What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 649: Everything's Working So Where's Everyone?

I quickly acclimated myself back to flying my Verlandi, my muscle memory clicking into place as I flew the ship between the asteroids in the direction of the station.

Amber followed along behind me, her ship also smoothly weaving in between the rocks easily.

I kept an eye out on the map in case any ship showed up to ambush us on the way there, but in the end, nothing happened and the station came into view as I flew over a particular asteroid.

The station was built in the crevice of the biggest asteroid, using it as an anchor while parts of it stretched out from the rock like some kind of antenna.

I wonder how it avoids getting hit by other asteroids around here but everything seemed like they were just floating around and not moving in any particular direction right now so I guess that doesn't matter.

I tried to contact the station once again but all of my hails ended up with no response.

That was a problem because without being able to contact them, we would also not be able to dock with the station since their security systems were still up and the hangar bay doors were shut tight.

So unless we were prepared to blow a hole in the door which would most likely compromise the structural integrity of the station, we'll most likely have to first go inside and unlock it.

That means we'll have to spacewalk there… And since there's no doubt there's also going to be some security preventing anyone unauthorised from opening the hangar doors, I'll probably have to be the one who will need to do it.

I let out a sigh, "Alright… I guess I'll just jump over and unlock the doors for us before we proceed."

Renata raised her hand enthusiastically, the eldritch maid having been standing behind me the entire time.

"I'll go with you, Daddy!"

"Well… I guess that's fine. Ries, can you pilot the ship and land it in the hangar bay after I get the doors open?"

She gasped, "M… Me?! A… Are you sure, Boss?!"

I raised an eyebrow at her, "Err… Yes? What's wrong?"

"You're… Really letting me pilot the Verlandi?! I… I get to fly it?!"

Oh right, I forgot that she really likes this ship a lot.

"This won't even be the first time you fly it right?" I reminded her.

"Yes but… You're letting me fly it again?! What… What if I scratch it?! Or… Or… What if I crash?!"

"Ries, relax. I trust that you will take good care of my ship."

"Nyaaaa!! Thank you, thank you, Boss!! I love you so much!!" She squealed, jumping up into my arms and cuddling her face against my chest.

So cute~

I let Ries take over me in the pilot's seat for her to bring us closer to the station. In the meantime, I left the cockpit for the airlock with Renata to prepare for the space walk.

As I was putting on the space suit, Renata tilted her head at me, "Should I just wrap myself around you, Daddy? It'll be easier to put me on instead of that clunky thing."

Well… I will admit that this space suit is indeed quite clunky to put on… But should I take that risk?

"How sure are you that I won't die wearing you?" I asked.

"Hmmm? Does Daddy mean wearing me out into space?"

"Yeah. Because this suit not only protects me from the vacuum of space, but it also provides me with air to breathe as well."

"Oh! I can do that, Daddy! Should we try?"

I looked at the cabinet that housed the spacesuits.

I lifted the space suit I was holding up towards her, "I'm assuming you'll need to eat one of these in order to do that?"

She tapped the side of her cheek, "Mmm… I don't think I do but it will definitely help I suppose? Should I try it, Daddy?"

"Wait… If it doesn't work… Doesn't that mean I'll die?"

She puffed up her cheeks, "Daddy isn't that weak to die to something like this!"

No, no, no… If I were to be launched into space without a space suit, I'll definitely die… Does she think I'm also some kind of eldritch being or something? Now I know I can't trust her on that front since she probably thinks I have the same biology as her or something.

"Umm… Maybe next time. I don't really want to stay here longer than we have to so if this doesn't work, it might cause a delay."

"Mmm… Okies Daddy~"

Well, at least she accepted my reasoning without any complaints.

I put on the rest of the space suit just as Ries's voice came from the ship's intercom, "Boss? I've stopped right outside the hangar. I see a maintenance hatch nearby so I think you can get in from there."

I locked the space suit's helmet into place, "Got it, Ries. I'll be heading out now."

"Be careful, Boss~"

I went over to the door and started the process of venting out the air inside this room before the door cycled open to the outside.

Renata was still in her usual maid uniform and obviously being in space did not bother her in the slightest.

Looking out through the door, I found the maintenance hatch easily enough since Ries literally brought the ship right beside it.

I turned to Renata and nodded which she responded with a nod of her own.

Using the doorway of the airlock as a springboard, I launched myself towards the station.

I then made some minor adjustments to my flight path using the space suit's air thrusters before I braced myself and absorbed the impact of my flight with my hands.

Before I bounced off from the door, I grabbed onto the handle at the side and killed my momentum, pulling me back towards it.

Turning around, I found Renata just casually floating her way towards me.

There was just something serene about watching a woman wearing nothing but a maid uniform floating through the darkness of space towards you.

Well… I've seen Amber do it before but not in a maid uniform so that doesn't count.

In fact, Amber had fire surrounding her so in her case, it wasn't serene but just really hot in more ways than one.

Anyway… What I was trying to say was that Renata really looked serene and tranquil… Until tendrils exploded out from her back which she shot towards the station to attach herself to it like the eldritch being she was.

Yeah… That serenity disappeared pretty quickly.

Although she did cling to my back when she reached me so I guess it was still a cute situation.

Anyway… I activated my Codex and connected to the door to start the hacking process to open the door.

Meanwhile, Renata seemed content to just cling to my back while I was doing that.

It took me less than a minute before the hacking process was complete and the door cycled open, allowing us to float inside.

The air vented into the room and I felt gravity take hold on me once again before I landed back on my feet.

Normally, I would just take off my space suit here but my ship would be coming in to land here anyway so I might as well just keep this on and take it off back on my ship once it lands. I did take off the helmet after confirming the air was breathable here of course.

We waited patiently for the other door to cycle open before we stepped out of the airlock, revealing that it led to the hangar bay itself.

We seemed to be a catwalk above it just like the one at the arms factory station, which meant that we had a clear view of the entire hangar from where we were standing.

Honestly, I was kind of expecting the place to be in a wreck or something but everything looks clean and well kept. There wasn't even any blood or signs of a shootout happening here.

Although… I guess I would have to mention that there were some things that seemed like they were left there like the owners dropped them in the midst of doing some stuff to go somewhere.

Like there were a few ships that were obviously going through some kind of maintenance with the wires and tools left around it, but the tools themselves were just dropped on the floor with the owners nowhere to be found.

Yet even with that, there were no signs that there was even a struggle here. It's like everyone in here just decided to up and leave.

But the hangar was still filled with ships and since almost all the free spaces were occupied, I don't think they had just boarded their ships and flown off either.

The hangar lights were still on as well so just where was everyone?

It's… Quiet… Really quiet…

The only sound that I could hear was the low hum from the metal around me and nothing else.

Well whatever… Let's just open the hangar doors and get everyone else here first…
