesting… This actually changes some things… I had thought that this operated on a macro level but it seems like it is also on a micro level as well. I will need to do more experiments on this."

I narrowed my eyes at her, "What are you planning?"

"I was operating under the assumption that I was trying to create a gene mod for a normal human but I guess I should change this to work specifically for you."

"You're not going to just inject me with random stuff right?"

I was expecting her to deny it immediately but she actually paused and looked at the screen without saying anything.

"No. Mara. Whatever you're thinking about, don't."

Mara smiled, "Oh don't worry, Captain. I won't do anything directly to you. I just think… This opens up a lot of possibilities for me to experiment on. And not just for this particular gene mod but also future gene mods. Oh…. The possibilities… To have something that can completely adapt to anything new… And I still have a perfect control group to reference from to see the exact changes… Do you know what that means, Captain?"

"That you'll probably be getting even more materials from me from now on?"

"Kukuku~ That too, but it's not like you don't enjoy our sessions. But what I mean is that you are literally the perfect specimen to experiment gene mods on! And you don't even need to be directly involved!"

I sucked in a breath, "Please don't sell me off to some shady gene research facility for me to become their lab rat…"

She turned to me with half lidded eyes, "Oh Captain, there's no way I am giving you up. If anything, you are my lab rat and no one else's~"

Ok, that does it.

I picked her up and dropped her on the table, the doctor letting out a surprised yelp when I did so.

She looked up at me just as I showed her a wry smile, "Your lab rat you say? Seems like my doctor has forgotten who is the captain of this ship and needs a reminder just who is above whom~"

She shuddered underneath me and I grabbed her chin before moving forward to kiss her, pinning her down on the table.

Well… Guess it turned into another sex session after all.

Though it's me thoroughly reminding Mara who's in charge here so it's worth it~

Anyway, I'll be disciplining this doctor here, be right back.
